Above: Freel goes 2 for 4, continuing his solid record, Right: Pena strikes out as hes in a mini slump! 7 straight defeats now for the Reds, as they fell 6-3 at Miller Park to the high flying Brewers. The Reds only managed 5 hits, 2 of those went for homers, as Griffey (30) and Dunn (31) added to their respective totals. On the mound for the Reds, Robertson again struggled to last much longer than 5 innings, as he gave up 9 hits and 6 runs to the Brewers offence. A plus point was the pitching of Majewski who went 2.2IP giving up just 1 hit, as he settled in nicely. Reds Talk: Robertson: "Im stuggling to hit locations at the moment. Its something for me to work on" Griffey: "Next year is a big one for us. Lual
Game 2: Cincinnati Reds (46-69) @ Milwaukee Brewers (61-55) Reds Back On Track! Above: Randa keeps up his consistent performances, Right: Griffey goes yard again, thats 532 in a glorious career! The Reds losing streak was snapped with a hard working victory over the Brewers, as they put 13 hits on the board to win 7-3. Milwaukee had lead 3-1 in the 4th inning, before the Reds put on 5 runs in the 5th, including a 3 run jack by Griffey to take a 6-3 lead. Willingham then drove in another run to add some insurance to the scoreline for the Reds, as they held out from there on to win 7-3. Milton picked up his 12th win of the campaign, though he did look shaky through the first 4 innings. Urbina also came in to pitch 0.2I to keep his arm in order, as the Reds made sure there was to be no comeback from the Brewers. Tomorrows rubber match gives the Reds a chance to snatch a rare road series win. Reds Talk: Freel: "Im hoping these performances will earn me a new deal. Im enjoying getting all this playing time" Urbina: "Its good for me to keep my arm in shape. Lual
Game 3: Cincinnati Reds (47-69) @ Milwaukee Brewers (61-56) Blackley Steps Up! Above: Miley calls for Blackley (Right) to step in, and he wouldnt regret the decision! The Reds took the series with a 3-1 win, but at a cost as Starter Paul Wilson was carried off after 2.1IP with a Hernia, putting an end to his season and possibly career. This gave a chance to Travis Blackley to pitch longer, and he came through 6.1I giving up just 2 hits as he made sure the Brewers didnt comeback. Willy Mo Pena provided the main point of offence for the Reds with his 2 run shot in the 1st inning. This was added to by Freel who rounded the bases on an Inside the Park Homer, which was ruled an error due to an overthrow at home plate. Wilsons injury means the Reds will reshuffle their rotation for the upcoming home series against the San Francisco Giants. Reds Talk: Miley: "Everyones choked for Paul. Hes been solid for us, so to see him go out with that type of injury is a blow to the whole Ball Club" Wilson: "Im done for the year, possibly longer. Whether the Reds want me around next year is now out of my hands" Reds Notables: Hitting: Griffey - 2/4 Pena - 1/4, 1HR, 2RBI Pitching: Wilson - 2.1I 2H 1R 1ER 0BB 1K 0HR 3.91ERA Mercker - 0.1I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 5.27ERA W(2-6) Blackley - 6.1I 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 1.25ERA Box: R H E CIN 3 5 0 MIL 1 5
Lual
Cincinnati Reds News: Miley Given Chance! Reds Manager Dave Miley (Pictured Above) was delighted after a meeting with the Front Office today, as it was announced he would be staying on for another year with the Reds. There where rumours circulating that Miley may be given the push due to the poor position of the team this season, but those have now been laid to rest after this announcement. Miley was quoted as saying: "Its great to hear that the Club still want me here in charge of the team. We are starting to turn things around, and given a good off-season, we should be good to go for a Playoff place next year" GM Dan O'Brien: "Dave is a Red at heart, and although we have suffered a tough season, there are signs that we can rebuild and come back stronger next year. Baseball clubs are built on consistency, if we moved Dave on, we could easily find ourselves facing similar issues next year" Reds fans may be split after hearing this decision, but one thing for sure, is that the players will be fully behind Miley and his Staff, as they attempt to finish this year on a high. Lual
Roster News: With Paul Wilson now on the DL and out for the season, the Reds have reshuffled their lineup to suit. Travis Blackley will move into the Starting Rotation, sooner than expected, and will pitch in the number 4 slot. This has left a spot in the Bullpen open, and another ex-Tacoma player has been assigned to the Majors to fill in. Brett Evert with a 3-2(W/L) 3.97ERA 23K record in AAA Louisville, will become the LRP for the Reds. Upcoming Series - 4 Games Home vs San Francisco Giants Game 1: San Francisco Giants (56-60) @ Cincinnati Reds (48-69) Fallen Giants! Above: Harang shows how not to field, and fractures his toe, Right: Griffey shows how to bat, driving in 2 runs! For the 2nd straight game, the Reds impressive display will be overshadowed by yet another injury to 1 of their starters. This time Aaron Harang was drilled in the foot by a liner up the middle, fracturing his toe and ruling him out for around a month. This is desperate news for the Reds, who have only just lost Paul Wilson for the season with a Hernia injury. After seeing Harang carried off, the Reds went wild and put up 19 hits, racing away to a 12-3 win over the Giants in arguably their best performance of the season. Randa and Willingham both stepped up with 3RBIs each, as the Reds hitters enjoyed some stat padding off the poor Giants pitching effort. The loss of Harang will likely signal the move of Brett Evert to the Starting Rotation, as the Reds will now patch up their staff to see them through to the end of the season. Reds Talk: Miley: "This type of performance has been coming for a while. We have always been capable of busting out with big numbers, the Giants just got unlucky that we chose them" Harang: "Gutted, its a huge blow. This is my 2nd injury of the year, ill miss about 1 months worth of action, so will be lucky to pitch 2 or 3 more times this year" Reds Notables: Hitting: Freel - 2/5 Griffey - 2/4, 2RBI Dunn - 3/5, 2RBI, 1 Double Casey - 3/3 Randa - 3/4, 3RBI, 1 Double Willingham - 3/5, 3RBI Pena - 1/5, 1HR, 1RBI Pitching: Harang - 0.1I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 2.95ERA Mercker - 1.2I 0H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 5.11ERA W(3-6) Dominguez - 4I 2H 2R 2ER 1BB 4K 1HR 4.47ERA Brazoban - 2I 3H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 3.76ERA Yan - 1I 1H 1R 1ER 0BB 0K 1HR 3.22ERA Box: R H E SF 3 7 4 CIN 12 19
Lual
Roster News: With Harang joining Wilson on the Disabled List, the Reds have re-adjusted their staff to reflect his loss. Firstly, Brett Evert will become a Starter, joining Milton, Claussen, Blackley and Robertson, in one of the MLBs most inexperienced lineup of starters. Called up to the Majors is RP Bubba Nelson. Bubba has been a revelation as a Closer for the Chattanooga Lookouts in AA, so will have a chance to adjust to the Bigs, as a MRP. Bubba's Stats: 43.2IP 1-2(W/L) 2.47ERA 31Sv 41K Game 2: San Francisco Giants (56-61) @ Cincinnati Reds (49-69) No Injuries, And A Win! Above: Casey makes a clutch play at 1st, Right: Lopez hits a rare homerun this year! The Reds took their winning streak to 4 games after a low hitting game, ended 6-2 in their favour. Cincinnati relied on homeruns to clinch the victory, as Dunn hit 2 (Taking him to 151 Career) and Lopez a 3 run shot, as the Reds took charge with a 6-1 lead in the 6th inning. There was no real response from the Giatns, bar a Bonds jack in the 8th to pull the score to 6-2. And that was that, Urbina had a clean 9th inning, as Claussen who pitched 7 solid innings, was credited with his 7th win of the year, Tomko was awarded the loss for the Giants. 2 more left in this series, the Reds will enjoy themselves and look for a series win. Reds Talk: Dunn: "Its nice to get to 150 Homeruns in my career" Claussen: "I was semi expecting to get knocked out, given the jinx run for our Starters at the moment" Reds Notables: Hitting: Lopez - 3/4, 1HR, 3RBI, 1 Double Dunn - 2/3, 2HR, 2RBI Freel - 1/3, 1RBI, 1 Triple Pitching: Claussen - 7I 4H 1R 1ER 1BB 1K 1HR 3.38ERA W(7-5) Yan - 1I 1H 1R 1ER 0BB 0K 1HR 3.38ERA Urbina - 1I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 2.56ERA Box: R H E SF 2 6 0 CIN 6 7
Lual
Game 3: San Francisco Giants (56-62) @ Cincinnati Reds (50-69) Bonds Helps Giants To Win! Above: Blackley shows encouraging signs in his 1st start, Right: Casey and Pena are not happy with their efforts today! Barry Bonds inspired the Giants to take game 3 against the Reds, as San Fran' kept their slender NL West Pennant hopes alive. The game was always close, as the pitchers duelled it out, keeping both offenses under wraps. Unfortunately for the Reds and their young pitcher Blackley, it was Barry Bonds who started things rolling with a solo shot in the 4th, to put the Giants on their way to victory. Bonds then drove in the 3rd run in the 7th inning, as the Giants clinched a 3-0 win against the 6 hit Reds. 1 more left for these 2, before the Reds end their homestand with 3 against the Diamondbacks, before a 13 game roadtrip takes them into August. Reds Talk: Miley: "We are along way from a .500 season, we are looking at .450 and hopefully overtaking the Pirates in the Central" Blackley: "Not the result i wanted, but the Skip said he was pleased that i went 7 innings" Reds Notables: Hitting: Dunn - 2/4 Randa - 2/4 Pitching: Blackley - 7I 9H 3R 3ER 2BB 3K 0HR 2.05ERA L(1-1) Mercker - 2I 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 4.94ERA Box: R H E SF 3 11 1 CIN 0 6
Lual
Game 4: San Francisco Giants (57-62) @ Cincinnati Reds (50-70) Logans Run's'! Above: Nook hits a dinger and a double, to drive in 5 runs! The Reds sealed a well earned 3-1 series win over the Giants, as they crushed their guests 7-0 with a 18 hit haul. Nook Logan was the main artist in the group, as he hit his 1st dinger as a Red, as well as going 4/5 putting up 5RBIs. As a team the Reds rattled together 18 hits, as the 'backups' stepped in and showed they could all play. Robertson is starting to get his act together on the mound, going 6 shutout innings, as he now holds a more respectable 4-6(W/L) record. Add to that, Bubba Nelson came through his first inning in the Majors unscathed, and Majewski also shut the Giants out for 2 innings. With a 51-70 record, the Reds will hope they can at worst, go .500 in their remaining games to leave them with some respect to carry into the off-season. Reds Talk: Nelson: "It was a nice easy entrance into Big League pitching. Im happy with how it went, and look forward to some more" Logan: "Thats what i can do when im given a chance. I will produce for the Reds, i love playing here" Reds Notables: Hitting: Aurilia - 3/5 Jimenez - 3/5, 1RBI Logan - 4/5, 1HR, 5RBI, 1 Double LaRue - 2/4 Robertson - 2/2 Randa - 1/4, 1RBI, 1 Double Pitching: Robertson - 6I 6H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 4.35ERA W(4-6) Nelson - 1I 0H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 0.00ERA Majewski - 2I 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 7.36ERA Box: R H E SF 0 8 1 CIN 7 18
Lual
Upcoming Series - 3 Games Home vs Arizona Diamondbacks Game 1: Arizona Diamondbacks (58-64) @ Cincinnati Reds (51-70) Rattled' Snakes! Above: Lopez busts for home but falls just short. Right: Griffey now has 32 jacks this year! The Reds snapped up a handsome 6-1 win over the DBacks coming back from a 1-0 2nd inning defecit. Joe Randa is likely to occupy the headlines in Cincinnati, not for his performance, but for his fractured arm, as he tried to break up a double play in the 7th inning. This injury leaves Joes career in doubt, and is a shock for the whole ball club, as 'Pops' is a key member of the Reds locker room. The Reds runs came via a 2 run bomb from Griffey, his 32nd of the year. As well as Lopez, Dunn, Pena and an error all adding to the Reds total for a sound win. Milton wrapped up his 12th win of the year, by going all 9 innings. Remarkably he failed to get a strikeout, as the Arizona batters where free swinging in their attempts to over turn the Reds lead. Reds Talk: Miley: "Everyones shocked that Joes gone down with that injury. We have been hit hard in recent weeks with injuries, its just one of those things" Randa: "Its heartbreaking to get this injury. It jepordises my whole career, as my arm is my tool" Reds Notables: Hitting: Lopez - 2/4, 1RBI, 1 Double Freel - 2/5, 1 Double Griffey - 2/4, 1HR, 2RBI Pena & Dunn - 1RBI Pitching: Milton - 9I 8H 1R 1ER 0BB 0K 1HR 4.95ERA W(12-9) Box: R H E ARI 1 8 1 CIN 6 12

Lual
Roster News: With Joe Randa now ruled out for the season, the Reds have made a couple of moves to fill their MLB Roster. Firstly, Edwin Encarnacion will start at 3B for the Reds until the end of the season. This gives one of the brightest talents in the game, a chance to show himself on the big stage. Secondly, to replace Randas roster place, the Reds have called up 1B Casey Kotchman from AAA Louisville. Kotchman will have a chance to learn a trade, by platooning at 1B with the experienced Sean Casey. Kotchman's Stats: AAA - .376Avg / 2HR / 10RBI Game 2: Arizona Diamondbacks (58-65) @ Cincinnati Reds (52-70) Reds Win Again! Above: Lopez makes a huge diving 'run-saving' grab. Right: Casey celebrates a rare home run! Arizona fell away in game 2, losing 7-4 even after a late revival which saw them fight back from a 7-0 scoreline. Casey and Dunn where the main providers for the Reds, combining for 5RBIs with their bombs. The Reds managed to put up some solid offensive numbers, to give young starter Brett Evert all the backup he needed. Evert would see 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and just 1 run, as he put on a solid showing coming through some tight spots. The Reds will hope to sweep the DBacks and further enhance their chances to actually have a winning month this season. Reds Talk: Evert: "Delighted to have pitched so well, it was a tough 6 innings, but i got through some tough spots and the coaches are pleased with that showing" Casey: "Its time for me to produce, now i have some competition at 1st" Reds Notables: Hitting: Freel - 3/4, 1RBI Griffey - 2/4, 1 Double Dunn - 1/4, 1HR, 3RBI Casey - 2/4, 1HR, 2RBI, 1 Double LaRue - 2/4 Pitching: Evert - 6I 7H 1R 1ER 1BB 3K 0HR 1.50ERA W(1-0) Mercker - 1I 4H 1R 1ER 0BB 1K 0HR 5.01ERA Yan - 2I 2H 2R 2ER 0BB 1K 1HR 3.66ERA Box: R H E ARI 4 13 3 CIN 7 11

Lual
Game 3: Arizona Diamondbacks (58-66) @ Cincinnati Reds (53-70) Swept Away! Above: Logan cracks a jack, Right: Casey is pulled of the base, but manages to end the game with a tag! Sean Casey proved to be a hero in the field, as he clung on to a wild throw, before tagging the runner at 1st to ensure the Reds survived a bases loaded, 9th inning scare. Arizona had raced into a 3-0 1st inning lead, only to see Nook Logan hit a 2 run jack in the bottom of the inning to tie it 3-3. The teams then swopped runs, as the game headed into the 7th at 4-4. Griffey stepped up for the Reds, as he drove in the winning run in the 7th. But it was the 9th inning that provided the most excitement. Urbina came in to get the save, he got 1 out, before the bases became loaded on 2 hits and an error. Urbina had to remain calm, and he forced the batter to hit into a supposed routine double play. Alas a hard slide forced Lopez' throw to 1st of target, leaving Casey needing to work his magic. This sweep puts the Reds at 11-8 for the month, and moves them above the Pirates in the battle at the foot of the NL Central. Reds Talk: Casey: "I knew i had to make a play, the throw was off the base, so i grabbed it and managed to tag the runner to seal the win" Urbina: "Phew, it really is. Loading the bases with 1 out is a sure fire way to blow the save. Thankfully we got the Double Play with some great fielding by Sean" Reds Notables: Hitting: Freel - 2/4, 1RBI Griffey - 2/4, 2RBI, 1 Double Logan - 3/4, 1HR, 2RBI Encarnacion - 2/4 LaRue - 2/4, 1 Double Pitching: Claussen - 6I 12H 4R 4ER 1BB 1K 3HR 3.48ERA Brazoban - 1I 1H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 3.70ERA W(4-3) Nelson - 1I 0H 0R 0ER 0BB 0K 0HR 0.00ERA Urbina - 1I 2H 0R 0ER 0BB 1K 0HR 2.53ERA (Save 7) Box: R H E ARI 4 15 1 CIN 5 12
