Limit of models.big has been reached

I have it seems reached the limit of the models.big with the latest cyberface upload (Jason Dubois). Basically what I have installed is almost (though not some of the cyberface uploads that are of player prospects) all the cyberfaces at mvpmods plus the moser uni's. Now, no matter what I do, the next time I try to run the .bat file to install (or even reinstall the same cyberface again) I get the gfxpak error that says that it needs to close & it will not install the cyberface. I have backed up the models.big file in case of corruption & then tried using the backup & this did not work. I have even removed some cyberfaces & then it does let me install more cyberfaces, but only till the above mentioned limit. After that is reached it no longer let's me install any more (or reinstall).

If anybody else is having this problem, please post here.

Also... If anybody has any ideas as to how to solve this issue so that I can install more cyberfaces, please post it here. Thanks.

I am wondering if a manual install might work, but I have a feeling it will not since I think what is happening is, that it will actually corrupt the models.big file, should I attempt to install more cyberfaces. If this assumption is incorrect, please post it here, thanks.

ICe cream doesnt.

Tell that to your kid(s) when you're 50 years old and in hospital recovering from a triple bypass. Ice cream = large amounts of sugar. Large amounts of sugar = bad for the heart.

shmooz, did you take a backup before the limit was reached on the file?

I have had the same problem but just use EAGE to import the cyberfaces and compress them with BigGUI....but no rebuild. They all work just fine for me doing it this way.

btw...I have only KC Star's v104 unis. I had all of Mosers but then when I went to load a cyberface, I think one from TermKorea, this started happening. So I went back to an older models.big file I had saved and started over. Same thing happened again, even if I only used EAGE to import them. So I just gave in and do them all this way (EAGE to import, BigGUI to compress) regardless if they come with an installer or not.

I get the gfxpak error that says that it needs to close & it will not install the cyberface.

I just got this too and its a weird error.

I have KC's unis and about a dozen cyberfaces installed (some just adjusted faces) and it did this when I was doing a facial hair change on a player. I got the error imorting the .fsh, .orl and ord file. After that didnt work I imported with bigGUI. Then in game when I checked the player page it crashed. So I imported the stock files back in and all was well. Then I tried just importing the .fsh file with bigGUI and it worked (as it wouldnt with the batch installer).

Strange.

Another thing is that this was my first 04 face import. On all the faces I made and updated, I never had a problem but they were all the 2005 faces. As soon as I tinkered with and 04 face, it bungs up. Its probably just coincidence.

I just PMed JoltinJoeCarter this info b/c he asked me to explain exactly what I do to import cyberfaces...basically to expand on what I have said above...so here it goes...this works for me...not guaranteed to work for you...just thought I'd post to help out...

1. using EAGE or BigGUI check models.big to make sure there is not a cyberface filename/number already present that is the same as the one you are about to import...i.e., when you download Menechino's cyberface, the files are c690....well when I imported his cyberface I had already assinged a player with a cyberface with files corresponding to that number...likley b/c his cyberface files conflicted with a file I already had (it's a bad cycle I know)...so I changed the file names for Menechino to c692. If you do this file name change you have to use EAGE to import them since the installer that comes with the download looks for the original filenames...I could be wrong but I have tried using the installers after changing the filename/number and they never work. Just note that if you don't do this filename change your game will still work but then you will have two players with the same cyberface.

2. OK...once you have established the filename/number you want to use, you must then change the players Face number in MVPedit to correspond with the new filename/number you are installing and export the updated roster set

3. open EAGE and open the models.big file...use the Import Wizard and add the files you wish to Import by following the prompts

4. open BigGUI and open your models.big file...find the cyberface files you just imported (typically there are three...*.orl, *.ord, and *.fsh)...highlight those files and only those files and compress them using the Edit menu item "Compress"

***I do not ever rebuild my models.big file using BigGUI...just compressing them has worked for me, so I just close BigGUI once I compress the appropriate files

5. once I do what I explained above I start the game and either start and exhibition with the player as the leadoff hitter or the starting pitcher to check that his face is imported promperly...or I just start a Hitting Mini Game and use that player

***ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL FILE...I keep a copy of the original that came with the game and then I update a second copy once I know the cyberface has imported properly. So I have three models.big files on my PC (original, updated and copy of the updated).

EDIT-Forgot to mention a couple things...

-I have just about every cyberface listed in the 2005 Faces download section on this site....and have used this method for the last half or so (~10 or so cyberfaces)

-For some reason if I compress the K-Rod cyberface update my game crashes if I use or play against the Angels (I started a thread about this way back when I was having trouble)...so I leave it uncompressed and it works fine...it's actually one of the best IMO

to add. you should never have to rebuild models.big in big gui. and as MD pointed out not EVERY file in models.big needs to be compressed.

shmooz, did you take a backup before the limit was reached on the file?

Yes, I did. This is why at least I don't have a corrupt file. However I still can't add faces.

Wow... thankee MaddiesDaddy... I appreciate your input. (though I have no problem myself with the K-Rod cyberface.) I plan on doing the other things you explained G-D willing.

one more question MaddiesDaddy... Can I do the same thing for extra uniform imports? I have stopped doing the extra uniforms because of the same error I have been getting.

Actually it does work, but you have to remember to change the numbers in the installer to correspond to the number you changed manually of the cyberface itself.

not sure about uni's. never used the method I described above but guess it could work...I dunno for sure though.

note...I use the method I described above for portrait importing as well.

edit....for portraits I don't use BigGUI at all. I just import them into the portrait.big file using EAGE regardless of whether they come with an installer. So there is no compression or anything like that for portraits, just an "importation" with EAGE and that's it.

uniforms i'm not sure about uniforms because, this year they have a different type of compression in them for the MLB sets. i've never used EAGE this season to import them. last year i did for gloves and cleats. bigbully would know that one i would think.

personally what I would do is take your backup models.big and start over. do not rebuild etc. and go from there. someone up above metioned a 3000 file limit to models.big (gfxpak) and he's probably correct BUT, you should be nowhere near that. because in theory most of what you are doing is replacing files that are already there. but still MD has almost every cyber installed. and i on the other hand have most cybers installed for default (already assigned a unique face ingame) players, bondsy, millar, and chavez. outside of that unless they are on my owner mode team (washington) i haven't really installed any others. since i rarely see them i don't care. now, i also have every MLB uniform replaced, and am slowly replacing and adding my minor league uniforms as i complete each team. i'm exactly 1/6th of the way through the project. point is no problems. i think i would start fresh.

to resolve this, if you haven't tried alrady. right click the batch file open in notepad, edit the 3 file name numbers to correspond with the #'s you changed. close notepad, say yes to changes. install. should work out ok.

One thing you can do w/Moser's unis is recompress them before you add them. If you open each of his uniform files w/nfshtool, it will create a folder w/all the files in them. In that folder, right-click on index.fsh and open w/Notepad. On the 3rd line, change FSH to QFS - save yes to save changes. Then right-click on index.fsh again and say open with nfshtool. After that you can delete the folder nfshtool created.

If you notice the size of Mosers' files, before and after you do this, you'll find that doing this makes his files smaller. KC, on the otherhand, already uses QFS compression.

how big did models.big reach for this limit?

is it around 180 mb? default is like 166

well my models.big is at a whopping 297mb. no crashes here.

i think it has more to do with the fact that he may have reached the cyberface limit (there HAS to be one as far as ADDING new cybers), or he has been rebuilding models.big w/ big gui.

i dont think this whole limit thing will be a problem at all. Most people wont install

every cyberface. Players like Jason Dubois are just not important enough except for Cubs fans who play their team.

And if what u say is true, about the cyberfaces having a limit, then i guess ill just concentrate making ones for existing players. I did a Delmon Young, but with the prospects, u can use them for next year, when we might not have a new game.

yeah i agree most won't install them all. a few do though, and that's where the problem may arise. keep doing what you're doing though, i think your faces are great. people will just have to be a little more selective on who they install. but yeah there has to be a limit. there is w/ everything else.

the reason I have downloaded just about every cyberface available is because the way I see it as I move along in my dynasty perhaps one of those guys are a player I'd end up trading for or signing. So yeah right now DuBois does not matter really but in season 4 perhaps I'll sign or trade for him if I see a need for it.

plus I like seeing as many players look like as life like as possible even when I play against them.

just a personal preference and a plea to keep on making cyberfaces for those players who do not have them. at least for myself, I enjoy having as many as possible.

I do the same thing for portraits, but I had thought that for the models.big file to import to, this was not a good thing (that it could corrupt the file) & that's why I had not used this method till now to import cyberfaces.

Btw... A BIG THANKS TO YOU!!!! Your method worked for me as far as the cyberfaces. I plan to back up the models.big & try it on the uni's too.

Thanks for the response. I am going to try installing the uni's with what I have already (after creating a backup) & see what happens. I have done over the models.big a number of times already from scratch & as you know, it's no fun. So I am going to try this way & pray to G-D that it works. If not, I will either redo from scratch or live without the extra uni's.

Btw... the 3000 file limit is correct. In fact I believe this is the key to all the problems to begin with. (actually I believe it's technically 2,999. It won't go to 3000, it says an error instead). I found this out when I installed the newest cyberfaces. (unlike you, I have almost every cyberface installed) When I went to install it with eage it shows how many files there are, & it was at 2,999. (that's why when I added more files with gfxpak it said it had to close)

Actually my models.big file is way way larger than both of you guys. It's at 456 megs.
