FBlue
What is the best controller for one guy might not be the best for the next. I now use a Thrustmaster dual analog and really like the layout of the buttons. Xbox controllers are ok but I like dual flippers. I had Logitech Dual Action pad for a while and it is laid out like PS2 controllers. And I am sure someone is going to recommend another pad as well. Maybe you can go to a store and see what controller feels right in your hands.
spitoon
I used a Thrustmaster Dual Power when I played MVP 2004, and I liked it too. It took some serious messing around to get the buttons configured right though. Once I did, it was good. FBlue is giving good advice. Go to a computer/electronics store and see how they feel in your hands, that's most important.
FBlue
Well your right too spitoon, it does take some configuring to get the pad right. One problem of the Thrustmaster pad is that the analog sticks are set in circles. Pads like logitech have them set in squares. What this means is you can't reach the far corners without using the software with thrustmaster controllers. One other bit of advice I would give is to look for a pad with dual flippers for both the right and left sides. Your hands can only hit so many buttons at one time if they are on top of the controller.

The running backs would run as if they were in quicksand once they got the ball if you tried to run diagonally...I finally figured it out using the software. thr33niL
Go to ebay and get a PS2 to USB converter and use a PS2 controller. If you already have a the conroller (who doesnt nowadays), you will only be spending <$10 on the converter. Works great (plug and play).
