This game continues to satisfy

I need to make my thanks public for how well this game plays and its great fun factor - especially with the edition of the mods.

I have many nail-biting games lately; not enough to lose sleep over, but close. one was a true heartbreaker with AJ Burnett pitching a complete game, and giving up three hits (one being a solo homer). That was a tough 1-0 loss for the marlins. a rough time in the locker room after that one :D .

In such a chaotic world, its nice to have a good game of baseball to play. That's for sure.

Kudos to EA, and to modders everywhere!

I agree. This is one great game. I've played for years (old guy), RBI, Triple Play, High Heat and others I can't even remember. I was always looking for the perfect baseball game. To me this game comes closest. High Heat was good too, but I felt alot of the games were scripted.

In this game I never know what is going to happen. Will I get shutout?, an 8-7 game? blown saves, unknown heroes from the minors coming through in the clutch, walks!, slumps, single A , Great ball physics, and all the mods! (Thanks guys) Great looking stadiums, updated portraits, the ability to add great baseball music to the soundtrack, sliders and tweaks for almost everything and other great stuff.

I play my dynasty almost every night after the kids go to bed. Once in awhile the extra innings cut into my sleep, but it's worth it. I agree, great job EA and the Modders. Thanks for all the fun!

other than my problems with my controller (damn analog keeps getting messed up, which I have to pause the game and recalibrate at least once a game) I have a lot of fun with this game

I (old too) agree with you both. :) After years of looking for that "perfect" game this one seems to satisfy the most.

What would us old guys do without the beauty of this game? :?

I guess with so much talk about us "Old Guys" I just have to chip in and "Tip My Hat" to EA on this one as well.

Starting my baseball dice/spinning disk/card game days back in the '50s ( I am 57 ) it has been a long time coming but I do feel we are as close as one should expect a great game of baseball to be.

My old time favorites like Strat-O-Matic & APBA in the '60s, Atari Baseball in the '70s, Commodore's Computer Baseball in the early '80s only made me dream of what could come!

Then real promise came in the '90s with Stormfront Stuido's Tony LaRussa Series especially with thier Oldtime Baseball version soon to be followed by High Heat along with several other very promising games. EA Sports, in my opinion, wasn't even in the race during those times even tho they were trying.

Last year the MVP 2004 version really gave me hope that what I had been dreaming of since the '50s was finally close at hand. This years MVP 2005 has me convinced that it is here. I really believe this will be my game of choice for several years to come.

So I do "Tip My Hat" to EA Sports but give a "Tremendously Loud" and sincere Standing Ovation to all the Modders here at MVPMods that bring so many things of such beauty to my Desktop!!!

I have never looked forward to Retirement as much as I have these past few months & I am so Thankful to so many of YOU!!!

I am also 50 something (52) and I am really enjoying MVP05 w/mods. I have never played a console game and hope the gaming community will keep supporting the PC generation. MVP05 may well be the best baseball game along with Earl Weaver on the Amiga that I have played. For me the one weak area of MVP would be the stats. One other thing I liked about Earl Weaver was you could create a player with a phonetic spelling and have the stadium announce his name.

Hey BudHawk,

Glad to hear you are enjoying this game as well. I think we have a number of us over 50 guys here at MVPMods. Even a few more in their 40s and a good number more in their 30s. So, I would have to say that we are a very Seasoned Group of Computer Baseball enthusiast!

I agree on the Stats part being a bit light. I am hoping that fellow working on his .SAV reporting mod will soon be done and that will help a great deal at least for Dynasty type Stat reporting. Since I mod the schedules to play only a single 5 or 7 game Series between two teams in Dyansty so Stats are kept that mod should help me as well.

I have never picked up a Joystick either and that applies also to the PC. I do watch my sons play and it certainly seems like a real kick but I just have never had the desire to learn.

stecropper,

Yes, MVPMODS is a great site and it is good know we have number of seasoned baseball junkies. I also played alot of Tony LaRussa Series/Oldtime Baseball version and then the HHeat series. Nothing like a good game of computer baseball.

My son also plays alot of console sport games, but he cannot believe how much e better MVP with mods look on the computer.

At 39, I still consider myself as one of the "old guys" in comparison with the rest of the site. I agree with you both, the stats are a little bit light. A mouse supported/HTML program would have been nice too, like in the HH series.

Geez. I feel like a PUP now. :)

I agree, I'm 35 and loving this game, but the spreadsheet style stats that HH02 had would have been too good to be true.

i hear that spittoon, i loved HH02 so much just b/c of the spreadsheet box scores and that fact that you could save them in .html....it was awesome, i bought HH the next year and it was totally different, better graphics of course, but the statistical part of it was terrible, very disappointing.

You must be talking about the 2004 version. Better graphics, terrible menu navigation. No mouse support.

What a waste.

Yes, HH2K4 was a major let down for me.

HH2K2 was the best IMO, however you simply can't go back. The other advances in models, AI and physics (and other 'bells and whistles') make MVP look so much better.

My Great Grandmother turned 100 last October :D

Five generations took part in the party, cool.

HH 2001 was my favorite. :) Can you imagine an ESPN "web style" page (for MVP2005) that could produce html stats for viewing AND printing.

Now THAT would be cool :o

So true.

It's funny how games seem to make advances, then go backwards at times. I suppose that is bound to happen when new companies keep coming in, no single company is able to build on a solid foundation for a number of years....either that or they sell out to the console market like HH2K4 did :(

Hopefully RichK's .sav reader will help in this regard.

Does anyone remember the basesloaded series? LOF as well. I'm 51 (today), and go way back to the begining too, always hoping (and believing) it was just a matter of time for a game like this. You can have some awesome games for sure. I do agree that as much fun as I had with all the HHs, sometimes it did seem scripted or somewhat predictable.

Without my brother (Trues), as my tweaking mentor, and all the other moders around, this game certainly would not be nearly as good as it is IMO.

While playing the 2004 version of HH, half the time I didn't know whether to hit the B button (during menus) or call for pizza.

Hehe.
