Upping game resolution? and some other newbie ?s

Hey, I'm completely new to these forums but I'm so glad there is a place like this for mvp. I'm ridiculously addicted to this game and some of the mods you guys have done look killer and I cant wait to try them

Anyway, has anyone been able to change their resolution from the native 1024x768? The reason being is that there is a hardcoded resolution for another game I play (silent hunter III) and someone found a way around it and I wondered if that would work with MVP..

the thread that explains that is here - http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bb...t=000995#000000

and the direct3d override files are located here - http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip

the way this works for SH3 is you just toss the d3d9.dll in the base directory for the game, edit the cfg file for whatever resolution you'd like, and when you start the game windows calls the .dll in the game directory before it goes to the system directory.. however, when i tried this for mvp, it didnt work.. so maybe you modders know the folder structure and which folder it might work under?

(or someone has another way around this already?)

anyway, the other question i had was that i've noticed people mentioning changing the slider difficulty lvl.. why is this? is there a bug with the sliders? i play on all-star difficulty and sometimes i can win easily and sometimes i lose games 1-0, 2-1, etc etc. either the opposing pitcher is throwing beachballs or golfballs.. maybe its because of this?

That's kind of cool, but I don't think I'm ready to uninstall SP2 in order to play at 1600X1200...even if it did work.

As far as your slider question, I don't think there is a bug with the sliders, it's just that you have be careful when manipulating them because they can have 'side effects'.

The best advice I can give is to make up your own sliders, everyone has a different opinion on what makes a good baseball sim, and you can customize that experience (to a certain extent) by adjusting sliders.

Some of the sliders appear to be reversed i.e. moving the Pitch Meter Difficulty slider up to make it easier, while others seem to have little effect at all. Still others like contact and power seem to be somewhat tied together.

If you keep reading, they found a way to get it working with sp2.

has anyone applied this theory to mvp then? I'd love to play in 1600x1200, or have I missed it somewhere?

This thread was just started this morning, I'm willing to give it a try tonight.

if anyone manages to get it work, thatd be awesome. it really made SH3 look amazing. (not that it didn't in the first place)

what is the deal with sliders? i guess i didnt understand what was wrong with them to begin with, although sometimes i notice some pitches taking some really odd curves late in their arc that doesnt seem to make sense. i was just asking because i noticed people edited their slider sets so i was wondering if maybe there was a well-known bug there

The resolution is stored in your profile.

so are you saying the only place to change it is ingame as I don't get the 1600x1200 option there? is there a way to edit the profile.sav?

It's not that easy jim, the game doesn't offer a 1600X1200 resolution, so even if there was a way to mod the profile, or edit an .ini, the option is simply not available. The fix suggested in the thread above is basically a way of forcing 1600X1200 on a game that otherwise wouldn't allow it.

I didn't get a chance to try it out last night, but I will over the next couple of days...it worked for SH3, so I suppose it's possible that it might work for MVP, however I doubt it.

I tried this breifly last night, I followed all the steps and everything seemed to work smoothly as far as creating the .sdb with the Application Compatability ToolKit etc....but it didn't seem to do anything in the game...I'll be able to give it some more time tonight.
