ChuckkieB
I'm convinced that performance is affected by the different batting stances. I've created several different players using MVP Edit and have been tinkering with their batting stances and noticed that performance is clearly different depending on the stance, even with all of the other hiting attributes being equal. It actually seems to me that the created player will take on at least some of the characteristics of the player who's stance is being used. For example, player X with Fernando Vina's stance will spray the ball around and hit a lot of groundballs and a few liners, but not too many deep fly balls. Now, the same player X using Arod's stance wil not hit as many ground balls and hit much deeper fly balls for extra base hits. Using Chipper Jones' stance will produce more balls being hit down the line (both lefty and righty). I could go on and on. I've conducted these tests over the course of 20 games or so, using the same dynasty schedule for the same team, which takes the randomness out of the equation. Is this actually the case or am I just hallucinating and need to start doing other things with my free time? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. MetsDrummer
I think it's just psychological.
WayoftheBraves
I've been thinking the exact same thing as well and I'm about 60% convinced batting stances do change how a batter hits. For some, I've found it's harder to hit down the lines rather than the gaps, some stances, despite their distance from the batter's box, will hit pitches off the plate better than others, etc.
jonnyd
well its kinda like in real life. if you have a stance like jeter or julio franco, it takes longer for you to get the bat around so more of your hits are opposite field. but if u hit like beltran or bonds or sheffield, you'll pull the ball more. it doesn't really change performance, it just changes when u make contact with the ball i think. SwinginSoriano
if it exists, it's unintentional. But don't all the swings turn into a generic stance for just one second anyway? :|
mvpmodder07
if you have a stance like jeter or julio franco, it takes longer for you to get the bat around so more of your hits are opposite field. or its because he gets his hands inside the ball and is a good hitter...think Tony G. You are supposed to hit it oppo
Gudraves
I'm a firm believer in this, Ryan Riley has a stupid looking crouching stance that I could never get any hits with so before dumping him like trash I randomly changed his stance and he is getting alot more hits. I still hit like crap with him for the most part but in simmed games he hits decently.
gcurrier2004
I seem to always pull the ball with Carl Crawford, I also hit alot of homeruns with him for some reason, but have trouble with other leftys.
AcousticNut
I know that with me there is a distinct difference in how I hit with different batters. With 'upright' batters I tend to hit much better and for better power than I do with 'crouched' batters. At least in my case, it's primarily becuase of the way you see the ball with different batters. Crouched batters tend to obscure part of the ball-path, thereby leading to later swings and more spray hitting. Straight upright batters give you a better view of the ball coming in which in turn allows you to time your swing better and hit for more power. BoSoxRule
I'm not sure if it is built in to the game, but I know I do better when I feel more comfortable with the stance.
dansaint
my only problem is with that bent stance that looks very goofy in my opinon as I haven't seen too many players with that an exaggerated bend in their stance.
