About This File
Here is the 1972-84 Cincinnati Reds Home Uniform Set. In the screenshot, you see Joe Morgan. He and some others were involved in one of the most famous and lucrative trades in MLB history. The Reds sent Lee May, Tommy Helms, and Jimmy Stewart to the Astros for Joe Morgan, Jack Billingham, Cesar Geronimo, and Denis Menke. These 4 men would initiate the 2nd version of the "Big Red Machine"...the first being in 1970 which would plow its way to the Fall Classic only to be beaten in 5 games by the Baltimore Orioles. Morgan and Geronimo would be quite suitable for one of the new artificial turf stadiums with their speed. Along with Tolan, (and later Ken Griffey), were the likes of George Foster, Dan Driessen, and the Reds rising rookie star Dave Concepcion with the 1970 veterans of Pete Rose, Tony Perez, and Johnny Bench. Except for 1974, the Reds would constantly make the post season until the Dodgers would take over for 1977-78. The Reds' usual nemesis in the NLCS would most always be the Pirates except in 1973 (Mets) and 1976 (Phillies). They beat the Pirates in 1970 (3 straight), 1972 (3 out of 5), 1975 (3 straight), but would lose in 3 straight in 1979 due to some injuries and Rose going to the Phillies.
This uniform was worn from 1972 to 1984. In 1985-1987, the uniform itself would stay basically the same but the number font would change from the bold block to the Reds varsity that you would see in the 1990 World Series. I got all my info from Bill Henderson's program "Game Worn MLB Jersey Guide".
I want to thank again Stecropper and all those who got the modding up and moving on this site. I also want to thank the fella who made the catcher's gear, batting gloves and wristbands Spungo (?).
