kevattac
Nice job goose, I have been reading. Are you glad you went through a year with this franchise so that you might know the odds and ins of it (i.e. who has great potential, how some guy should be in aaa instead of aa, etc.)? What do you like/not like in comparison to your last effort?

What do you like/not like in comparison to your last effort? Well the pitching last year was better than what this ballclub has(i.e Jorge Sosa instead of Hideo Nomo) but I think the offense is alot better on this club and the bench is alot deeper. Last season I felt like my entire pitching staff had to be almost pefect(and they were) in order to win games, to where this team I feel like this team has come back at any time and put runs on the board. Thanks for reading :wtg: I didn't think anybody was reading this :duh:

goose
Devil Rays and the Playoffs? Like what you don't here. =D Yeh tell me about it, although if Pinella managed the way I do, and if Hendrickson were really this good, they would be in the playoff hunt in real life as well. My speed guys(Crawford,Baldelli,Gathright,Lugo,Upton, and Sanchez) get on base at an average rate. But almost everytime they get on base I run.Prolly about 90% of the time I run, and I make it about 85% of the time.So essentially every single or walk by those 6 guys is a double. Add to that with Hendrickson being an absolute beast and this team is hard to beat. Without the pitching and the speed I think this club would be a .500 team at best. goose
Scott Kazmir finally looks like he may be turning it around and is finally winning with some consistincy. He has now won 4 straight decisions and against the Angels he had not only his best game of the year, but one of the best of any D-Ray pitcher. His line: 9.0 IP 3 H 0 ER 0 BB 9 K CGSO The Devil Rays won 10-0.
goose
Rocco Baldelli had a horrible game against the Orioles going 0-6 with 5 strikeouts! The Devil Rays did win though in 14 innings 2-1 thanks to a Huff Homer. The Red Sox have won 7 in a row and remain a half game ahead of the Devil Rays. The very next game Baldelli went 0-4 with 2 k's. 0-10 with 7k's over two days! Ouch! :eew:
goose
Hit back to back homers for the first time this year. Aubrey Huff his his 20th of the season, a three run shot against the Indians.Hee-Seop Choi followed that up with a solo shot of his own. His 9th of the year and second as a Devil Ray.Choi went 3-4 with 2 RBI's.He was a triple away from the cycle. D-Rays won 6-3. The Red Sox have now won 9 in a row and are now a full game ahead of the D-Rays.
goose
Made a couple of roster moves. First demoted B.J Upton to AAA.I gave up one last shot against Cleveland and he went 0-4 with 2 k's and an error that cost a run.He was batting .193 with 3 RBI when he was demoted. As a result I called up 2B Brian Badeaux.Brian was hitting .299 with 8 homers and 40 rbi's for AAA Durham. Brian will be mainly a pinch hitter and will compete with Gomes on who gets to stay after Sanchez comes back in 6 days. And last but not least, after asking for an extension for 3 weeks since arriving in Tampa Bay I granted it. Hee-Seop Choi was signed to a 3 year deal at 600k per year. He is batting .328 with 9 homers and 41 RBI's.
goose
Alex Sanchez finally came off the DL today. To make room I sent Jhonny Gomes, who was batting .237, back down to AAA and sent Kevin Cash down to AA.
goose
The Devil Rays have lost back to back games to the Yankees in front of two sellout crowds. Brian Badauex came in to play 2nd in the 2nd game.He reached on a Derek Jeter error on his first AB.Choi singled so Badauex went to third and procided to pull his groin.Just like Nick Green. His is out for a week. Choi's average is now .330 after going 6-8 in the two games against the Yanks.

goose
With a series loss to the Rangers and a 7-0 win over the Indians, the Devil Rays are now 10-9 in August. They are going to need to win 8 out of their next 9 to get 18 wins again this month. They are now 3 games back of the Sox. With Choi returning in the Indian game(and going 1-3) and Badeaux coming off the DL after the game was over, the D-Rays are fully healthy for the first time since the begginning of July. :wtg:

goose
Well the Red Sox series ended up being a 4 games series, and the D-Rays won game 4 as well 5-0 on a masterful pitching performance by Rob Bell.A CGSO with 5 k's in what was his best performance in almost a month and a half. With the win the Devil Rays pull in a virtuial tie for first place with the Red Sox holding a slight percentage lead (.654 to .652). Hee-Seop Choi pulled his hamstring muscle during the 4th inning.Doctors say its not serious and he can play tommorow. But I've opted to give him the day off just in case. goose
After back to back 1 run losses to the Yankees, the D-rays are now 2 games back of the sox and are 3-3 in September. Their magic number to reach the playoffs is now 10 with 20 games remaining. They way they have played during the last 5 weeks, it doesnt look like they are going to win the division, and with the Yankees on the verge of sweeping the Rays, they are going to have to step it up just to win the wildcard. They have one more series againt the Yankees next week at home, and one more series against the Red Sox. goose
After being swept by the Yankees, the Devil Rays bounce back and sweep the Blue Jays thanks to a Carl Crawford walk off two run bomb in game 3.It was only Crawfords 6th homer of the year and only the D-Rays second walk off.The other being Aubrey Huff's solo homer against the Orioles. Now the Yankees come into town for a three game series and the last between the two teams. At 13.5 games back of the Devil Rays in the wildcard with 19 left to play, the Yankees are looking to extend their slim playoff hopes, while the D-Rays look to drive a steak into the Bronx Bombers hearts and finish them off for good. goose
Took two out of three from the Yankees, Game 3 was sold out.Hendrickson won his 18th game of the year tying a career high from last year with 3 more starts left. The Devil Rays magic number to clinch a playoff spot is now 1.5 and they are 2.5 back of the Sox with about 14 to play. They ended the home stand and -574k and came close to getting in the green.I expect them to rake in the money in the playoffs. Also they are 33-20 so far in the second half. goose
The Devil Rays are going to the playoffs for the second straight year! :wtg: A 8-6 Yankee loss combined with a 4-3 Devil Rays win over the Orioles clinched at the very least, the wildcard for Tampa Bay.And it was a battle too, as the the Orioles had runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and Larry Bigbe up.Bigbe had an 18 pitch At bat with Danny Baez before finally lining out to end it.18 pitches in one AB, amazing! So now the D-Rays are going to the playoffs, the question now is wheather it will be as the Wildcard, or as Division champions. The D-Rays are currently 1.5 games back of the Red Sox with 14 games left to play. A look at other races around baseball. Al Central: The Twins are on top looking for their 4th straight division crown and their magic number is 4.5 AL West: The AL West is the tightest division in baseball at the moment. A's: 74-73 Rangers:72-76 2.5 Angles:71-76 3.0 M's:65-82 9.0 NL East: The Nationals are looking for their first division title and their magic number is 8.0 over the Marlins AL:Central The Cubs are looking to get back into the postseason and they are ahead of the Cardinals. 6.5 is their number AL West: The Padres are in a close race with the Dodgers, their number is 9.5 NL Wildcard: And the Dodgers are looking for the wildcard over the Marlins.Their number to clinch is 8.
