Big Papi Cleats 2m Previews!

I wish the devs had the foresight or the interest in making the game more moddable. Look at games like Half-Life and MVP Baseball that were modded thousands of times, and look at their communities today. Still very much alive. It goes without saying that modding makes the game 10x more interesting.

Unfortunately the only things that we can individualize for a player is their face. Uniforms, sleeves, gloves, etc must be chosen from a limited set of options, and until we can customize the code in-game (probably never), customizations like those won't be possible. Thankfully we've been able to edit as much as we have so far.

after looking at a bunch of game photos it looks like nike is the most popular. a lot of reebok and adidas too though.

so are the cleats a part of the uniform .iff or is it a seperate one? I couldn't find it anywhere

One thing not being taken into consideration is the fact that if the players or teams were to have individual cleat types, this would have an impact on performance. With the same cleats for everyone, only 1 cleat texture is having to be loaded into memory. With different textures per team, it would need 3 - team A, team B, and the umpires. If it were per player - well, you can work it out. 9 players per team, plus guys in the dugout and bench coaches, plus umpires.

Of course, if that were the case, then we would have people saying "this game runs like a dog" and complaining about the fact that individual cleats were being used for everyone.

From a development standpoint, considering the amount of visual detail in the game already, it's a good move. Saying the devs lack foresight or interest in making the game more moddable is unfair.

Yeah, its something I bet VC will try and implement next year. I have a feeling that the "suits" had a hand in pushing the game out.

This might be a workaround to implement more cleats.

If it ever gets discovered how to make uniform pants really long so that in a way you can warp the bottom of the pants into shoes. Then you can disguise it as cleats. Yea. Go ahead and laugh. I know it's a one shot in a million.

I think it will be possible to have multiple cleats im playing with it right now, itll take me some time but im pretty sure we will be able to do multiple cleat styles.

Actually, they could have made the bench players wear a generic team shoe (as well as the manager) and only have the specific player shoes loaded for the 9 fielders, 1 batter, 3 baserunners and 1 on-deck batter. That's the Generic plus 14 pairs of shoes.

NBA 2k9 loads 10 pairs of shoes at a single time.

Indeed, but that goes back to what I was saying about users complaining either way. From a management point of view, they'd rather have generics on all the players and not have to risk the game being unplayable on some systems than add on the extras and run the risk of poor performance on lots of systems, leading to a loss in sales and user satisfaction.

Software is never perfect. The best piece of software in human existence could be made and some user would say it sucked because it didn't automatically close when the user was finished using it.

The cleat system works like this.

There is one cleat model and a generic Texture for it. This texture in game shows up as strait black. Over the top of that can be places a series of color maps. These color maps look extremely weird, kinda like photo negatives mixed with an oil spill. These interact as a sort of filter with the black-looking texture to produce different color models of the same cleat. Then yet another texture can be toggled on and off and that is the one for stripes. When a game loads it loads all the color combos and stripes for every player that Scene. This system was terribly implemented but i think it was designed to allow for player on the same team to be able to have different color schemed Cleats.

The way to get multiple cleats would be to get these color maps to be textures of their own. So each color could be a new cleat.
