PrestonMunchinsonton
Thought you all might like to know that EA plans no more patches MVP 2005. I emailed EA regarding the "fast game after Patch #2" issue. I've tried all the workarounds and finally decided to ask EA if they planned to address it in a future patch. I received this response: Response (Carlos F.) 05/11/2005 09:27 AM Hello, Thank you for contacting EA technical support. I am sorry that you are having difficulty. Unfortunately, technical support has been informed by the developers that no other patches are in development for this title at this time. I am sorry, our only suggestion would be to uninstall the game, reinstall the game and only apply patch 1 and 3.
five
I always thought that if you applied the last patch it would apply the ones before it as well. That you would only need to patch with v3 and it would take care of itself and the ones before it.
Lars777
What do you mean by fast game? Is the game playing to fast?
ReddShadoe
The funny thing is, there is no patch 3. Or patch 2. If you go to EA's website, there is only 1 patch, and the second of their 2 roster updates. So you can install "Patch 3" (the second roster update) without installing "Patch 2" (which is actually Patch 1). I had the screaming speed too, but for some reason after ireinstalling the game, (WITH the patch), it works fine, with the same settings. I don't get it. PrestonMunchinsonton
What I mean by fast game is that the game runs a little too fast. Its most noticeable when balls are hit to the outfield (outfielders run waaaay to fast). However, all gameplay is too fast (almost impossible to hit). Its smooth as silk (because of Patch#2), but too fast. ReddShadoe, you reinstalled the game and applied just patch 3 and the problem is solved? What about choppy play? Did you have that issue initially? I had it bad, and the patch #2 fixed the choppy play, but sped up the game. If you did have choppy play, is it gone now? UncleMo
preston, you're new here. welcome. now search the forums. there is a solution to your game running too fast. TURN V SYNC OFF! if that doesn't work review the forums for this problem
Jitter
You need to turn Vsync on in both your video card control panel and in the game options. Vsync will limit your frame rate to your monitors refresh rate.
PrestonMunchinsonton
Hey there UncleMo and Jitter. I don't post frequently, but I'm not new here. If you read my initial post closely, you'll see the following: "...I've tried all the workarounds..." What I meant by "workarounds" WAS turning on Vsync in the game and in my ATI Control panel, juicing up AA to 6x (the most my card is capable of), turing up AF to 16X, trying different refresh rates (60 MHZ instead 85 MHZ), standing on my head, closing one eye, etc. I know how to use the search engine and have tried everyone's (MVPMods members and EA tech supports') suggestions. Jitter
Try downloading a program called fraps. www.fraps.com Run it while you are playing a game (actually on the field). If your framerate is going over the 85 or 60 whatever you hve it set at then your vsync is not working. If its not working make sure you have the proper monitor drivers. If you are sure you have those and its still not working then maybe you can try a refresh rate locker program such as reforce or ATI Tray tools. All reforce does is locks a refresh rate to a specific resolution. By default its set to use the max refresh rate that your monitor can handle at a given resolution, but you can customize each refresh rate @ each resolution if you choose to. ATI Tray tools has a refresh locker built in along w/ several other features. It is a fully functional ATI control panel along w/ other tweaks / functions. If you use either of these it is very important that you have the proper monitor drivers or you can possible damage your monitor! PrestonMunchinsonton
Thanks Jitter. I may try uninstalling, reinstalling, and just applying the last patch (as ReddShadoe suggested). If that doesn't do it, I'll try what you suggested. If none of that works... I might have to pick up a used XBOX (hate to do that, I like modding too much). PrestonMunchinsonton
Well, after uninstalling, reinstalling, and applying just the last roster update (which is also a patch)...the game speed seems to be better. Not perfect, but slowed down some. Still have to crank up AA and AF and force vsync in the ATI properties. I can live with the gameplay now. Jitter
You should still check out your framerates to see whats going on. Its possible your vsync isnt working. If you have remnants of old drivers on your PC its possible it could be causing conflicts w/ some control panel settings. The only reason AA and AF cause it to be slower is because those settings require more juice and it prob causes about a 5-10 fps drop in general. To remove left over pieces of drivers I would reccomend downloading drivercleaner @ www.drivercleaner.net . You need to uninstall your ATI control panel from add remove programs, do not reboot, uninstall the ATI display driver from add/remove programs. Run driver cleaner for ATI, ATI WDM, and ATI CCC (if you use the catalsyst control center). Reboot into safe mode run driver cleaner again, then reboot normally. Do not let windows install your drivers automatically. When/If the prompt comes up, either cancel it, or just move the window out of the way and run the ATI setup program. If you choose to do this its good timing cause ATI just released new drivers yesterday.

(though I use a pentium 4 & have xp pro & am using the 6800 ultra, but not overclocked & my RAM speed is a bit higher) What settings are you using? (I mean your refresh rate etc...) big shmooz
ReddShadoe, you reinstalled the game and applied just patch 3 and the problem is solved? What about choppy play? Did you have that issue initially? I had it bad, and the patch #2 fixed the choppy play, but sped up the game. If you did have choppy play, is it gone now? You misunderstood him. He explained that in truth there is only one patch (what you are referring to as patch number 2 is really the only patch, the others are simply roster updates & nothing more). Hence when he was saying he applied the patch, he means what you are referring to as patch 2.

Do you have the stutter of the ball when you throw the ball across the field? (since I don't believe that what you are referring to as the patch is actually a patch at all. Hence you will indeed get slower speed, because it didn't fix the stutter problem, which is what caused the speedup in the first place). Anyway, correct me if I am wrong. PrestonMunchinsonton
Het Shmooz. I no longer have the stutter. The download listed under "PC-CD Roster Update" (Added 4/22/05) is a patch, in addition to a roster update. No one here seems to believe that this file is a patch, but it is. Why do I think so? Well, its over 6 mb for one (the first roster update, which was not a "patch" was less than 1 mb if I remember correctly). Second, after my recent fresh install, I gave the game a try and it was back to its old stuttering ways. I applied the roster update, and the stuttering dissappeared. Like I said, the game still seems to run a little fast, but not as bad as before unintalled, reinstalled, and applied just this one patch...roster update...whatever. Michal
Well I got same reply from EA after patch #1 and two next patches comes. If we create some type of "pressure group" which will "bombing" EA support roughly 20-30 e-mails per day, they have to have do something with the game. RAM
patch1 = roster update patch2 = roster update, stutter "fix" and whatever was in patch 1. patch3 = roster update. plus whatever was in the other 2 previous "patches"
PrestonMunchinsonton
Jitter, Thanks for the info about Drivercleaner! I gave my system a good scrubbing and then installed the newest ATI drivers and control panel. There was a noticeable difference! The game has definitely slowed down to playable level. Its night and day when hitting. Before, it was basically impossible to pickup the location of a pitch. Now, I'm back to connected like I did with MVP 2004. Anyone having this speed issue (too damn fast) should try Jitter's suggestion. Big help. Thanks again!
spitoon
patch1 = roster update patch2 = roster update, stutter "fix" and whatever was in patch 1. patch3 = roster update. plus whatever was in the other 2 previous "patches" That's how I understand it, each successive patch includes everything from the previous ones. So, by installing 'patch 3' you are installing 1, 2, and 3.
Jitter
Glad you got it working, everytime you install new drivers you should follow that routine it will save you a lot of headaches. Also you should double check your monitor drivers. EVerytime I install new vid drivers, windows detects my monitor wrong and I have to update the driver. HarleyRider
I think the reason EA's not comming out with any more patches for MVP'05 is because they want you to buy MVP'06 when it comes out. This is typical practice for EA, which in my opinion, SUCKS!!! Cheers!!!
five
Until I see proof, I don't think there will be an 06.
Go Tribe
unfortunately, all the fixes listed above do not work for everyone. for some reason, i still can't apply patches 2 or 3. if i do, i either get super fast play with v-synch on or crashes to desktop during first two batters with it off. i've tried everything - uninstall/reinstall 100 times, forced refresh rate (i have a dell WS LCD that only does 60), about 5 different flavors of catalyst drivers, ALL with driver cleaner doing complete scrub. it sucks but there's nothing i can do amd xp3200+ 1 gb pc3200 dual channel ram (also tried 500 dual channel) win xp pro x800 pro :(
