Spivey11
Dodgers Single Their Way to Win (Above: Crawford drives in 2 with a RBI single in second, Right: Drew throws out Klesko to keep the Dodgers ahead.) Tonight's game looked as if it was going to be a slugfest, with the Dodgers scoring three and the Padres scoring two in the first two innings. But this would be all that each team would score, giving the Dodgers a crucial win over the NL West leading Padres. Carl Crawford lead off the game right, with a single to right field. He then proceeded to steal second and third, and he scored the first run of the game on a J. D. Drew RBI single. The Dodgers would score two more in the second, on a Crawford 2-RBI single driving in Jason Grabowski and Jason Phillips. But the Padres would try and come back in the bottom of the second, with solo homers by Ryan Klesko and Eric Young. Klesko continued to murder Dodgers pitching, going 3-4 with a homer and a double. Spivey11
Lowe Beats Padres (Above: Lowe helps himself out with a RBI double, Right: Drew takes away a hit to end the game with a diving catch.) Two in a row over the San Diego Padres is a major feat that the Dodgers have accomplished for the first time this year with their 5-3 win tonight. Derek Lowe pitched a gem tonight, with only one blimish - a 2 run homer to Khalil Greene in the second. Other than that, he was nearly perfect - allowing only four hits. Carl Crawford lead off the game with a single and then he was able to steal his 34 base on the year. Crawford scored on a RBI single by J. D. Drew to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. The Padres would quickly respond, though, with a two-run homer off the bat of Khalil Greene that gave the Padres a 2-1 lead after two innings. But in the fifth, the Dodgers would take the lead for good. Scoring two runs on RBIs by Antonio Perez and Derek Lowe to put the Dodgers up 3-2 through five innings. Two more runs would cross the plate in favor of the Dodgers in the eighth on RBIs by Dioner Navarro and pinch hitter Ricky Ledee. The Padres would try to mount a comeback in the ninth, getting four hits and one run, but Eric Gagne would stay strong and get through the rough patch to record his 20th save on the year. Spivey11
Dodgers Win in Thirteen Above: Young ties the game in the 8th with a solo jack, Right: Werth hits his second homer in the game to give the Dodgers the win in the 13th.) Today’s game started out exactly like most Dodger games have started out this series, with Carl Crawford reaching first and then stealing second. He was then driven in by Jayson Werth to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. The Dodgers would score again in the second, this time on a solo homer off the bat of Werth, his tenth on the year. In the bottom of that inning, the Padres would score their first run of the day on a solo homer from the pitcher Adam Eaton. This cut the Dodgers’ lead in half, 2-1. But they would quickly respond with another run in the fourth on a RBI single by Andy Marte, bringing in J. D. Drew to increase the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1. In the sixth, the Padres would put another run on the board on a RBI single by lead-off man Mark Loretta which cut down the Dodgers’ lead to a miniscule one run, 3-2. And In the eighth, Eric Young would tie the game up with a solo jack off Britt Reames. The game would remain scoreless until the thirteenth inning when Werth would hit his second homer of the game, eleventh on the year, which gave the Dodgers a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Eric Gagne was brought in to close out the game, and he would do nothing less than that, giving the Dodgers their third straight win over the Padres. Spivey11
Hey Ricky, You’re So Fine (Above: Werth robs Anderson of homer in the 7th, Right: Perez scores the go ahead run in the 9th.) Tonight’s game started out in the usual fashion, with Carl Crawford scoring the lone run in the first inning. But Crawford did mix things up a bit, leading off the game with a triple to right center. Pete Orr batted second in tonight’s game and drove in Carl with a single to left. The Angels would tie the game up in the third on a Steve Finley RBI single. He drove in Vladimir Guerrero, who lead off the inning with a triple. Guerrero did get help on that triple when Jayson Werth dove for the unreachable ball and it went to the wall. The game would remain scoreless until the ninth inning. And in the ninth, Antonio Perez would lead off the inning with a ground-rule double to left field. He would then advance to third on a ground ball to second off the bat of Andy Marte. Ricky Ledee would proceed to hit a sacrifice fly to Guerrero that barely brought Perez in to score the go ahead and eventual winning run. Dodgers: 39-34 Angels: 30-42 Hitting Notables: C. Spivey11
Penny Gets Revenge (Above: Guerrero slides in for the go-ahead run in the fifth, Right: Anderson robs Marte of a homer in the eighth.) Amazingly the Dodgers didn't score in the first inning of tonight's game, but they did score in the second. With Hee-Seop Choi leading off the inning with a double down the left field line. He would advance to third on a ground out to second, and then score on a sacrifice fly by Dioner Navarro. The Angles wouldn't trail in this game for long, with Juan Rivera scoring on a RBI single by Orlando Cabrera to tie the game at 1-1. The tie would be broken in the fifth by the bad guys, with Vladimir Guerrero scoring on a Garrett Anderson RBI single. Brad Penny got his revenge tonight, going seven strong innings, allowing only one run on seven hits while striking out four Dodgers. Jarrod Washburn, on the other hand, didn't do too hot against his former team. Going only five innings, allowing two runs on eleven hits while striking out five. Spivey11
Lovely Lackey (Above: Lackey dominated the Dodgers tonight for 7+ innings, Right: Rivera topped off the Halo's scoring with homer.) I can undoubtedly say that the Los Angeles Dodgers are happy that they don't have to play the Angels anymore this year. In the six interleague games that they had against their cross-town rival, they were only able to muster out one win. The Angels scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI sinlge by Darren Erstad, driving in Chone Figgins. They would score again in the fifth, one run on a throwing error by Jose Flores allowing Garret Anderson to score and the other on a Benji Molina RBI single bringing in Dallas McPherson. The scoring would stop there, as Vladimir Guerrero would score on a RBI from Anderson. The Dodgers would end the shutout in the top of the eighth as Ricky Ledee would drive in Pete Orr with a sac-fly to center. But, the Angles would quickly counter that with a two run homer off the bat of Juan Rivera. In the ninth, the Dodgers would score their second run of the game on a RBI double by Dioner Navarro. But that would be all that they would score, as the Angels would take the series 2-1 with a 6-2 win tonight. Dodgers: 39-36 Angels: 32-42 Hitting Notables: D. Navarro: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 2B G. Spivey11
You're My Boy, Lowe! (Above: Lowe goes eight allowing only one hit, Right: Crawford caused a whole bunch of havoc on the basepaths.) Derek Lowe pitched his best game all year tonight. Going eight full innings while allowing only one hit and striking out an astonishing fourteen Padres. FOURTEEN! And to top it off, seven and one third of those innings were perfect. The Dodgers didn't score until the fourth inning, with Carl Crawford leading off the inning with a double. He then attempted to steal third base but the Roman Hernadez throw sailed into left field allowing Crawford to score. They would score again in the fifth, with Andy Marte scoring on a Ricky Ledee double to put the Dodgers up 2-0. The Dodgers would add a little more insurance in the seventh, with Marte scoring again this time on a Jason Phillips single. This would put the Dodgers up 3-0 and end their two game losing streak. Spivey11
We Know Drama (Above: Werth hits a solo homer in the sixth, Right: Marte slides in safely at home to win the game in the ninth.) "I knew that I was going to score, right when I lead off the ninth with a single. I just knew." These words are from third baseman Andy Marte, who score the game winning run tonight. He lead off the ninth with a single to left, Pete Orr followed it up with another single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Jason Phillips would hit the first pitch that he saw to center field and it would barely bring in Marte to win the game. The Dodgers scored very early in tonight's game, with Carl Crawford leading off the game with his seventh triple on the year. He would then score on a ground out to short by J. D. Drew. San Diego would proceed to tie the game up in the third on an Eric Young opposite field solo homer, his fifth on the year. But, in the sixth, Jayson Werth would hit his twelfth on the year to put the Dodgers up 2-1 after six innings. The lead wouldn't last for long though, as Young would hit his second homer of the game to tie it up at 2-2 in the seventh. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the ninth, when Marte scored to give the Dodgers a 3-2 win over division rival Padres. Spivey11
Stick That in Your Pipe & Smoke It (Above: Flores robs Klesko of an RBI in the fifth, Right: Orr steals second to get in scoring position in the ninth.) The Dodgers have done it, they swept their division rival San Deigo to move up to only 4 1/2 games back in the NL West. But, the sweep didn't come easy, as the Dodgers had to win the game in the bottom of the ninth for the second straight day. It looked as if the game was going to be well in hand for Los Angeles. As they scored a run in the third on a RBI off the bat of J. D. Drew, bringing in Carl Crawford. They would score two more in the fourth, with Jason Phillips driving in two on a RBI sinlge to center. Jeff Weaver was brought out of the game after seven innings pitched, and set-up man Yhency Brazoban was brought into the game in the eighth. Brazoban started out the inning quite nicely, striking out the first two batters. But, after that - he collapsed; giving up a solo homer to Eric Young and a two run homer to Ryan Klesko to tie the game up at 3-3. The Dodgers weren't going to be denied, as Pete Orr would lead off the inning with a single to right. He would then steal second and Jason Phillips would walk to put runners on first and second. Then, Jose Flores would hit a seeing eye single to left that would bring in Orr for the game-winning run. Los Angeles will have an off day to finish out the month of June. A month in which they went 20-7, by far their best month of the year. It was also a month that would put them back into contension in the National League West. The starting pitcher for the D-backs, Brad Halsey, wasn't even able to record on out in tonight's game. He faced six batters and gave up five hits, four runs, two homers, a walk, and a triple. The first homer of the game was hit by first baseman Olmedo Saenz, his fourth on the year. J. D. Drew, the very next batter would proceed to hit his sixth homer to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead. Another run would be scored in that inning, putting the Dodgers up 4-0 through one inning. Drew would drive in Carl Crawford in the second to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead. The Dodgers would score two in the fourth on a Jayson Werth homer, and two in the fifth on another Saenz homer. This would put the Dodgers up, a commanding, 9-0. Hee-Seop Choi provided the only offense in tonight's game. As he went 2-3, with a home run and three RBIs. The first inning started out with Carl Crawford reaching first with an infield single. He would proceed to steal second and third, but his efforts would only pad his stats. As Choi would hit a two run blast to give the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead. Arizona would score a lone run in the fifth, on a Luis Gonzalez solo homer to right. That homer would cut the Dodgers' lead in half, 2-1. But, Choi would answer back in the sixth with a RBI single driving in Jayson Werth to put the Dodgers up 3-1. That run would prove to be huge, as Eric Gagne would give up a solo homer to Scott Hairston that would cut the Dodgers lead to 3-2. Spivey11
Look's like your Dodgers are coming back around. Keep up the good work! Thanks bro, I never thought that it was going to happen! Weird that Werth turned out to be the slugger of your team, & J.D. Drew with 6? I would have never thought that coming into this year, but Jayson has been pretty clutch for me. Spivey11
Broom Me Baby (Above: Crawford drives in the second run of the game, Right: Orr possibly saves two runs with a diving catch.) Every Dodger that had an at-bat in today's game had a hit, which contributed to the sweep of Arizona. Today's game started out in typical fashion, with Carl Crawford leading off with a single and then stealing second. He would then be driven in on a J. D. Drew RBI single to put the Dodgers up 1-0. Another run would be scored in the second, with Crawford hitting a single that would bring in Jose Flores from second. This would be all that either team would score, as Derek Lowe pitched an increadible game and Brandon Webb settled down after the second. Lowe would go seven innings while allowing only three hits while striking out six. Team News: Second baseman Jeff Kent has returned to the starting lineup after today's game. He will start in the first game against the Colorado Rockies and replace Pete Orr who filled in for him while he was out with a hernia. Dodgers: 45-36 Diamondbacks: 41-42 Hitting Notables: C. Spivey11
Late Push (Above: Crawford hits triple to drive in the first run of the game, Right: Gagne strikes out the final batter to record save.) Neither starting pitcher gave up a run in this evening's game. With Odalis Perez going eight innings, allowing four hits while striking out seven Rockies. And Aaron Cook going eight innings, allowing five hits and he struck out only two. But, after Cook was taken out of the game, Byun-Hyung Kim surrendered two runs to the Dodgers in 1/3 of an inning. Pinch hitter, Pete Orr, lead off the ninth with a single and he then stole second. Carl Crawford batted behind him and hit a triple down the left field line to bring in Orr. Hee-Seop Choi would then drive in Crawford to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Gagne was brought into the game to close it out, but he made it interesting. As second baseman, Luis Gonzalez, would reach first on a fielding error committed by Jeff Kent. Then, Dustin Mohr laid down a sac-bunt and Gagne made a throwing error that allowed Gonzalez to score. But, that would be all, and Gagne would strike out the next two batters to record his 25th save. Dodgers: 46-36 Rockies: 29-54 Hitting Notables: C. Crawford: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 Run, 1 3B( J. Werth: 2-4 M. Spivey11
Wasted Work (Above: Werth hits a solo homer in the second to tie the game, Right: Relaford slides in safely to win the game in the ninth.) All of Jeff Weaver's work went to waste in the ninth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and runners on second and third, Todd Helton was brought into the game as a pinch hitter. And he did his job, driving in Jorge Piedra and Desi Relaford to give the Rockies the 3-2 win over the Dodgers. The Rockies started quickly, with lead off hitter Luis Gonzalez hitting a triple into the right center gap. He would then be driven in on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dustin Mohr. But the Dodgers would answer back in the second, with Jayson Werth leading off the inning with a solo homer and then Andy Marte would be driven in on a Pete Orr single. This loss snapped the Dodgers' seven game winning streak. It would also be the first loss that Eric Gagne would suffer all year. "It seemed like everything that I threw, the [Rockies'] batters knew what was coming at them. I just have to regroup and be ready to close out tomorrow's game - if needed." mooseknucks
Solid Spivey. Solid. You had the one bad streak of games but ever since, pure dominance! If only Lowe could pitch like that in real life ... :lmao: Good job. :wtg:
