WayoftheBraves
Seriously. I have tuned this game, I have patched this game, and still, the CPU infield defense is absolutely atrocious. These guys can't even make he simplest of plays and since I started playing in March, I have seen only about 20 successful double plays. I can't even tell you how many balls have been airmailed on pick-off throws. An MLB pitcher that can't throw pick-offs would be released in real-life. Anybody have a fix for this? It's getting real old and I'm sick of seeing games that have a combined six errors.
jhath
actually... i dont think their defense is that bad... evidently you havent had your leadoff hitter thrown out at first by a mediocre fielding, falling away from the throw thirdbaseman very often... i hate that play  altho, i do agree pickoffs are screwed up... i have at least 1 pickoff throw go way by the 2b every game.... but thats cause they try to pick off EVERY SINGLE BASERUNNER at least three times... WayoftheBraves
jhath, isn't that bad??? Goodness gracious, come over to my place sometime and I'll show you just how bad... The falling away thing, that happens occasionally too. And that's usually when they actually make the play. eko, I'm playing All-Star using Pared's sliders. At higher levels the defense should be better.
jhath
same settings here... for me the cpu has an error about every other game...
eko718
I don't know.... I play MVP with no slider adjustments except + 10 throw speed(for both teams) and -20 power and contact for myself(-15 for comp). I havent noticed anything strange on my end. I'll pay more attention and see.
WayoftheBraves
That is really strange. Maybe my game is defective! LOL For me, I have an error just about every game. At least. Whatever it is, it's gotta be fixed. I cannot play this game if my CPU defense can't turn a single double play or at the last make a throw from third to first. Good news is, outfield defense is perfectly fine.
jhath
lol it is strange... maybe you play really bad fielding teams... i dunno.... but i do kno that i get thrown out by the 3bman falling away at least once a game lol
jservice
Adjust your throw acc. slider may help. Not holding down the button to the end of meter may help. I play on MVP level with only hitting sliders changed and I turn 2-3 DP every game and only pick-off a runner with the right pitcher. Which it close to MLB avg. Good Luck
WayoftheBraves
jservice, I said I use CPU defense. jhath, I've played every team on CPU and the result is always the same. ERRORS. If Lou Pinella saw this, he would suicide-bomb E.A. HQ.
AcousticNut
Hmm.... I haven't noticed any excessive poor defensive play from the CPU. The major league average is about 1 error per game and 1 double play per game. This is about what I'm seeing from the CPU defense. Maybe it's something in your datafile? I haven't heard that complaint from anyone so that's very odd. I've played about 50 games and the CPU's never made more than 3 errors in a game. WayoftheBraves
Now that you mention it, that may be it. I do use KSM's datafile, because of his awesome behind-pitcher camera. However, I use one of the earliest versions of it. Would the newest version fix this?
Jitter
You should check out KSM's Ball move Zoom Cam, it is pretty wild. As your pitcher winds up, the camera kinda moves around w/ you. The only problem is you need to use the custom overlay or else the PIP will get in the way of your pitch meter. All I did was copy the lines for that view into my datafile w/o including the gameplay tweaks.
WayoftheBraves
The thing is, I don't like those funky stylized cameras. I just love that standard realistic behind-the-pitcher cam and that high fielding cam. The simplest cams are the best. :D
Jitter
all you need to do is replace the lines that correponds to those cameras you like into the default datafile and you'll be set.
WayoftheBraves
Is there a specific editor required to edit the datafile?
manzer1984
You need to use MVP Compression Utility 2005 which can be found in the Tools & Editors section of the Downloads. It is easy to use.
gcurrier2004
Its the same reason the outfield defense is so good.
AcousticNut
Its the same reason the outfield defense is so good. I had to really crank down the OF speed so that they didn't get to everything hit out that way (-21). I still wish that the OF'ers would miss a ball on the dive every now and then
txomisc
If anything i think the infield defense is too good. That third base play is as annoying as it gets. Hell ive been thrown out by guys with mediocre arms from beyond the third basecoach. Also if an infielder chases down a fly ball you know he is gonna get to it. Pitchers snag too many linedrives and second basemen have too much range up the middle.
