Free agents in offseason....

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this one. I am playing a dynasty with the cubs and every new season it seems there isn't a single decent free-agent available to sign, some years not even one. That is not a very realistic part of the game. Then I got thinking and I was wondering in the owner mode set-up for budgets....(I am playing with high budgets) Do the budgets need to be set to low, so other teams can't afford to re-sign big money players?? That would make sense to me. But then again I'm retarded......Anyone who has thoughts on this, let me know....thanks a lot!!

I could be wrong, but I believe the budget part only has to deal with the starting amount of money you have in owner mode. I think you start out w/ 5 million on high budget, 3 million on medium, and 1 million on low. As far as the free agent thing, I think the lack of superstar free agents is just something that the other teams do...they sign their big stars before they can hit the F.A. market, just as you try to do with your best players. I could be completely wrong about this whole thing, but that's just what I think.

The free agent resigning seems to be fairly random. One dynasty, you could have Barry Zito, Ben Sheets, and Kevin Brown as free agents, the next, the best available arm is Brian Boehringer. By simming multiple seasons, I've discovered that it is impossible to sign a big-name closer like Lidge or Gagne in free agency. You've got to trade if you want a lights-out closer. I find myself making sign-and-trade deals pretty often to get the players I want. As for whether budget makes a difference, I can't say.

here's the plan, save it after the world series and keep going back if no one is interesting in ur opinion. Its amazing, i got Vladimir once in the free agent list and trust me... THATS HARD. Never got Johan though...

That's why I usually build from within and rarely rely on the free agent system other than to get veterans to fill in AAA or on the rosters and a middle guy if none of the AAA guys are ready to fill in for a veteran lost to free agency
