Spivey11
Free Baseball in Colorado (Above: Ledee drives in the go ahead run in the tenth, Right: Gagne strikes out the side to give the Dodgers the win.) It took ten innings to decide who would be the winner of tonight's game, and it was the good guys. As the Dodgers would win it on a Ricky Ledee pinch hit RBI single. The Rockies would score first (in the second inning), with Ian Stewart driving in J. D. Closser to give the Rockies an early 1-0 lead. But, in the fourth, Hee-Seop Choi and Jayson Werth would hit back-to-back solo homers to put the Dodgers up 2-1. The Dodgers would score another run in the top of the seventh, with J. D. Drew driving in Jeff Kent who hit a double in the at-bat before. In the bottom of the inning, Desi Relaford would hit his eighth homer on the year - this time it was a two run job, as he drove in Closser. That homer tied the game up at 3-3 through seven innings. And in the tenth, the Dodgers would take over the lead for good. With Ledee and Olmedo Seanz RBI singles to give the Dodgers the 5-3 win over the Rockies. Spivey11
Scotty Does Know (Above: Flores goes 2-4 with 2 doubles, Right: Werth hits 16th homer on year en route to win.) The Los Angeles Dodgers took it to the Colorado Rockies today with a 5-2 win that gave them the series win, 3-1. It didn't look promising in the begining though, with Todd Helton hitting a solo homer in the bottom of the first, his 22 on the year. But the Dodgers would quickly answer in the second, with Jason Phillips driving in Andy Marte. They would also score again in the third, one run off a solo homer by Jayson Werth, and two more off RBI doubles from Marte and Jose Flores. Colorado would add another run in the fourth to cut the Dodgers' lead in half, with a Desi Relaford RBI single. But Los Angeles would silence all hopes with Phillips driving in Hee-Seop Choi on a RBI double to put the Dodgers up 5-2. Dodgers: 48-37 Rockies: 30-56 Hitting Notables: J. Spivey11
Ten at the Min (Above: Flores connects for his first major league home run, Right: Saenz hits a towering homer totalling 475 feet.) I am willing to bet that the Dodgers' right-handed batters wished that they could play at Minute Maid every day out of the year. As they connected for three homers over the short left field porch and scored 10 runs on 16 hits tonight against the Astros. Every Dodger starter had at least one hit in tonight's game, the only player not to have a hit was pinch hitter Hee-Seop Choi who didn't start against the left-handed pitcher. Another stat for you, every Dodger also scored a run in the game, with Jose Flores scoring two. Tonight was a night that I don't think Flores will ever forget. Going 2-5, with his first major league home run. The Dodgers had one big, and I mean big inning tonight, and that inning was the sixth. In this inning they would score 8 runs, which would prove to be crucial as the Astros would post 6 runs tonight. Dodgers: 49-37 Astros: 41-45 Hitting Notables: J. Werth: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 Run, 1 2B J. Spivey11
Dandy Andy (Above: Drew throws out Ensberg trying to score in 4th, Right: Marte thanks the Lord for his perfect day at the plate along with 2 homers.) This was probably the best game by far that Andy Marte has ever played in his life. Going 5-5 at the plate today, with four RBIs, three runs scored, and two homers - the first time he's done this in his short major league carrer. His day at the plate overshadowed other accoplishments that were achieved, including all but one Dodger had at least one hit in today's game. The Dodgers were the first to score in the third inning, with RBIs from J. D. Drew, Hee-Seop Choi, & Andy Marte to put L. A. up 3-0. Houston would add a single run in the fourth off a solo homer from Craig Biggio, his ninth on the year. But, Marte would make up for that run that was scored, with the first of his two homers. This one was a mammoth of a homer, going out to straight away center. And when you do that at Minute Maid, you know that you deserved it. But, the Astros would pull to within one run in the sixth, with Lance Berkman hitting a two-run homer to cut down the Dodgers' lead to 4-3 through six. The Dodgers would add a little insurance in the eighth, with pinch hitter Pete Orr driving in Marte to increase the lead to 5-3. But, the game would be sealed in the top of the ninth, with Marte hitting the second of his two homers, this time a two-run job to give the Dodgers a commanding 7-3 lead and eventual win. Spivey11
Dandy Andy, Part 2 (Above: Pettitte pitches a complete game to close out the first half, Right: The train nearly runs out of gas with all the homers.) This time it wasn't Andy Marte, it was Andy Pettitte. To say that he pitched well would be an understatement. As he through a complete game allowing only one run on five hits while striking out four. The Dodgers broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth, with Carl Crawford leading off the inning with a triple and scoring on a J. D. Drew RBI single. But, they would quickly be silenced in the bottom of the inning, as the Astros scored four runs. All four runs were scored off homers, with Mike Lamb and Raul Chavez hitting two run homers. They would score another in the sixth on a Jason Lane solo homer to increase Houston's lead by one to make the score 5-1. Another run would cross the plate in favor of the bad guys in the eighth, with Lance Berkman driving in Adam Everett. Now comes the All-Star break, including the Home Run Derby and the All-Star game. It seems as if no Dodger position player will start the All-Star game, but they might have one or two reserves and a few pitchers - maybe Lowe starting the All-Star game? Rumor has it that LaRussa really likes the way that Lowe works and would like for him to start. As most of you know, the Home Run Derby will undergo some changes this year. With Major League Baseball having eight players represent eight different countries. It will be on ESPN tomorrow night, and I strongly suggest that you tune in. *Injury Report*: J. D. Drew has suffered a strained right forearm and will be out for two weeks. His spot on the major league roster will be replaced by AAA right fielder Cody Ross. Whew, what a game. Tonight's All-Star Game saw nine, count that - nine home runs hit. Six from the National League All-Star team, and three from the Americans; as the NL won 6-3. The American League started out strong, with a Vladimir Guerrerro solo homer in the first and a David Ortiz solo homer in the second to give the AL an early 2-0 lead. But, the National League would answer in the third, with Scott Rolen and Brian Nitkowski hitting solo shots to tie the game up at 2-2. The AL would break the tie in the fifth off a Derek Jeter solo homer that would put them up 3-2 through five innings. But in the sixth, the National League would go ahead for good.
