marsl
I was wondering with teams that don't have enough players if you could put 2008 teams for the minors? than you could save time, or does this make no sens ? i'm looking forward to this mod thanks for your time investment Marsl Montreal Canada
Yankee4Life
YANKESS LF: Joe DiMaggio CF: Mickey Mantle, Bernie Williams RF: Babe Ruth, Paul O'Neill Opinions? Why would you put Bernie Williams ahead of Joe Dimaggio in the center field spot for the Yankees? That's plain wrong. And for the Dodgers, you completely left out a great third baseman named Billy Cox, who was a lot better at third than Cey or Beltre. Or are you just looking at batting averages for these rosters? pulseox
Is this mod still alive (I hope). If so, I think Duke Snider should be in the Dodger roster, somewhere.
emath2432
See, I did this for High Heat. I know there are two ways to go about it, and I seem to be in the minority... How can you justify NOT having Frank Robinson on both the Reds, and the Orioles? Not having Jimmie Foxx on both the Sox, and the A's? Nolan on the Rangers, Astros, and Angels? I just can't grasp that notion. If you asked me to come up with the all-time greatest Reds roster, and asked me who are the Reds all-time Outfielders, Frank Robinson is easily one of the top 3. Then, if you asked me about the Orioles... Frank Robinson is easily in the top 3... I can't justify playing against one of these teams (or using that team), in a franchise, and not have frank Robinson on it... The way I constructed my teams is using their greatest seasonal stats to create them. In High Heat it was easier, as you just edited in the stats, and it created the ratings. Frank Robinson's stats in his best year with the Reds is how you created him in the editor, then his best years with the Orioles is how you created him there. He had two different ratings sets. Essentially, he was two different guys, just with the same name, and same picture. Anyway, like I said, I seem to be in the minority, so enjoy your rosters when they are finished... One thing I know is how much time and effort something like this takes.. Mine still are not 100% done, and I started them in 2001/2002 time frame... Homer
that's weird, because i feel like i'm in the minority not wanting two frank robinsons playing on different teams. but that's why the game and mvpedit has the options to trade guys. yeah, you have to make tough decisions...but so what? i just don't see the point of having guys on two or more different teams. because why would you stop there? why not just make all guys on all teams they played with? why not make guys in different eras of their careers? babe ruth was an excellent pitcher, but we know him for his offense. so why not create both? why not create a steroids bonds and a pre-steroids bonds? they were both excellent, but in different ways? why not make paul molitors in his infield days and his days as a DH? he was excellent in both eras. i'm just saying that with an all timers project, there should be more than enough guys to fill in the spots. plus being that the game only allows you to create a roster of no more than 3250 guys, and you have multiple versions of hundreds of guys, that number will shrink fast. see, i can justify really easy on only having the guys in there once. there are thousands of guys that could fit in the roster. if you repeat players, you're gonna have to leave guys out, which i think is a worse idea than not having two versions of the same guy. i guess if this were the perfect game and we had no restrictions, then fine. but the way this game engine is set up, it makes no sense to repeat guys if you're going to fill all levels with all timers. but i'm with you on how long this takes. i don't see the end near for my version either... Padres67
I am using just the teams from 1978-which means no Rockies, Dbacks,Marlins, Rays. In mvp edit I am just taking the major league teams from 1978 and coming up with all timers for just basically the starting 9 and the starting 5 with 2-3 relief pitchers from an all time perspective. I am placing cyberfaces when I find them. Pretty much a down and dirty method.
Endless
The Mets should have Mike Piazza for sure. And I would take out Roger Cedeno. He really doesn't come to mind when I think "Mets". I would probably add Carlos Beltran in his place.
emath2432
because why would you stop there? why not just make all guys on all teams they played with? why not make guys in different eras of their careers? babe ruth was an excellent pitcher, but we know him for his offense. so why not create both? why not create a steroids bonds and a pre-steroids bonds? they were both excellent, but in different ways? why not make paul molitors in his infield days and his days as a DH? he was excellent in both eras. Please don't take this negatively, because that is not how it sounds in my head... May seem like it in print though... I think the above examples are a little over the top. At least the Molitor part. Molitor wasn't an all-time great for anyone other than the Brewers, so I make him as a Brewer, using his best stats as his time with the Brewers. There is no reason to have two versions of him in Milwaukee, and he wasn't good enough to be on anyone elses team. Trust me, there has to be some limitations. Rogers Hornsby had one of the greatest seasons in Cub history, but he isn't on the Cubs... He played 1 full season there, and was a part time player, and manager the other 3. However, I have two Babe Ruth's in mine. He is a pitcher for the Red Sox, and a RF for the Yankees. I also have a pre steroid Bonds on the Pirates, and a Post Steroid Bonds on the Giants. It has nothing to do with different eras of a players career. It has to do with, if a player is great for a team, how do I tell that team that can't have one of the greatest players in their history, simply because he was also great for another team. Ask any Ranger fans to name the top 5 pitchers in their teams history. I bet they name Ryan, Jenkins, and maybe Kevin Brown. Doing it the other way, and they are lucky if they get Kevin Brown (and not even the GREAT Kevin Brown, but the pretty good Kevin Brown). It sounds silly, but I took the approach of... If this were like an all-star vote, and each teams stadium passed out ballots for their franchises all-time roster... And the fans got to pick.... I bet Dawson is on the Nationals/Expos, and the Cubs. I bet Ryan makes the Angles, Astros, and Rangers. I bet Foxx gets the Sox, and the A's...Sure, it's all hypothetical, since I am the one making the choices, and not actually the fans, but that is how I based it... Trust me, I am not saying yours is wrong. I applaud the fact you are taking this on. I also think that doing it your way will make for some great teams.... Just, I would rather see Larry Walker in Montreal/Washington, than I would some body less talented, just because he went on to be even better in Colorado. We'll probably have to agree to disagree though... Good luck finishing. I have all the ML done, and most of the reserves (AAA) , except for the pitching, in my High Heat one... Though that is on the back burner now with me getting into MVP at the moment...
Homer
nothing negative meant here at all. really. but my point again, where and how do you decide which case is falls under which category? yeah, there are obvious ones. but you say that about molitor, again, how do you decide that? you're just one person's opinion. it's completely subjective. yeah, i know molitor was an all time great for the brewers. but ask a blue jays fan or a twins fan who's looking at a roster where guys are repeated, and explain to them why he's excluded. he was a badass hitter for those teams. what about other guys like boggs? he's a red sox through and through. but he won his only WS with the yankees and was clearly on the decline. is the WS not as important a stat as his offensive stats? and again, on top of that, if i make so many versions of these guys, who am i going to leave out? i simply solve all those problems by placing them on one team. trades can always be made. but there's plenty of greats in all the rosters no matter which way you go. i personally am making this because i want to see the greats play against each other, not with themselves. but sounds like you're further than me. i'm doing one organization at a time (mlb to A). not even half way there yet!
