Game 1, New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves: Atlanta, Georgia: Turner Field

	Pedro Martinez vs. John Smoltz

	Final: Atlanta 3 5 0

		 New York 2 8 0
Pedro Martinez pitched six innings of no-hit baseball, using his changeup and circle-change to fluster the Atlanta batters, but only striking out two batters, before Marcus Giles and Eric Chavez broke it up with consecutive solo homers. Martinez was able to get out of the inning with the game still tied at 2, but the tide had clearly swung. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the ninth when Eric Chavez jacked his second homer off of Braden Looper. The celebrations continued for some time as Atlanta was able to pick up its first win of the season against their rival. Jorge Sosa picked up the win in his first appearance with the Braves. John Smoltz pitched six solid innings but left losing by two and picked up the no decision.
Jorge Sosa W (1-0) 0.00 ERA

Braden Looper L (0-1) 9.00 ERA
