Spivey11
Two Straight is Great (Above: Werth hits 2 run homer to seal a Dodger win, Right: Gagne records his 10th save on the year.) The Dodgers have made the month of June, even though there's only been two games, a complete turn-around from May. Shutting out their opponent in both games, they have now won two in a row for the first time since fire was discovered. The Dodgers opened up their scoring tonight in the third inning, with Hee-Seop Choi driving in pitcher Jeff Weaver to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. And in the fifth, Weaver lead the inning off with a single off the wall and Jayson Werth followed that with a two-run homer, his first off a right handed pitcher this year. This put the Dodgers up 3-0, a very respectable lead. Weaver pitched very well tonight, going eight innings while allowing only four hits and he struck out eight Brewers. He also brought his ERA back down below 1.00 to 0.95. And in the ninth, it was all over - as Eric Gagne set the Brew Crew down 1-2-3 to record his tenth save on the year. Team Injury: Jeff Kent has suffered a hernia and will be out for about a month. Pete Orr and Antonio Perez will be platooning at second until Kent returns to the lineup. five
Team Injury: Jeff Kent has suffered a hernia and will be out for about a month. Bagwell gets a hernia and is out for a year, Kent gets one and is out for a month. Erg. Also, did you have to drop it down to Pro or something? Spivey11
Also, did you have to drop it down to Pro or something? Now why in the heck would I do that? I've just finally started to get hits with runners on base. I've always had a fair amount of hits in every game, I just wasn't able to get hits with runners in scoring position. And in the last two games, I have.
Spivey11
Washburn Waxed (Above: Spivey hits solo homer to give the Brewers their first run, Right: Phillips hits his second homer on the year to make it a one run game.) The Dodgers' winning streak is snapped at two, now you might say that's a very modest streak - but any winning streak for the Dodgers is great. And now Los Angeles and Milwalkee will face off in an afternoon game tomorrow, which will be the rubber match in this series. The Brewers scored early and held on to their lead all game. As they scored one in the second on a solo jack by Junior Spivey, his fourth on the year. They scored again in the third, on a RBI double by Lyle Overbay. The Dodgers' lone run would be scored in the sixth, on a solo homer by Jason Phillips, his second on the year. Jarrod Washburn didn't pitch all that badly tonight, he just had a shakey start. As he went eight innings, allowing only two runs on six hits while striking out five. But, Gary Glover pitched just a scosh bettter - going seven innings allowing only one run on four hits, while striking out seven. Dodgers: 24-30 Brewers: 27-27 Hitting Notables: J. Spivey11
Choi Kills Brewers (Above: Choi drives in all 3 runs today for the Dodgers, Right: Orr streches a single into a double.) Hee-Seop Choi was feeling it today, as he provided most of the Dodgers' offense and drove in all of their runs. This win assured the Dodgers that they would tie the Brewers in the four game series that they are playing. The Dodgers scored one run in the first, as Jayson Werth lead off the game with a walk, and then was driven in by Choi for his first RBI of the day. Choi would then drive in Pete Orr in the fourth, and J. D. Drew in the eighth. Scott Erickson pitched a gem today for the Dodgers, going six innings while only giving up six hits and he struck out two. And in the ninth, the Brewers had no chance, as Gagne struck out the side to record his eleventh save on the year. Dodgers: 25-30 Brewers: 27-28 Hitting Notables: H. Choi: 2-3, 3 RBI P. Spivey11
Dodger Win Series (Above: Grabowski makes the perfect slide to avoid tag at the plate, Right: Gagne pumped after his 12th save and 3rd in the series.) It looks as if the Dodgers are starting to come around after their losing woes in May. As they were able to beat Milwalkee today 2-0 and win their first series since they won three out of four in St. Louis. "I'm pleased with the way our young guys are playing. They're doing very well for us in our time of need." This coming from the manager of the Dodgers, Jim Tracy. The Dodgers scored all of their runs in the fifth inning, with Pete Orr driving in Jason Grabowski from second. They're other run was scored by pitcher Derek Lowe, who was driven in on a J. D. Drew double. Lowe pitched quite the ballgame today, going seven innings while only surrendering four hits and he struck out six. Gagne continued to be lights out, as he set down the Brewers 1-2-3 with two Ks. Dodgers: 26-30 Brewers: 27-29 Hitting Notables: J. Drew: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 1 SF J. Flores: 2-4 L. Spivey11
Choi Comes Through Again (Above: Werth hits a double then scores the only run, Right: Perez strikes out 10 Tigers in tonight's game.) Choi has become the regular beast in Dodger town these days. As he went 2-3 today and he drove in the only run for the Dodgers tonight. Odalis Perez was the reason that the Dodgers were able to win this game. As he went eight innings, giving up only five hits while striking out ten Tigers. Jeremy Bonderman continued to be unimpressive, as he lost his tenth game on the year. Dodgers: 27-30 Tigers: 24-32 Hitting Notables: H. Choi: 2-3, 1 RBI F. Vina: 1-2, 1 BB Pitching Notables: O. Spivey11
Drew Homers in Dodger Win (Above: The Dodgers' first basemen have been quality all year, Right: Drew hits his fifth homer on the year in the sixth.) The Dodgers have put together an impressive run lately. As they haven't lost in four straight games, and they've gotten awesome pitching that allows little offense to win games. And that's exactly what Jeff Weaver did today, going eight innings while only giving up three hits and he struck out eight. In the third, Ricky Ledee lead off the inning with a double, and after the next two batters recorded outs, Olmedo Saenz drove him in with a RBI single to left. This would be all that the Dodgers would need, but they wanted to add a little more insurance - with J. D. Drew hitting a solo jack in the sixth to put them up 2-0. "I'm very pleased right now. I feel that it took our young guys a little while to adjust to playing in the majors everyday. Now, they're comfortable playing, and it shows." - Jim Tracy on how his young players have adjusted to the major league life. Dodgers: 28-30 Tigers: 24-33 Hitting Notables: J. Spivey11
Dodgers Can't Sweep (Above: Pena hits solo homer to keep the Tigers from being swept, Right: Marte grounds into a double-play to end the game.) The Tigers were only able to muster three hits off Washburn today, but one of those three was a solo homer by Carlos Pena. With that one run, Jason Johnson was able to roll, going eight complete innings, allowing only five hits while striking out only one. The Dodgers' five hits came from five different players, with only one extra base hit, a double by Pete Orr. They were able to only get multiple hits in one inning, which was the third. With Andy Marte and Jose Flores getting back-to-back singles. Dodgers: 28-31 Tigers: 25-33 Hitting Notables: P. Orr: 1-4, 1 2B C. Pena: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 Run, 1 HR(7) Pitching Notables: J. (Above: Ledee drives in the only run of the game, Right: Drew robs an extra base hit from Hunter that would've brought in a run.) Britt Reames was steallar in his first start with the Dodgers this year. Going six plus innings, allowing only six hits and no runs while striking out four Twins. "It felt good, I mean this is what I want to eventually become - a starter in the Dodgers' rotation." The only run that was scored in the game was driven in by Ricky Ledee in the second. This would be all that the Dodgers' pitching staff would need, as they shutout the Twins, which is no small task! Gagne recorded his 15th save in tonight's game, an inning in which he struck out two.
