Compress or Leave UNcompressed

i just imported and compressed adam LaRoche's cyber face and after i click rebuild this is what i get on the bottom.

Finished - successfully compressed 3 of 3 files

critical: Can't delete working file C:Program FilesEA SPORTSMVP Baseball 2005datamodels.big

why is their a deleting message involved in anything?

now i have another problem, whenever i try and edit a player no matter who it is, the game just crashes and goes straight back to the desktop.

something in you're roster. rebuilding it may have screwed it up possibly. did you make a backup of the models.big? if not you can get it off one of the game cd's. look for the compressed data folder just drag it to your desktop. and make a back up always.

yes i have a back up of the models.big but when i open up mvpedit adam laroche face still says 106 but it wont be like that in the backup file, should i just assign him a random face such as 904

well since you just made the change to the old models.big, it won't reflect in the backup. just reimport it compress and check in mvpedit NO REBUILD!! make sure you keep the backup you have now though. and if all goes well after the laroche thing this time, make that your new back up. as a practice anytime i add anything and it works ok i always make a new backup copy of the files. this way you don't have to go back to square one. good luck bro.

i import the files and compress them in BIGgui then i match up the faces using MVPEdit. Everything works out fine but then after a couple of games the game crashes and i open up BIGgui and some of the players faces have mysteriously UNcompressed themselves. Now i go back into MVPEdit and their faces can not be found. Anyone know what to do?

I had the same problem, what I did was get a facepack with a .bat file and for every face I want to install just change the numbers in the .bat file to their face number.

example:

gfxpak -p1 -real data/models.big cXXX.fsh cXXX.ord cXXX.orl

glad someone else has this problem I posted it awhile back and people acted like I was nuts. Just today i was using mvpedit. I didnt change anything I just wanted to look at something and it corrupted my models.big file. My game wouldnt even start up. Luckily I had a recent backup in MVP studio that i was able to paste over. The way i fixed mine is set your models.big to read only. (Right click on it goto properties, general, check the read only box and hit apply). You can not make any changes to it while you have it set this way, but it will not do funky things on you.

Edit: On second thought BigGui could of been the culprit too I did open the models.big file in it as well. Whichever program i used corrupted the file without me changing anything?

so i clicked the box that says packed in BIGgui so i can see which files are uncompressed, and these are all my files that show up as uncompressed, do i want them compressed or leave them uncompressed? Thanks a bunch.

i have NO IDEA what is going on, whenever i compress something and whenever i open BIGgui back up, their is about 10 more files that are magically UNcompressed. I give up, i even re-installed the whole game and its still acting up.

first rule 1 myk i tried to assist you with this last night. PLEASE do not continue to keep making seperate threads. keep using the same thread. SEE i merged tham all together for you. i won't again. you are new so i will accept the fact this time that you were unaware of the rule here. however, for anyone that reads this thread scroll to the top of the screen and you will see the forum rules. now you know.

ok is the game crashing myk? you have to realize that every file in the models.big does not necessarily need to be compressed. in fact sometimes compressing files that shouldn't be will result in crashes. is the game crashing?

first off, sorry about the multiple threads, i didnt want to try and confuse the two different problems i was having into one thread, it wont happen again. Ok what happens now is say for instance i will go into mvpedit and chien mieng wang will be face c585. His face shows up in the preview screen and everything. Then i will add someone elses face say for instance coco crisp. Then whenever i want to add someone else, i will open up BIGgui and all wangs files will be decompressed. Then if i add say jeremy reed, when i open it back up coco crisps files will all be decompressed. Its like their replacing one another. Then whenever i play a game, im not sure if its because i have stadium mods in but whenever i hit a ball into the outfield it crashes to desktop. Happens in Anaheim and KC so far. Maybe im not using MVPedit correct or something. When do i export/ not export the rosters and such and such. Thanks a Ton RAM. Do you use lots of mods? ie. Faces, Portraits, Stadiums? How does yours work, why dont you just email me your models.big and rosters hahahah Just kidding

LOL! first off no problem about the multi threads, i'm pretty easy going. heck when i started here i did the same things. just remember bandwidth=money, and even though this site is funded a lot on your donations, new threads and bumping increases bandwidth we need to saty within a certain boundary. we have good community here with members like you who contribute, all the staff here that do this vouluntarily and of course the add ons we have and make themselves which of course are free.

so yeah i use tons of mods, only ones i don't really use are game physics tweaks. i also don't use a TON of cyberfaces, i figure if they're not on my team who cares? because really in my dynasty i may only see them a few times anyway, and maybe not at all if their in the opposite league.

i use all the stadiums, all the unis including my minor league ones so i may have more installed than most. spitoons bats and ball (so awesome), cameras, overlays, rosters, ok you get my drift by now. i pretty much have it all installed.

ok so what you should do is take a face set let's take anyone that has to be installed by big gui, and mak a batch file for it. open up one of terminator koreas newer faces and just copy that batch file over to the face file folder you would noramally have to add with gui. now right click on the batch file and open w/notepad and change the numbers in there to match the numbers of the face you want to add. there will be 3 files xxx.fsh xxx.ord xxx.orl, close note pad, say yes to changes yada yada. now copy those over to the main mvp folder w/ a copy of grphxpak if you don't already have it in there. run the batch. make sure the face id is set in mvpedit. now do another, rememeber, w/ terminators batch installer after it's done it deletes all the files for you so you don't have to. so, you'll have to copy grfxpak back into it. then check the models.big in big gui and see what happens. i'm not sure if there is a limit to how many faces you can put into the game. but i would have to imagine it can only handle so many, i mean it can handle only so many uniforms, portraits etc. it may be the fact that you've reached the limit for cyber faces. but try the batch file method and let me know. just keep backing up the models.big and any other important files i posted a list in another thread in this section to show what i always back up. there should be no reason for you to reinastall the game over and over. you can even pull all of these files off the cd. they won't have mods in them but you shouldn't really have to reinstall as much as you have.

ok i did what you said, i extracted everything to the mvp directory and ran the batch file for the atlanta braves cyberfaces, it said everything loaded successfully but when i open up biggui and mvpedit none of the numbers are showing up. Example, gryboski is 636 but his numbers dont show up in BIGgui and face is not showing up in MVPEdit.

sorry i've been real busy bro ok wow the f files as you prbably know are the font files - jersey names. numbers etc. i look at mine i see many font files are uncompressed as well but i'm not crashing. ok so now i ask whose unis are installed?

second regarding grybowski you ran the batch it was succesful now did you actually change the face id to 636 and export it back into your datbase file in the game? even if it already said 636 erase it and type 636 again to see if that works. let me ask you again cause i'm losing it myk. whose roster is this and how are you imprting and exporting the roster files? i know you are getting really concerned about this models.big file but let's take a step back and troubleshoot it the real way. the simplest things first bro. so first whose rosters? how are you opening and exporting the roster to the game? also did you change the face id? who's unis? and finally did you get this latest face from the mvp05 dload section? like i said i mainly use cybers on my owner mode team and of course bondsy. answer these for me. real quick like.

ok heres whats going on. I was using ultimate roster 2.0 but i installed the not so ultimate roster 2.1 pack that was put up today. That seemed to do the trick, as now i am going into the edit and re-assigning the faces and they are all working now. Example, i click on kevin millar and change it to 408 and it appears and all is good now. I have NO uniforms installed i dont know how to use fuzz editor. So is it ok to leave all those f files uncompressed as i see all of yours are starting to do the same?

well i would just play it by ear bro, i mean is the game crashing on you? if not all is good then. thinking back on our converstions it was probably more of a roster issue that led to this in the first place. that led to you messing w/ the models file etc. etc. a common misperception IMO is that everything in there needs to be compressed, that's not always the case. but see a lot of times we add so many things we forget about the rosters, and that's where a lot of the problems may lie. make sense?

ok we gotta get you some unis man you can't be playing with that ea junk. first many of us use batch files for you guys to add unis in case you can't get the studio to work. you may not get ALL the extra unis but hey it's better than none. i always include a batch file in my minor league sets for the standard home and aways jerseys. umachines has a neat little batch file that you kust click and it installs them automatically for you via batch and you don'e even have to cipy it into your mvp folder. kc uses a batch file as well. so give these a go.

oh and ps- i resized your screenshot. nothing over 800 pixels wide is the new rule. it wreaks havoc on browsers.

and now what is wrong w/ the installer?

alright thanks a lot bro, you've been a huge help, its not crashing that much anymore on me. Of course as i say this it crashes haha. It crashed when i opened up and edited Victor Diaz so i went into mvpedit but his pic showed up but i said w/e i just gave him face 914, not important to me. I will try out these jerseys, everything is just working now i really dont want to mess with anything haha. So lemme try these jerseys now
