Upcoming Series - 3 Games @ Atlanta

Game 1: @ Atlanta Braves

The Late, Late Show!

reyhome.jpgwrflocele.jpg

(Above: Reyes slides home as the Mets comeback big, Right: Nice start to a roadtrip.)

The Mets stared defeat in the face for 8 innings without a hit, until a 5 hit 3 run burst in the 9th, gave them a hard earned comeback win, to start the series in Atlanta.

Atlanta knocked in the 1st run in the 8th, seemingly killing off the Mets who had failed to get a hit at this point. Danny Kolb should of closed the game down, but he struggled to get things going, and eventually gave up the winning runs to Floyd who drove home 2 on a long double up the middle.

Trachsel is proving to be the shining light in the Mets rotation, as he moves to 4-1 on the year, with a stong 8 innings pitched. DeJean came in to clean things up, with a 123 9th.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Floyd 2 RBI

Reyes 1 RBI

Pitching:

Trachsel - 8I 7H 1R 1ER 1.73era (4-1)

DeJean (Save 2)

Game 2: @ Atlanta Braves

fish and CHIPS!

(Above: What are the fans watching?, Right: Every defeat hurts the Mets.)

Chipper Jones helped the Braves to beat the Mets 3-1 in game 2, as he slammed a solo home run in the 1st inning, to set the tone for the game.

Although Beltran managed to tie things with a single, to drive in a run. The Braves soon put 2 more runs on the board, as they took advantage of a struggling Pedro.

The Mets still trail in the NL East, and need a quick injection of wins, if they are too remain in contact with the leading teams.

Pedro has now slipped to 1-7 this season, and is quickly losing face at his new club. When asked about his poor form he stated "I cant take all the blame" and walked off.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Beltran - 1RBI

Pitching:

Martinez - 7I 8H 3R 3ER 2K 1HR 4.56era (1-7)

Game 3: @ Atlanta Braves

Phew!

offpitch.jpgtruedat.jpg

(Above: The pitcher gets hit, as Reyes forces a run home, Right: Back on Track.)

A crazy game to end the series at Turner Field, as the Mets almost threw away a certain win. The New York club, managed to score 5 runs without reply, as they headed into the 8th inning, needing just 6 outs to finish off the game.

In came Roberts to pitch the 8th, he instantly lost all composure, giving up 3 hits and 3 runs, as the Braves piled on the pressure, taking just a 2 run defecit into the 9th inning.

The Mets took no chances in the 9th, and called on DeJean to close things down. Unbelievably, he gave up 1 run, and had men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out remaining. Staring a potential embarrasing comeback loss down the barrel, DeJean forced Mondesi to pop out to Wright on a 2-2 count, giving the Mets a hard fought victory.

With the good, comes the bad, and thats what the Mets faced after the game. Cliff Floyd was carried off in the 8th inning, as he dive to grab a ball in the outfield. After a scan, it was reported he would join Matsui on the sidelines for over a year, as he has torn his knee MCL, leaving the Mets without a key player at a key time.

The Front Office commented "We now find ourselves with 2 positional starters out of action for over a year. Reshuffling the roster via the Minor system seems the most viable option, but we are looking closely at Carl Crawfords situation in Tampa, as he has recently been placed on the trade block..."

Whether the Mets are prepared to take on Crawfords $5million salary, and who they are willing to give up, will be the big questions that need answering. Next up for the Mets, is a trip to Florida for 4 games against the Marlins.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Reyes - 2/5, 1RBI

Cairo - 2/3, 1RBI

Pitching:

Glavine - 7I 6H 1R 1ER 2BB 2K 3.66era (4-6)

DeJean - (Save 3)

Roster News:

With Cliff Floyd now out for the season, the Mets needed to replace him. Peter Bergeron a FA pickup pre-season, has been called up on the back of his .302Avg, 17RBI and 4HR performance for Norfolk in AAA.

At the same time, Braden Looper has come back of the DL, though he will not pitch for 2 more days, thus Jae Woeng Seo will be sent to AAA Norfolk, as Fortunato has been impressive in his time with the Mets.

Trade Rumours:

LF Carl Crawford has been on the Trade Block for a couple of weeks now, and with the Mets needing a replacement for the injured Floyd, the rumour is that they will tempt the Devil Rays with LF Eric Valent, and SP Ishii. Whether either side will make or take this deal, is something to watch out for.

Upcoming Series - 4 Games @ Florida

Game 1: @ Florida Marlins

Beck'Met'!

bergeron.jpgbarto.jpg

(Above: Begeron cracks a 2RBI double with his 1st AB for the Mets, Right: Bartolome pitches 3 innings, retiring 9 straight, with 3Ks.)

A dream start for the Mets and their debutant Bergeron, as they drove in 5 runs in the 1st inning, forcing the Marlins to change starter Josh Beckett after 0.2 of an inning.

A 6th run came in in the 2nd inning, as the Mets raced away from a slow starting Marlins. The Fish did pull 3 runs back in 6 innings, but Bartolome came in to clamp down the hosts, as he retired 9 straight, picking up 3Ks and his 2nd save of the year.

The Mets are now 3 from 4 on this road trip, and are pushing their way back into contention.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Mientkiewicz - 2/4

Bergeron - 1/4, 2RBI, 1 Double

Pitching:

Benson - 4I 9H 2R 2ER 3K 3.36

Game 2: @ Florida Marlins

Thanks Victor!

rbipiazza.jpgoutreach.jpg

(Above: Piazzas 1st inning RBI merely a stat, Right: Cairo cant grab a blooper, as the Marlins race away.)

After starting so well, by knocking in 2 runs in the 1st inning, the Mets fell away thanks to 1 man. That man, Victor Zambrano. He pitched 1 inning, gave up 7 hits and 6 runs as all the Mets hard work was thrown away by awful pitching, from a man who barely cares.

The Mets ended up on the wrong end of a 8-2 beating, all down to the 1 crazy inning. Offensively the Mets couldnt repeat the success of their 1st inning bust. Amassing a mere 2 more hits in the rest of the game, 6 in total.

Should Victor stay or go, is the question asked by many now, a 0-7 record is a shambles, as the Mets are now 49 games into a potentially disastorous season.

2 more games left in the series, 3 in the month, 10-15 so far in May for the Mets, alot of room for improvement.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Piazza - 2/4, 1RBI

Pitching:

Zambrano - 1I 6H 6R 6ER 5.90era (0-7)

Ishii - 7I 6H 2R 2ER 4K 4.91

I say try trading Zambrano and someone else for Crawford. I don't know what the ratings are, so I have no clue if this is feasible, but if it is... go for it. ;)

Who in their right mind would trade Crawford for Zambrano, an 0-7 starter?? But your right, it's worth a shot.

Well, this is a blind assumption, and I don't know if in the game records or stats are taken into consideration alongside raings and salaries and age.

If you have no intention on keeping Floyd after his injury surcomes (I don't know his numbers), than wait for Floyd to come back and throw Zambrano in there for Crawford and a prospect. Or just Floyd and Zam for Craw. I'd take it.

Game 3: @ Florida Marlins

6 Of The Worst!

wric.jpgwrik.jpg

(Above: WebGem, Wright makes a diving catch at 3rd base, Right: Down and Out, the Mets strikeout of the game in the 9th.)

The Mets tumble to a 2nd straight defeat against the Marlins, as they went down to 6 quick runs in the middle of the match. All the runs came off home runs, as the Marlins went yard 3 times, giving Trachsel a headache as he slipped to 4-2 for the year.

Any comeback hope was quickly extinguished by Alfonseca of the Marlins, as he came in to pitch the 8th inning, with the Mets having just pulled 1 run back, and having the bases full with 1 out. The Marlins reliever, quickly saw out the inning, and then ploughed through the 9th.

Florida have now won 2 from 3 and will look to finish off the series tomorrow with another win.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Game 4: @ Florida Marlins

Nothing But Hope!

beltjack2.jpgwillihit.jpg

(Above: Beltran hits homer number 4, and Right: Pitcher Willis gets hit on the head, as the Mets chase the Marlins.)

Its becoming clear that the Mets season is now reliant on hope, rather than anything the team can do on the field. Martinez has now lost his 8th game of the season, as the Mets rotation is arguably the worst in MLB history, when looking at how much they are paid.

Beltran did smack his 4th homer of the year, to lighten the mood for an inning, but the Mets came up short 6-2, in a game that the Marlins always had at least a 2 run lead in.

Where next for the Mets, is the question being asked. They now sit 9GB with a 22-29 record, which on current form is hardly likely to improve very much.

If the Mets are to succeed this year, they need to quickly transform certain areas of the team, either through trades or call-ups. OR, if the Front Office are happy to let this season fall away, they will have to rebuild drastically in the off-season.

Mets Notables:

Hitting:

Mientkiewicz - 2/4

Piazza - 2/4

Beltran - 1/4, 1HR, 1RBI

Pitching:

Martinez - 6I 7H 5R 5ER 1BB 2K 2HR 4.79era (1-8 )

Its a tough call - part of me thinks, just go for it and take Crawford, but at the same time, i want to keep a Mets feel for things in the 1st season.

The injuries to Floyd and Matsui are likely to force my hand, as tbh the players replacing them just dont cut it.

The Off-Season will definately bring change :)

Im going to look at some deals for Crawford, i dont want to stitch up the Devil Rays though.

Thanks for all the input lads :)

What do you all think to this deal to get Crawford?

Mets Get:

LF - Carl Crawford 4YR @ $4.8mil

Devil Rays Get:

SP - K. Ishii 1YR @ $3mil

LF - E. Valent 1YR @ 300K

CF - P. Bergeron 1YR @ 500K

Im taking on a unhappy player (orange face), as well as an extra $1.5mil in salary, plus another cheap FA to add to my A roster to make up the numbers.

DRays get less talent on paper, but with each only on 1YR deals, they can release them if they dont perform. Ishii is a viable starter, Valent although not in Crawfords calibre would be good for Spot, and Bergeron is decent enough to pinch hit.

The Minuses for me are:

1 - Im getting a top player and giving up very little.

2 - Floyd will be back next year, and although hes not that hot - i would of kept him at LF for 1 more year.

3 - Crawford is unhappy, and my chemistry is already at a low level.

Any input appreciated :)

Crawford's still a great pickup. Can't wait to see what he does in his debut. Ishii isn't that hot of a pitcher, Valent's a good backup, and Bergeron is just a wildcard. You should start trading for youth. Try and get one of the top 100 prospects. Ramirez is good, Derksen is good, Phillips is alright, Mauer would be huge, Gathright could add speed, any of those players would give you a future.

I digress. Anyways, Crawford is still a good pickup for a cheap cost of 3 decent players. Can't wait to see what he does in his first appearance as a Met. I'm sure you'll give a full scouting report just as well as all the reports you give.

:p Okay, you're not getting the jist here. I know Ramirez = Derksen in the game. I don't know if Lual knows that. It was meant to be "Ramirez is good/Derksen is good" meaning that whichever person it was on his roster, they are good. Instead, by accident, I wrote "Ramirez is good, Derksen is good". Got it now?
