The All-Stars arrived for Baseballs mid-season showpiece in Detroit with winning on their mind.

The AL blitzed ahead 5-1 in the 5th inning, thanks to Ichiro who hit a 2 run jack with his 1st AB. The 6th inning heralded the NL comeback, as they put 7 runs on the board, including Scott Rolens 2 run homer and Castillos 3 run shot which put the NL in control.

Phillies Closer Billy Wagner managed to shut down the AL offence for the final inning, as the NL clinched the game 8-6, giving their Championship Winners, Home-Field advantage for the World Series.

Upcoming Series - 3 Games Home vs Colorado Rockies

Game 1: Colorado Rockies (36-53) @ Cincinnati Reds (34-54)

Rockie Road Ahead For Reds!

game90.jpg

Above: Dunn commits 1 of 5 Reds errors, Right: Pena goes 3/4 with this jack

The Reds losing streak grew to 4 games, as they blew a 3 run lead in the 9th, to slump 4-3 against the Rockies.

The game should of been in the books, as the Reds comfortably put runs on the board, and even blew chances to score more, with some questionable baserunning. Even their fielding was sub-par, as in total the Reds put 5 errors on the board, the last of which proved decisive.

Claussen had pitched a gem through 8 innings, and was given the ball to complete the game. Unfortunately he let 2 men get on base, before the Reds called on Danny Graves to close things out. Graves did get 2 men, giving up 2 runs, before a long triple drove in the tying run. Crazily on the relay to 3rd, Lopez overthrew the ball allowing the Rockies to bring home the winning run.

Wasteful is the only word that sums up the Reds today, not the start required in this 10 game home stand.

Reds Talk:

Miley: "No Reds in the AllStar team? Something went wrong there"

Pena: "Im a bit too streaky. Consistency makes a good batter, and thats what i aim to be"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Freel - 2/4

Game 2: Colorado Rockies (37-53) @ Cincinnati Reds (34-55)

Reds Slump Continues!

game91.jpg

Above: Robertson is tossed after hitting 3 batters in 2innings, Right: Dunn's back on home run form

Colorado race away to win game 2 in Cincinnati with a simple 6-1 victory, as the Reds are held to just 5 hits in a drab effort all round.

The highlight of the game, was Robertson hitting 3 batters in 2 innings, eventually causing him to get tossed, before the Rockies bench floored him for his control issues.

After this the Reds didnt seem to respond to well, and where killed off in the 6th inning, as the Rockies put 4 runs on the board, including 2 homers of Brazoban.

Adam Dunn found some form again with his solo shot, but there was not enough about the Reds to suggest they could cause the Rockies any concern.

They will need a big performance to avoid a home series sweep in tomorrows final game.

Reds Talk:

Robertson: "I cant comment on the Umpire, but all the pitches were genuine, id never go out there to hurt any batter"

O'Brien (GM): "There will be a few changes soon, we have to deal, its just that simple"

Reds Notables:

Game 3: Colorado Rockies (38-53) @ Cincinnati Reds (34-56)

Reds Dont Lose!

game92.jpg

Above: Mercker gets a 'Rockie' save Right: Casey smiles, but will he be a Red much longer?

The Reds avoid the embarrasment of a home sweep, by sneaking game 3 4-2 thanks in no small part to Willys 17 incher, i mean 17th home run this year.

Pena drove in 3 runs with cries of 'Big Boy' echoing out of the commentry box. This put the Reds into a 4-0 lead which made sure Milton could finally pick up another win after a huge drought.

Mercker did look 'Rockie' on the mound, giving up a 2 run shot to Helton, before finally making sure that Colorado couldnt start an Avalanche of runs.

7 more games at home for the Reds, 4 against the Cubs, then 3 vs the Brewers, as in division matchups could give the Reds some respite in this tough year.

Reds Talk:

O'Brien (GM): "Can we trade Casey? Of course, i wouldnt rule out any Red moving in a trade this year"

Randa: "I dont get too many homers, so its nice to hit one in a win"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Reds Shuffle Their Pack!

In a busy day for the Cincinnati Front Office, the Reds saw 8 players leave their books, with 6 joining the ball club.

The biggest deal was cut with Detroit, as the Reds made their move to bring in a respected Setup Man, to help out in key situations.

The 5 player move looked like this:

DET send RP Ugueth Urbina & CF Nook Logan

CIN send RP Ryan Wagner, SP Ramon Ortiz & RF Austin Kearns

Comments on the trade from O'Brien:

"We needed to make a move, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the 3 players leaving the organisation are all unhappy and have under-performed. We feel that Ortiz was a bad pickup, so we are glad to shift his hefty salary. Austin has lost focus, and with Willy becoming a clutch player, we could afford to offload him and his potential salary demands. Finally Ryan should and could have been a star for this club, but he seems to have lost the instinct required to become a pivotal player in our Bullpen....."

"....Very happy with who we have bought in. Nook will give us some solid cover in the Outfield. He has bags of pace, and enough pop to become a dangerous player for us. Ugueth is a respected pitcher in the Bigs, and he will add some vital experience and talent to our wilting pitching staff. Its a good move for us, we barely took on any salary, and in the long term will save, with Ryan and Austin becoming costly FA's in the summer"

In other less high profile moves, the Reds added some Young Arms to their system with 2 more trades:

WAS send RP Gary Majewski & C John Wilson

CIN send RP Chris Booker & RP Rickey Stone

SEA send SP Travis Blackley & SP Brett Evert

CIN send RP Brian Shackleford, RP Todd Coffey & SP Tony Mounce

Notes:

Gary Majewski will Close in AAA Louisville.

Brett Evert will become the No. 4 Starter in AAA Louisville.

Travis Blackley will become LRP in the MLB Reds Bullpen.

Steve Kelly has been optioned to A Sarasota, and will become a Starter.

Upcoming Series - 4 Games Home vs Chicago Cubs

Game 1: Chicago Cubs (51-40) @ Cincinnati Reds (35-56)

Cubs Put Down!

game93.jpg

Above: Fielding saves the day for the Reds, as Casey and Wilson (Right) make huge stops to prevent a Cubs fightback

The Cubs came to the GABP expecting to walk over the struggling Reds. Unfortunately for them, they met a Reds team that is starting to build some serious chemistry, as they put the Cubs away 6-1.

Willy was the hero for the Reds, as he hit 2 'taters, driving in 4 runs, as the Reds raced into a 6-0 lead in the 7th inning.

Uggie Urbina came in to pitch his first ball as a Red, and soon found himself in a little hole, giving up 2 hits and a walk as the Cubs could only find 1 run off the new Red.

Graves was entrusted with the last inning, and he made sure the Reds held on to their 6-1 advantage, to take game 1 of this 4 game set against the Cubs.

Reds Talk:

Pena: "Its good to prove to people why im still here. Austin has been moved on, and thats because i can play"

Wilson: "Im happy to go 3 for 3 with the bat, but even happier to pitch 7 shut out innings"

Reds Notables:

Game 2: Chicago Cubs (51-41) @ Cincinnati Reds (36-56)

Reds Insist Cub Beating Is Humane!

game95.jpg

Above: 2 Cubs are caught attempting to nab home by LaRue, Right: 15 Saves for Danny Graves

Danny Graves still faced the wrath of the Reds fans, even though he made sure of his 15th Save of the year, as the Reds beat the Cubs 5-3 in a tense matchup.

Danny was booed from the minute he started to warm up, right up until his final pitch. The relationship he shares with the fans is really sour, and could soon backfire with severe consequences.

The game itself was a close one. The Reds had led 4-0 after a big first inning, which included Dunn jacking a 2 run shot. The Cubs then fought back, bringing the game to 4-3 in the 5th.

LaRue who stopped 2 Cubs at the plate, then drove in the 5th and decisive run for the Reds, as there was no more scoring from the 7th inning on.

Chicago will be looking for revenge in the final 2 games of the series, as these losses have seen them slip to 4GB of the Cardinals. Cincinnati remain 16GB.

Reds Talk:

Dunn: "The sooner Graves is shifted, the better it will be for this club"

Graves: "It will be funny to watch this team flap around next year without me to save them time and time again"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Freel - 2/4, 1RBI, 1 Double

Pena - 2/4, 1RBI

Dunn - 2/4, 1HR, 2RBI

Casey - 2/4

Game 3: Chicago Cubs (51-42) @ Cincinnati Reds (37-56)

Three'Peat!

game94.jpg

Above: Dunn hits a 2 run jack, bringing Pena home. Right: Urbina recovers from allowing 2 men OB, to close out the win

The Reds comeback to seal game 3, 6-4, but the real story is that Cubs SP Kerry Wood has suffered a fractured leg and will miss around 50 days of action, after getting hit by a drive from Dunn.

The loss of Wood set the Cubs back, as they gave up a 3 run shot to Griffey in the 7th inning, as the Reds cameback from a 4-2 defecit, to win 6-4 with a character building display.

Cincinnati put 15 hits on the board, as they continued to show their offensive power in this series, putting themselves just 1 win away from a unexpected 4 game sweep of the Cubs.

Reds Talk:

Miley: "Great performances by the team, this is a real turnaround for us"

Griffey: "I know how Kerry must feel, its a big blow to go down with an injury at this time of the year"

Reds Notables:

Hitting:

Lopez - 2/4, 1 Double

Jimenez - 3/4, 1RBI

Griffey - 2/4, 1HR, 3RBI

Dunn - 2/4, 1HR, 2RBI

Cincinnati Reds Trade News:

With the Reds in a rebuilding phase, another trade deal was completed after the Angels contacted the Reds Front Office looking to deal.

The Angels had offered 1B Casey Kotchman to the Reds, but O'Brien wanted to expand the deal, leaving the final outcome as follows:

ANA send 1B Casey Kotchman & RP Esteban Yan

CIN send 1B Joey Votto, 2B Luis Lopez & RP Phil Dumatrait

This move sees the Reds acquire another one of Baseballs brightest prospects, as Kotchman will learn alot from Sean Casey. Initially he will start at 1B for AAA Louisville, as the Reds have put experienced RP Esteban Yan into their Bullpen as MRP.

Yan "Its a good move for me, i was stuck with the Angels AAA team, so i feel good that i can pitch in the Majors again"

O'Brien "Its another deal for us to trim a small amount of salary, but to also add more talent that can be useful to us immediately. Esteban is a good arm for us to use in the Bullpen, making our pitching staff look stronger than ever.

MLB Trade News:

In a surprise move, the St. Louis Cardinals sent C Yadier Molina to Colorado for LF Matt Holliday. Molina is considered one of the games future stars in the Catchers spot, leaving many punidts asking why would the Cardinals cut this deal.
