Upcoming Series - 4 Games @ San Francisco Giants

Game 1: Cincinnati Reds (31-50) @ San Francisco Giants (41-39)

Giants Bigger Than Reds!

game83.jpg

Above: Thats 21 for Junior, Right: Griffey is not amused by the continual decline of the Reds

Ken Griffey Jr drove in his 21st homer of the year, which bought up 1500RBIs in his awesome career.

This however was just a sidenote in the game, as the Giants outhit the Reds 13-4 to rack up a 5-2 win in game 1 of 4. The Giants had a 5-0 lead after a 4 run 4th, which included Barry Bonds drilling a 3 run jack deep to center.

Wilson pitched 8 innings, and grew in confidence as the game went on, but he was handed his 5th defeat, as the Reds couldnt add any offence, bar the 9th inning 2 run shot by Griffey.

3 more games to go at SBC Park, and the Reds will look to improve their record as their .500 dream is slipping away.

Reds Talk:

Griffey: "Its nice to put 1500RBIs up in my career. But the focus is on getting this team back to winning ways"

Wilson: "Rocky game, though things did pick up, i just needed some offence"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Griffey - 1/4, 1HR, 2RBI

Pitching:

Wilson - 8I 13H 5R 5ER 1BB 5K 1HR 3.82ERA L(5-5)

Game 2: Cincinnati Reds (31-51) @ San Francisco Giants (42-39)

Harang 3 Hits Gnats!

game85.jpg

Above: Griffey enjoys playing at SBC, Right: Harang works his magic on the mound!

Cincinnati take game 2 against the Giants thanks to a top drawer pitching effort by Aaron Harang.

Harang went the complete game, giving up just 3 hits, 1 of which was a solo shot by Bonds for the only Giants score. He was helped by the Reds offence, which came alive with 11 hits. 2 of those hits went the distance, as Griffey (6th) and Pena (8th) inning slams put the Reds over the top.

The Reds fully deserved their win on the day, and will point to their use of their Alternate jerseys as a good luck omen.

Reds Talk:

Harang: "The best of Harang is starting to show, lets hope i can keep this going"

Dunn: "Its good to have a .750 game, i want to become a more consistent hitter and this performance shows that"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Freel - 2/5

Griffey - 1/5, 1HR, 2RBI

Pena - 3/4, 1HR, 1RBI

Dunn - 3/4, 1RBI, 1 Double

LaRue - 1RBI

Pitching:

Harang - 9I 3H 1R 1ER 0BB 3K 1HR 2.16ERA W(4-1)

Game 3: Cincinnati Reds (32-51) @ San Francisco Giants (42-40)

Griffey Does It Again!

game84.jpg

Above: Griffey is the Giants Daddy, Right: Team Spirit!

The Reds sneak game 3 against the Giants, in a comeback win 5-4. The Giants had led 2-0 and 3-1 through 4 innings, before Griffey and then Randa forced the Reds into a 5-4 lead in the 7th, which they wouldnt relinquish.

The pitching staff all mucked in to make sure there was no collapse, with Brazoban picking up the win, and Graves making his 13th save of the year, unlucky for the Giants.

Dunn is also starting to perform better for the Reds, he has now gone 6/8 in the last 2 games, proving that hes not just a homerun hitter, but also someone you can rely on getting on base.

The Reds will have 1 more in San Francisco, before a 3 game road trip to Arizona leads into the All-Star break.

Reds Talk:

Griffey: "Its been a good series for me, lets hope i can make it 4 in a row"

Miley: "We will just keep on trucking, ill guarentee these players will always give 100% for this ballclub"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Lopez - 3/5, 1 Double

Freel - 2/4, 1RBI

Griffey - 1/4, 1HR 1RBI

Dunn - 3/4, 1 Double

Randa - 2/4, 3RBI, 1 Double

Pitching:

Claussen - 5I 8H 4R 4ER 1BB 2K 2HR 3.11ERA

Brazoban - 2.1I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 3K 0HR 2.40ERA W(2-2)

Wagner - 0.2I 1H 0R 0ER 1BB 1K 0HR 5.46ERA

Game 4: Cincinnati Reds (33-51) @ San Francisco Giants (42-41)

Hat Trick!

game87.jpg

Above: Seriously, Griffey is 4/4 in homers this series. Right: Celebrate a 3-1 series win in San Fran!

3 in a row, the Reds wrap up their stay in San Francisco with a 3-1 win over the Giants.

The Reds led from the 1st inning, and stayed ahead only allowing 1 run to an Alou homer in the 7th.

Robertson claimed his 2nd win of the campaign, as he kept the Giants offence quiet with a sound 6IP. The Bullpen also stepped up today, as Wagner went 2 shut out innings, before handing over to Graves who saved his 14th game of the year.

Its been a positive series for the Reds, and although they still trail the Cards by 16 games, they will harbour hopes of pulling back to a .500 season.

Reds Talk:

Dunn: "Its great to see Junior get back to his old self. The Reds will be a better team with an active Griffey"

Graves: "This club owes me one after today, im the Reds main man, yet they treat me like a dog"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Griffey - 2/4, 1HR, 1RBI

Pena - 2/4

Dunn - 2/4, 1RBI

Freel - 1RBI

Pitching:

Robertson - 6I 5H 1R 1ER 0BB 1K 1HR 4.66ERA W(2-3)

Wagner - 2I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 5.14ERA

Lual, you should do an All-Star Game special or something, when the time comes in your dynasty for the all star break. Maybe like a fake hr derby. And definitely post results of the game. I think that would be sweet. Maybe like a pre-game special of the reds highlights in the 1st half, or the MLB highlights. Definitely something like interviews w/ the players and things like the media would do during the all star break.

Upcoming Series - 3 Games @ Arizona Diamondbacks

Game 1: Cincinnati Reds (34-51) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (40-47)

Arizona Rattle Up 14!

game86.jpg

Above: Freel ends a good personal day with a swing out, Right: Losing hurts after a winning streak

The DBacks punched their way past a miserable Reds pitching effort, racking up 14 unanswered runs in 7 innings.

Freel was the Reds only real productive AB, going 3/5 and drilling in the Reds consolation runs in the 9th innings.

No one would of thought Milton would be 8-8 at this stage of the season especially after his 8-3 start. But his form has dropped dramatically, causing alot of concern for the Reds staff, as he is generally considered their ace.

2 more left in Arizona for the Reds, before a nice 4 day break which gives all the teams a chance to refresh themselves for a late push for post season glory.

Reds Talk:

Miley: "Disappointing to go down like this, after such a spirited series win against the Giants. We need to at least take 1 from the last 2 here, to build on after the All-Star Break"

Milton: "All pitchers go through a rough spell, it looks like mines starting to peak"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Freel - 3/5, 2RBI, 1 Double

Pitching:

Milton - 5I 11H 11R 1ER 8BB 1K 4HR 5.03ERA L(8-8 )

MLB Trade News:

With the Deadline approaching, teams will be looking to strengthen or shift salary depending on their situation. To that end, the first semi big deal was concluded today as:

HOU sent Morgan Ensberg to WAS

WAS sent Jose Vidro to HOU

The deal looks pretty even, and both sides will hope they can get some solid production through the 2nd half of the season, from their new players.

Game 2: Cincinnati Reds (34-52) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (41-47)

Reds Second Best!

game88.jpg

Above: Randa drives the Reds ahead with a long double, Right: Mileys in there somewhere, and hes seething

Arizona snapped up game 2 on the back of a Cruz Jr. Grand Slam in the 6th inning, as the DBacks came back from a 1-0 4th inning defecit, to lead 7-1 in the 7th.

The Reds were hoping to hold on to a marginal victory, but Wilson lost his touch in the 6th inning, as the DBacks slithered to a comfortable win in the Arizona sun.

Game 3 is a key matchup for the Reds, as they wont want to go into the All-Star break on the back of a sweep. Harang will be given the start, hoping to improve on his sterling 4-1 record.

Reds Talk:

O'Brien (GM): "The wins in San Francisco really gave this team a lift. Im hoping we can manufacture a few moves to bring in some top prospects."

Freel: "Im making the most of starting at 2nd. Its good to get the nod from Skip, i only hope i can repay his confidence in me"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Freel - 2/4

Randa - 2/4, 1RBI, 1 Double

Pitching:

Wilson - 6I 8H 6R 6ER 2BB 5K 2HR 4.08ERA L(5-6)

Game 3: Cincinnati Reds (34-53) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (42-47)

DBacks Clean Up!

game89.jpg

Above: Encarnacion and Lopez drive in the runs, as the Reds comeback falls short

The Reds fall to a sloppy series sweep in Arizona, as they fall short of a miracle comeback, losing out 5-4.

Arizona had raced into a 5-0 lead, leaving the Reds facing another beating by the DBacks. Lopez then drove in 2 runs in the 7th, Encarnacion added 1 more in the 8th and when an error allowed the Reds 4th run to come home in the 9th, the comeback dream was on.

Alas with 1 man at 2nd, the Reds couldnt find the hit needed to bring him home, leaving them with a sour 5-4 loss in their mouth.

Not a good series for the Reds, their 1-2-3 starters all took losses in some brutal beatings.

All-Star Break is around the corner, the Reds can relax and enjoy the show in Detroit.

Reds Talk:

Griffey: "Id love to be part of a World Series, whether that will happen with the Reds is another story"

Lopez: "I want to produce more for this team, my AB are crucial as im the leadoff man"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Lopez - 2/4, 2RBI, 1 Double

Encarnacion - 2/4, 1RBI

Pitching:

Harang - 6I 10H 5R 5ER 1BB 4K 0HR 2.66ERA L(4-2)
