Lual
Pre-Season: With a busy Pre-Season coming to an end, the Mets decide to re-shuffle their Minor League System, by bringing in 6 players to add some depth and potentially offer cover for the MLB team down the stretch. The Players who signed: 1B - Brad Fullmer, just peaking in terms of his ability, and is a viable option to spot start in the Majors if Mientkiewicz needs resting. Signed a 1 year deal, optioned to start for AAA Norfolk Tides. 3B - Tony Batista, another experienced player, not one for the future, but could offer valuable depth come the run in. Signed a 1 year deal, optioned to AAA Norfolk Tides. SS - Erick Almonte, although unlikely to break into the Majors, he will give the organisation a solid player. Signed a 1 year deal, optioned to AAA Norfolk Tides, though may drop to AA Binghamton Mets to start. SS - Julian Reynoso, JuRey is 19, and has a bag of talent. A long term prospect, and has signed a 2 year deal and will start in A ball St Lucie Mets for the coming year. CF - Peter Bergeron, another player signed for cover, though at 27, Peter is capable of earning a bench role in the Bigs. Signed a 1 year deal, to start for AAA Norfolk Tides. RF - Gabe Kapler, the Mets are blessed in this positon, but with Calloway complaining and likely to leave the organisation, Gabe should give the team some experience if needed. Kapler has a 1 year deal to prove his worth, in AAA Norfolk Tides. With 6 coming in, 6 players where given their last pay cheque as a Mets player: Left Fielders, Bobby Malek and Tyler Davidson - Centre Fielder, Victor Hall - Starting Pitcher, Matt Durkin - Catcher, Fernando Lunar - 2nd Baseman, Jed Hansen - all left the team, and will try their hand in Free Agency for the coming season. Lual
Time for the fun to begin...... Upcoming Series - 3 games in Cincinatti. Game 1: @ Cincinnati Reds Mets Sneak Past Reds in 12! (Above: Pedro goes strong through 8 innings & Pinch Hitter Woodward drives in the winning run in the 12th inning) What a way to open the season, as the Mets comeback, only to blow the lead in the 9th, then win it with a Pinch Hit single in the 12th. Pedro looked shaky in his first start for the Mets, giving up 4 hits in the 1st, including a 2 run jack from Reds 1st Baseman, Shaun Casey. Pedro then found his feet after this, giving up just 1 more hit, as he went 8 strong innings, taking 5 Ks with him. The Mets managed to dig out an unlikely comeback in the 8th, as with 1 out, Miguel Cairo came in to Pinch Hit for struggling Matsui (0-3). With 2 men on base, Cairo blasted a 2 RBI double to right, to tie things up for the Mets. Beltran then stepped up, to single to centre, allowing Cairo to nip round the bases to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. The Mets managed to take the lead into the 9th, but with DeJean on the mound to clean up, he failed to prevent Adam Dunn going yard, to tie things up, and send the game into extra innings. Extra Innings, and the Yo-Yo match took another turn in the 12th, as Cameron blased a Triple with 1 out. Valent then came into pinch hit for Heredia, but he popped up. Leaving the Mets looking on in hope for the leading run to come home. SS Woodward came up to Pinch Hit for Reyes (0-5), and he managed to drill a single to left, to give the Mets a 4-3 lead, which they wouldnt relinquish, as Looper picked up a 1-2-3 innning. Lual
Game 2: @ Cincinnati Reds Mets Survive Reds Rally! (Above: Mientkiewicz doubles to drive in the 5th run for the Mets & Wright makes a clutch diving grab, to gun down Dunn to wrap up the game) Game 2, and Victory number 2 for the Mets. This time, it was the Reds who pushed for the comeback, but they would rue only managing 1 run with the bases loaded in the 9th. It started well for the Mets, as Glavine pitched well, allowing the Mets to take a 2-0 lead in the 4th, thanks to Reyes and Beltran driving home the runs. The lead didnt last long, as straight back came the Reds with 2 runs of their own in the 4th, thanks to the middle order hitting from Casey and Randa. Into the 8th, and Beltran came up big, as he drove home Cairo, who again had came in to Pinch Hit, this time his double put him in prime position to score. 2 more runs came in the 9th, as the Mets looked to have sealed things 5-2, as both Wright and Mientkiewicz doubled to drive in their first runs of the year. The real drama unfolded in the 9th though. It looked as if Ishii would see out the game comfortably, managing to force 2 outs. Then things got a little tasty, as the Reds loaded the bases thanks to hits from Griffey and Randa, sandwiching a walk for Casey. The Mets management immediately pulled Ishii and bought in Closer Looper to try and force the last out. Unfortunately, he walked Kearns bringing the score 5-3 Mets. Then Dunn seemed to have driven in the tieing runs, with a liner to left. Step up David Wright, who clawed in the ball, and gunned down Dunn at 1st, to end the inning and the game. Mets Notables: Hitting: Mientkiewicz - 2/4 1 Double, 1 RBI Pitching: Glavine - 7I 8H 2R 2ER 1BB 4K 2.57era (1-0) Looper (Save 2) Box R H E NYM 5 8 0 CIN 3 11
Lual
Game 3: @ Cincinnati Reds Love Me Tender, Love Me Sweep!! (Above: Beltran sets up for his game winning Homer, whilst on the right, Mientkiewicz gloves the ball, as he helps turn the game ending double play.) A tight series in Cinci, ends with the Mets winning the game in the 9th, to seal a 3-0 sweep of the Reds. 6 scoreless innings proceeded a late game rally, as the best chance either side had of marking the board, was in the 3rd, when the Reds left the bases loaded with just 1 out. In the 7th, it was Mientkiewicz's 2nd double of the game, that drove home Beltran to give the Mets the lead. Into the 8th, and Reliever Koo came to the mound. He gave up 4 hits and 1 run on a Griffey Sac Fly, before being pulled with the bases loaded. It was DeJean who managed to firstly strike out Casey, then force Randa to pop up, who save the inning, leaving the Reds with 2 men on. Into the 9th, and with extra innings staring the teams in the face for the 2nd game of 3, it was Beltran who drove a 370+ foot homer off Weber to put the Mets into the lead, which DeJean managed to hold onto, thanks in no small part to the game ending Double Play turned by Reyes and Mientkiewicz. Mets Notables: Hitting: Beltran - 2/4, 1HR, 1RBI Mientkiewicz - 2/4, 2 Doubles, 1RBI Pitching: Benson - 7I 5H 1BB 2K 0.00era DeJean - (1-0) Box R H E NYM 2 6 0 CIN 1 9
Lual
Upcoming Series - 3 Games in Atlanta Game 1: @ Atlanta Braves Mets Mauled! (Above: The Mets cant believe their luck. No Hits and 12 runs against.) After starting the season 3-0, the Mets rolled into Atlanta to face the 13 time straight, NL East Champions. Thomson started and finished the game for the Braves on the mound, as he managed to pitch a 9 inning no-hitter, as the Mets kept their bats clean. The only blemish on the Braves scoresheet, was an error comitted by LaRoche, which allowed Matsui on base. He then promptly stole 2nd and 3rd, before scoring on a Sac Hit by Floyd. This was the only bright spot in the game for the Mets, as the Braves managed to rack up 20 hits and 12 runs, to dominate their guests 12-1. Lual
Game 2: @ Atlanta Braves Better Late Than Never! (Above: Wright off for his round trip after giving the Mets a 2-1 lead & Mets Celebrate their 9th Inning win over the Braves) After the disappointing series opener, the Mets came back to Turner Field, and managed to take 12 hits, and a 2-1 win away from the game. It looked more of the same for the Braves as they took a 4th inning lead on the back of a Furcal Triple and LaRoche RBI single. Then when the bases became loaded in the 8th for the Braves, it looked as if Trachsel had blown his bolt, before he came back tough to force 3 straight outs. Into the 9th, and needing a miracle, the Mets found themselves watching back to back home runs, as Floyd then Wright went Yard to give the Mets a 2-1 lead to defend, as Braves closer Danny Kolb failed in his attempt to shut things up. Looper came in to close things out, and earned 3 straight Ks to kill of the Braves and clinch an unlikely win. Lual
Game 3: @ Atlanta Braves Pedro Winless In 2! (Above: Beltran cracks his Solo Shot off the Pole, but its not enough to spark another 9th Inning comeback) The deciding match in the series, and it was just as close as Game 2. Pedro starting for the 2nd time in the Mets Uniform, again struggled as he gave up 3 runs in 4 innings. The Braves on the back of some solid pitching by Smoltz, had a Jordan Triple in the 2nd (2 RBI) and a Mondesi Single in the 4th (1 RBI) to thank for the 3-0 lead. Nothing more of note happened until the 9th, when Beltran crammed his 2nd Homer of the season off the right field pole. Alas it was too little, too late for the Mets, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to the Braves. Lual
Upcoming Series - 3 Games at Home vs Houston Game 1: vs Houston Astros Unhappy Home-Coming! (Above: Cairo replaced the struggling Matsui at 2B, but couldnt prevent the Mets slumping to another loss) The Mets first home series started with a loss, as the Astros staged a snatch and grab win at Shea Stadium. This game saw the start of the lineup changes for the Mets, as the struggling Matsui was moved to the bench, to make way for Miguel Cairo, who has proven his worth, with some solid at bats, whilst pinch hitting. The game started with a Astro blitz, as 3 innings, 3 runs for the visitors gave the Mets a mountain to climb. Jason Lane showed Beltran why the Astros wont miss their former CF, by banging in a 2 run jack, in the 3rd. The Mets huff and puffed to stay in touch, but only had Cairos 9th inning RBI double to show for their efforts. Astros taking it 3-1. Lual
Game 2: Home vs Houston Astros Walk Off Drama! (Above: Floyd smashes another Homer, and Right, he Celebrates his Game Winning, Walk Off Home Run in style) Drama at its best, as the Mets and Astros go to 11 innings, in another exciting finale. The Mets again proved to be the late show specialists, as they came back from 5-2 down, to tie it in the 9th, then take the win, thanks to a 390 foot solo shot from Outfielder Cliff Floyd. Things had looked bleak for the Mets, as Biggio had drilled a 3 run jack to left, giving the Astros a 4-0 lead in the 2nd. However, Floyd showed his worth later that inning, as his 2 run homer, added to Cairos RBI double, giving the Mets a chance at 3-4. Into the 6th, and Astro Catcher Ausmus, added to Houstons lead, by banging a single up the middle to send Palmeiro home, to give the Astros, what seemed to be a game clinching 5-3 lead. Again it came to the 9th inning, and again the Mets showed enormous spirit, as a Matsui double drove in Cameron, followed by a Cairo double to drive in Matsui, to tie the game, and send it into extra innings. Nothing going for either team, until Floyd stepped up to the plate with 2 outs, blasting his 2nd homer and 4th hit of the game, deep to right, sending Shea Stadium wild, as the Mets take the game 6-5. Mets Notables: Hitting: Floyd - 4/6, 2HR, 4RBI, 1Double Pitching: Benson - 6I 10H 5R 5ER 4K 1HR 3.46era DeJean - (2-0) Box R H E HOU 5 15 4 NYM 6 12
Spivey11
Lual officially has papa over every other dynasty here! For those of you that aren't too sure about what papa means: Papa is an Escalade on 24 inch spinners, TVs in the headrest, four 15s and two 12s, and of course hydralics compared to a stock Escalade. Papa means that whatever it is you are talking about is better than any other thing that compares. Papa is daddy!

Lual
Game 3: Home vs Houston Astros All Night Long! (Above: New York Celebrates Mientkiewicz' tying home run in the 13th & Right Matsui helps turn 2, before his clutch RBI single to win the game) Words cant describe what happened at Shea tonight. A mammouth 21 inning match, 33 hits, 9 runs and alot of fun. Houston appeared to had tied the game up, heading into the 8th 3-1 up, with Closer Brad Lidge on the mound. The Mets though, never gave up, and their growing reputation as the never say die team in the MLB, came true again. As Beltran and Cameron drove in the tying runs. Extra innings just seemed to blend into each other, the Astros appeared to had taken the advantage, scoring a run in the 13th, and then getting 2 quick outs in the Mets lineup. Thats until, Doug Mientkiewicz came to the plate, he waited patiently, then jumped on a fastball inside, to juice the tying homer, sending those Mets fans still in the stadium crazy. 8 innings later, and Matsui turned hero, firstly by turning a huge double play to end the Astros inning, with a man spare on 3rd. Then with the bases loaded, he blooped a single up the middle, to bring David Wright home, to seal the win. Lual
Upcoming Series - 3 Games at Home vs Florida Game 1: Home vs Florida Marlins Mets Fishing Woes! (Above: Piazza starts to show what hes capable of & Florida celebrate their clutch win) Florida came to New York, and instantly put their authority on this NL East series. The Marlins put Trachsel to the sword early on, racking up 4 runs in 3 innings, as the Mets starter stuggled to cope with the Marlins offence. Eventually giving up 9 hits in 6 innings. Piazza then showed why hes earning $15million this year, as he crushed a Solo Homer Run over 400ft, putting the Mets on the board. Things got interesting in the 8th, as the Mets loaded the bases on the back of 3 straight walks by reliefer Alfonseca. And although another walk, put a run on the board, Alfonseca managed to then strike out the next 3 batters, to leave the Mets 4-2 down and pretty much out. The 9th came and went without much incident, as Mota picked up a comfortable save, ensuring the Marlins won 4-2. New York again struggled with the bat, only managing 3 hits in a drab display. Lual
Game 2: Home vs Florida Marlins Pedro Blues! (Above: Pedro Martinez struggles to adjust to life as a Met & Beltran makes a diving grab to keep the score respectable) The Mets fall to their 2nd straight loss against the Marlins, as Pedro is now winless in 3, with a 0-2 record. The game was in the bag for the Marlins by the 6th innning, as they had racked up 6 runs, including a 3 run homer by Cabrera, who ended with 4 RBIs on the day. Piazza came off the bench to drive home the only run for the Mets in the 8th, but there where no more heroics from the hosts, as they slumped to a 6-1 loss, dropping to 6-5, 1GB in the division. More concern for the offence, as only 4 hits came their way, in yet another weak display at the plate. Lual
Game 3: Home vs Florida Marlins Third Time Lucky! (Above: Beltran fields, then throws out Pierre at home in the 8th, to ensure the Mets stayed ahead) After losing games 1 & 2, the Mets pulled things around in the Rubber, to avoid a sweep, and move to 7-5 in the year. This time, the offence clicked early for New York, as they loaded the bases in the 2nd, and managed to score 2 runs, via a Wright single, and a Walk to Glavine. After such a good start, things started to slip, and although Beltran wheeled his way to 3rd with no outs in the 4th, thanks to 2 stolen bags, no-one could drive him home. The Marlins managed to pull 1 run back in the 7th, thanks to a Encarnacion double, but the Mets fought hard, and clung on to the win, thanks to a awesome play from Beltran, fielding a blooped single to centre, then gunning down Pierre at home. Glavine pitched 7 solid innings giving up just the 1 run, before Heredia and then Looper sealed things for the hosts.
