JP! haven't heard much from you in awhile, though i've seen you hovering around every once in awhile. how's everything going?

any plans on an update?

the reason i'm here though, is that with all these classic mods coming up, i was wondering if you had ever had any plans on making this into a conversion mod? or maybe even contacting the TC guys to see if they would like to make this into one?

i already know what some people will say...try TC. let's just assume i already know that and realize this project is different that TC. if you don't get it, try TC :)

anyhow, i would still love to see something like this turn into a conversion mod.

Hey! yes I wanna be in. I will release an Update, but I'd need help.

Thanks a lot.

Well I figured I should give an update...

Believe it or not I am still working on this beast, and I'm getting ready to concede that maybe this is too much for one guy. I'm almost ready to ask the Total Classics team for help on this and release this as a "Total Classics - All-Timers" mod.

The problem that I have been having lately has been the models.big file. I've got a lot of additional cyberfaces in the file now for the classic players. Most of the faces are from downloads I found here, some are from TC7. Don't worry, I'm keeping track of who did what so I can ask permission and give credit. The problem I've run into lately is that I think I'm done and have all the faces in there, when I discover that when I added more faces in one or two were somehow erased!!! I'm using the Installer Thingy to get faces in now rather than EAGraphics or BigGUI, but I still have the same problem.

JP I know that long ago you had wanted to go into this with me, and if that still goes I can use some help I think.

I'm not just filling the MLB club however. I am filling the MLB, AAA, AA and A clubs with players from that franchise. So far I've got these teams done:

Dodgers

Angels

Giants

Yankees

Red Sox

Cardinals

Cubs

Athletics

Astros

Braves

Orioles (Browns)

Working on: Tigers.

I've got a Lahman database that I'm using to enter in stats to figuring out power and contact ratings as well as using runs created to figure out what their best year was. If anyone would like to help out with this and would like access to it, let me know and I can get it to you (somehow).

I've been going online to find portraits to use and I have done pretty well I think. If you want to take a look at what I've done so far I'll see if I can get all my files together with an installer and get back to you.

So I guess I'm asking for help with this because it could be a great mod, it just needs to get done and be bug-free.

For that, I think I need some help.

yeah you should definitely ask the TC crew for help. this project should be inlcuded in it. they also have all the audio you can get your hands on.

i'll help with what i can, but i'm still busy just trying to do the audios and cyberfaces.

but it sounds to me that you somehow corrupted your models.big file. you're not gonna like this, but you may have to start over. i hope you saved every file that's supposed to go in it. it's hard to tell, but it could also be a particular file that is corrupting it too.

by the way, since you are going all the way done the franchise, are you including today's stars?

That is a lot of time and effort you have put forth into this project. I really admire that. Hope you can fix your problem with models.big. If you need any help with portraits, I would be more than happy to help. Also, if you would like, I can help you with the rosters as well. Are you using Kraw's program to calculate the MVP ratings from the season stats? If not, how are you doing it?

Well I did start over with the models.big file because a couple of weeks ago I was having some problems. It all started when I decided to include Dice-K in the All-Red Sox roster. That's when everything started going screwy. Whenever I tried to play with the Sox the game would freeze around the 2nd or 3rd inning and I would have to hit the reset button.

Well I thought I had that problem solved but then the same thing started happening with the Cardinals. So I thought "That's it, I'm starting over!!!" And I did.

I did a re-install to get a clean copy of models.big, made sure it was workable and got to work. I still had most if not all of the cyberface downloads so I could put them all back one at a time, in the order they were installed the first time. I even saved my work at seperate points so if anything went wrong I could go back and try again. I had to do that a few times before I realized the Installer Thingy was better than using the other methods.

Oh yeah, I am including today's stars in the roster. That way the stars of today can play alongside the stars of yesterday.

If any of the TC guys are looking at this I would love to make this part of TC.

I haven't used Kraw's program yet, but I'll give it a looksee.

what do you mean? kraw made the installer thingy. you should shoot the guys at TC a pm anyhow in case they aren't reading this thing. in fact, i'll shoot a message to a couple of them now to see if they could help you, or at least give you some advice on where to start.

you'll definitely wanna use their audios, and possibly their cyberfaces as i know i made several fixes to the cyberfaces before the last release. it's a possiblity that the faces you've downloaded weren't made correctly. as i know from personal use that some of the index files were never properly edited, which eventually leads to corruption of the models.big file. then again, it could've been a compression issue too. but if you're using kraw's installer, the compression isn't an issue.

OK now that I looked at my last post I see that I was thinking about another file than the installer thingy.

Are you using Kraw's program to calculate the MVP ratings from the season stats? If not, how are you doing it?

That's what I was thinking about, and where is that in downloads?

Well, I am not sure if Kraw made that public or not. I know that Totte uses the program for his Ultimate Rosters set to calculate the ratings for the players.

How are you calculating the ratings? Do you have a calculation method that you use to convert the career stats into MVP ratings?

At first I was using EAGraphics to import the files and BigGUI to compress them. But what ended up happening was that when BigGUI compressed the new files it would uncompress others. Eventually I switched over to the Installer Thingy and it ran smoothly until it started deleting a face or two at random. Usually a face tht I had put in there already. I'm in the process of collecting all of the cyberfaces I have into one folder so that I can install them all at the same time into a clean models.big file and see if that works.

How are you calculating the ratings? Do you have a calculation method that you use to convert the career stats into MVP ratings?

I've used a power template that I found here long ago, so long that I've forgotten who made it, to calculate power and contact ratings for certain seasons. I've got power and contact ratings for every player, for every year they played up to 2005. It's just a question of entering them in MVPEdit. I've got a stat spreadsheet that I use to enter in stats for each player's career year, including breakdown on how they did vs LHP and RHP - same with the pitchers.

I'm going to finish up on the models.big and get back to you guys with more details of what I've done so far.

OK, got the models.big file done the way I want it. Got all the faces I want in there, all of them compressed, all files accounted for.

Now, as to what else I have been working on...

Database: obviously I've been using MVPEdit. To get players for the teams I have been using my own knowledge and the All-Time Rosters found at The Baseball Page. Since the rosters are a combination of modern players and past stars I check the AT Roster to see if any modern players are on it, if they are I cross them off since I don't need to create or export them.

Next, I also check the roster to see if anyone needs to go to a different team because they might not have made a big impact with the team they are with now. ex Nomar is now with the Dodgers, but he had his best years in Boston - so back to the Sox he goes. After trades are made, then I check to see how many roster spots at all levels are left.

The classic players are simply filler players edited to become the stars of yesterday. ex: Donell O'Leary, 1B for the Dodgers "A" Farm team will now become...Steve Garvey. But first I go into Total Classics and export players from those rosters to fill the rosters in the given franchise. It's easier than creating them from scratch and having to guess certain ratings.

Next I go in serch of portraits and I have found three sources for pictures to edit and import into the game with MVPEdit:

1. The Sports E-Cyclopedia

2. BaseballLibrary.com

3. eBay, believe it or not I have found some great examples of 8x10's or baseball cards that I could use in the game through eBay.

Once the photos are edited then I start importing them to the teams, then enter in their stats for their best year with that team using my Lahman database, make whatever adjustments that are needed, enter power and contact ratings...done...next...and so on until the rosters are full.

Yeah, sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but it is also a lot of fun seeing these players on the same field.

CTS Screen: Team for All-Time Screen by abc006.

Gloves: Raindelay7's First Basemen's Mitt which included an old-time mitt pluss others.

Overlay: Trues MLB Fantasy Overlay ver 1.1 with logos.

Uniforms: default unis as of now, however I am looking to add some old-school unis to the mix like:

1962 Los Angeles Angels

1961 Milwaukee Braves

1901 Baltimore Orioles

1978 Boston Red Sox

1911-12 Chicago Cubs

1971-75 Chicago White Sox

1960 Cincinnati Reds

1977 Los Angeles Dodgers

1979 Philadelphis Phillies "Saturday Special Burgandy"

1960 Pittsburgh Pirates

mid-1970's San Diego Padres

1905 New York Giants

1971 Washington Senators (Texas Rangers)

For some reason I haven't had much success getting more unis in the game and having the file remain stable, but I'll give it another shot.

Stadiums: I've got all of the default stadiums that came with MVP'06 mod and I have been using them here because they looked great. I replaced the Spring Training Stadiums with the following:

AAA One: PaulW's Ebbits Field

AAA Two: SeanO's County Stadium

AAA Three: SeanO's "The Big A"

AA One: SeanO's Baltimore Memorial 1993

AA Two: SeanO's LA Wrigley - Night

AA Three: SeanO and PaulW's Yankee Stadium Classic

A One: SeanO's LA Wrigley - Day

A Two: SeanO's Kansas City Municipal

A Three: SeanO's Candlestick Park

Now as soon as it becomes available I would love to replace LA Wrigley with SeanO's LA Memorial Coliseum as soon as it's available.

Well, that's what I've got. I'm more than willing to share the load with anyone who wants to assist in this endeavor. If the TC guys are reading this post I would really love (as I'm sure a lot of people on this board would love) for this to be a TC release. I got this started, I would love your help in finishing. The only question is how do we divy up the work and to whom?

BigDaddyCool,

This is an exciting project. I think JPHidalgo got a really good start on his All-Time Rosters project as I still use it and appreciate what he released.

Most of the TC guys are all invloved in other TC projects at this particular time such as TC78, TC64 & TC's Master Audio.

I am sure we would each be willing to help out when we find the time as this is a very worthwhile project. You just need to let us know specifically how we might help you.

As far as making it a TC project it certainly already is if you want it to be. Total Classics is exactly that ----- any project that involves the Classic Oldtime players/teams/seasons etc etc ..........

Total Classsics was created not to be an exclusive group but rather an open endeavor to encourage others to contribute to the overall enjoyment of all Oldtime Classics Baseball enthusiast. Certainly this project does precisely that as did Hory's spectacular 1994 project.

The Total Classics releases to this point certainly were never the exclusive work of what is commonly referred to as the Total Classics guys but rather a combination of many contributions from many many others. The core group of some of the original Total Classic guys (bunch of old Dudes!!!) still get involved in packaging certain releases and likely will continue to do so for some time --- at least we hope so!

Again, let us know how you think we might assist you and as time allows I am confident we will do what we can to help you bring this project to life!

Thanks for your efforts and I am sure many will enjoy it once completed !

Don

Thanks for that stecropper, I would be honored to make this a TC release. We could refer to it as Total Classics All-Timers. In a way it almost feels like this would be the baseball answer to what Take-Two is going to do with their football game by using retired players.

jp, I would welcome your help as well in putting some of the rosters together. Perhaps we can figure out what needs to be done and then divide up the work. I'll try to figure out how to get you copies of the files that I'm working with so that we have a common reference point.

As for what anybody else can do, well - I came up with a list...

Like homer said earlier - audio files!!! I have no idea how to get them in the game myself, so I can use some help in getting those into the game. I also need to know what of my files you will need in order to make it happen. PM me to give me a list.

As for what audio files I would like, well the player names are a given. But I would also like see get some other music in this, as well as some famous Home Run calls if we can manage it.

Music:

Joltin' Joe DiMaggio

Did you see Jackie Robinson hit that ball?

A dying Cub fan's last request

Play-by-Play (I saw it on the radio)

Robbie -Doby-Boogie

(I have all of these tunes on CD. Let me know what format you need them in like .WAV, MP3, etc and I'll get them too you)

Home Run Calls:

Kirk Gibson - 1988 WS Game 1 (Vin Scully)

Carlton Fisk - 1975 WS Game 6

Bill Mazeroski - 1960 WS Game 7

Joe Carter - 1993 WS Game 6 (Joe Buck)

Hank Aaron - 715 (I've got this one)

Mark McGwire - 62 (I think I can get this off of the video that I have)

If anybody can think up some other tunes or calls to put in the game let us know.

Portraits: I could use some help in getting some good portraits of players faces along with alpha shots so that they can be put into the game using MVPEdit.

Hall of Fame Logo: instead of the Baseball America Top 100 logo, I would like to see if we could replace that with the Hall of Fame logo to denote players that are in the HOF.

Additional unis: I would like a choice of additional throwback unis in the game. However we might want to worry about those after we get all the rosters done. That way when we have all the cyberfaces packed in there that we want and the file is stable, we can start messing around with uniforms.

Gloves: I don't know if there is a way to do this, but I would like to see if there is a way to have more than seven gloves available in the game. Right now I am using raindelay7's glove set which includes a 1b glove and an old-time glove for the players from pre-1960. If there is a way that we can have all of the gloves from raindelay7's set, and the gloves from theSpungo's Fielding Glove Pack v5.0 so that we can have a huge choice of gloves that would be awesome!

Anyway, that's what I need so far in the way of help. Anyone who wants to help out let me know what files you need and I'll see if I can get them to you.

Meanwhile I'm going to get back to work on some players that have cyberfaces but are not yet created as players.

sounds like you've got a good grip on this. the player audios are easy. i can help with that. they are assigned to each player according to their portrait id's. but TC has been working on a total audio set. we'll definitely want to grab as many from that project as possible. i've been working through alextony on it, but he's down for the time being with computer issues. when he's back, we can get rolling on it. the safest bet is to use as many portrait id assignments as possible according to what TC has used, as this will save the trouble of lots of conversions.

as far as portraits, we'll have to get them as we go along. i have a good amount of them from the cyberfaces i've made. so if you need any, just ask me. otherwise, there are guys on here who have access to their old baseball cards. the Score and early 90's donruss sets have really good photos to make portraits from. we'll have to start asking around here for more help on that end.

it'll help of you have some sort of ftp access so that you can divide up the files easier. menu music, i can work with. but as far as in game music and others go, you'd have to ask for more help. hory and unclemo might be guys to ask about that.

and i can help as much as i can with rosters too, but my history is pretty limited to the mariners. but speaking of which, if you're still working on the rosters...those teams that don't quite have extensive histories, i think you could include some great baseball mentionables...such as negro leagues, japan leagues (sadahiro oh for instance)...

is this the kind of logo you're looking for for the HOF?

Yep, that's the logo I'm talking about.

Yeah I got that audios were connected to the photo id's, I'm just not good with working with the audio's myself so that't something, I think, is better left up to someone who has a better handle on what they are doing. Hope alextony gets his problems fixed.

I've been numbering my own portraits, and they don't really follow what's in TC. There's around 550 photos that I have on my own numbering system from 2666-3205. I don't know if it would be easier to change the portrait number or the audio number.

And hey, the Mariners roster is a great place to start if you want. My history was mostly Dodgers which was what I started with.

As far a Negro League players go I am open for that. I think we should try to put them in franchises that were close to the cities in which they played, unless they happened to break into the majors - like Satchel Paige for instance. I would put a Buck O'Neal in Kansas City for example as he's famous for his time with the Kansas City Monarchs.

good news is that logo would be easy to insert.

i can do the player audio. but to make it easier, it would be much simpler to change the portrait id's to match whatever's in TC. it's alot more involved to change the audios to match the id's. plus we can easily use the total audio that's in the process if the id's follow theirs.

Yes, of course, I repeat, try to contact me using msn messenger jp_hidalgo(--at---)hotmail.com

And I think we are going to need repeted uniforms for AAA, AA and A teams, and then, we can have top 100 players for each club.

I think the same about HOF logo (I told it a year ago) replacing America's Prospects...

Thanks a lot!!!

OK, so how would I go about changing the id#'s? Would I use EAGraphics, BigGUI? What's the easiest way of pulling it off?

Not sure if we could do 100 players for each club jp. I actually tried putting 25 players at each level when I first got started and it crashed the game. I found that working within the perameters of the rosters that are already there is the safest way to go.
