APR
Can anyone tell me if this would be a good buy for MVP and future games such as Madden 06 and Battlefield 2?? http://pcworld.pricegrabber.com/rating_get...51052/id_type=M BTW-For reference purposes, I am using a GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x right now. UncleMo
yeah it should be great. i have the 9200 128MB video card, not the 9200 SE. Mine works great except I had the grass shimmer problem and the stuttering issues until the fixes came out. I still have the grass problem and my game only stutters because of the Unis I downloaded. APR
What do the numbers 9550, 9200, and 9600 mean?
UncleMo
not positive, but if you want to know what is better, if you only want to play MVP 05, get a cheaper card. I did hear, on another note, that there is not much difference between 9200 and the 9600. then after the 9600 you can REALLY tell a difference when you get to a 9800. big shmooz
I couldn't see the link. It's not working. I am curious, how much is that card going to cost? The reason I ask is because I have a 9700 laying around doing nothing. It's a few months old (about 6 to 7 months) & well taken care of. (in perfect condition) I might be willing to sell it since I have an Nvidia 6800 ultra. If you are interested PM me.

Dead_Monkey_Z
That card won't get you very far. In other words....you'd be wasting your money. If you plan on playing future games like BF2 you'll definitely want to go with a faster card if you got the money. I got a 6800gt and love the hell outta it. Ati - nothing less than a 9800pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102281 nVidia - nothing less than a 6600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814122206 Also, what are the full specs of your computer? Matching the right card with the right prossessor is a must if you want to get the most out of it. And always buy from NewEgg.
archrival
On that same web page you had a link to, the Radeon 9800 with 128 (the 256 isn't much faster) is the same price and a far better card.

APR
wow u guys must have alot of money saved or something if ur gonna buy those cards Well, they're not that much. $150 is pretty normal for a decent card now...I think. But, some of us do have jobs, if not most of us, and we probably have other ways of acquiring money. For instance, I saved up about $140 over the past couple months, and just gained another $115 or so from the sale of my PS2. I also plan on working at Dick's Sporting Goods this summer to make some extra cash and pay for car insurance. But that's just my story. And when you think about it, if a video card can last you maybe 2 years, and it costs you $150, thats only $6.25 a month for it. So when you span it out, it's really a drop in the bucket.
APR
After doing some searches, I found the Official Specs Video Card wise for Battlefield 2. It said that I should have at least a 9800 Pro or a 6600GT. Can any of you guys give me some ideas of what kind of cards these are (good v. bad)? archrival
My 9800 Pro is awesome, it cost me $200 a year ago. Did a booster give you some extra cash then, or was it a kickback from the kicker and his weed money? ;)
Dolfan349
The 6600GT is overall a better card than the 9800 Pro. They're very close in some situations, but the 6600GT is more futureproof. If the 9800 Pro can be found dirt-cheap, get that instead.
archrival
By the way, the only problem with the 9800 Pro I have is in Linux. ATI support for that is very poor, but if you don't use Linux, that it's not an issue. Drivers have been very stable and I crank everything up. I play at 1024x768+ with all AA/AF settings at max and everything set to max quality, most games are smooth as silk. A few need to be tweaked a little. Mainly Doom 3. HaloFan
Don't buy an SE card from Ati. SE usually means something good, or better than a normal version, but in Ati's world, SE means a stripped down version of the regular card. I had a 9600SE for a few days, and it sucked royally. I took it back, and later bought a 9600XT, which has served me very well for close to 2 years now.

eber
Here you go: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814164025 $124.99 for a new 9800 Pro...should be good for your purposes. Edit: Even better, use the coupon code: CNETHELP1 for $10 off. $114.99 for the card...that's a good bang for your buck card right there.
APR
Will that card be good for the future too? What I'm asking is, will it last about 2 years or so?
eber
As someone said, the 6600GT is more future proof than the 9800 Pro. Not knowing your pricepoint, and assuming it's around what you'd pay for the 9550 (~$150) I'd like at getting this card 6600GT for $155 shipped after $20 rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...206&depa=0[ . It's probably your best bet for a card less than $200. If you want to spend a little more and be a bit more future proof than try a 6800 for $199 after $30 rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...-202&depa=0 Again, as with any technology, after 2 years there's gonna be better hardware and tougher gaming requirements, but these cards should suffice for any card you'll get right now for sub-$200. Also, as someone mentioned, your system will have a lot do with the performance of these cards. Your system can be a bottleneck and limit the performance of the videocards. So...as for future proofing, you might also need to upgrade your system too.
eber
Just to give you an idea of the power you'll be getting with these cards take a look at this benchmark: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2...tml#3dmark_2003 Note the 6600 GT isn't on there but would be above the 9800 Pro. Also, the 9550 you thought about buying wouldn't even be on that chart. The 9550 is comparable to one of the 9200 cards. But just remember, you need a good system to run the higher end cards. APR
Thanks for all the help guys. My system specs go as follows: Pentium 4 2.66 GHz 512mb RAM Windows XP Home Edition SP 2 IDK what else you need, but there is some of it.
big shmooz
A 6800 card should be alright for that. My friend has a 2.53 processor & has a 6800 & games run very nicely (including MVP). So the video card should not be a bottleneck for you.
APR
I probably won't be spending $290 on a 6800, is there a big difference between a 6600 and a 6800?
