Spivey11
Nice chise btw master shake is awesome Thanks for following bro - and yes, Master Shake quite awesome! Saez has really turned up the juice for ya!!! I know, he's done really well for me against lefties. But then again, that's all he's good for! Rickey Ledee was great last game. Why dont they try Antonio Perez as a starter? Ricky has his moments where he can be awesome, and then he can be horrible. I did have Antonio starting while I had Kent and Izturis out with injuries, but now I don't have enough roster space to have him on my major league team. So, he's starting for the Las Vegas 51s. Spivey11
Late Runs Kill Dodgers (Above: Choi hits solo bomb in the second - his sixth on the year, Right: Rolen hits homer in the ninth to give St. Louis the win.) For a while, it looked as if the lone run for the Dodgers, scored on a Hee-Seop Choi solo homer, would be enough to give Los Angeles the win. Jeff Weaver only made one mistake in tonight's game, but it was a very costly one. Thinking that he could catch John Mabry off-guard with a 1-2 fastball inside, he would surrender his only run of the game. Mabry connected for a mammoth blast, going over 450 feet, to tie the game up at 1-1 in the seventh inning. Weaver would pitch one more inning, then Jim Tracy would bring in lefty Gabe White who just recorded his first win of the year two games ago. White would have two outs win third baseman Scott Rolen came up to hit. Rolen would take him deep for his fifteenth homer on the year to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth. Jason Isringhausen would come in to the game to close it out in the ninth. He would only surrender one hit as he recorded his twenty-second save on the year, and end Los Angeles' three game winning streak. Dodgers: 60-43 Cardinals: 58-44 Hitting Notables: H. Spivey11
(Above: Werh watches his two run homer in the first, Right: Drew connects for a solo homer in the third.) Los Angeles wasn't going to let the game come down to the ninth inning again tonight, as they mashed on St. Louis and won 6-1. From the first inning, spectators knew that it was the Dodgers' night. With Carl Crawford leading off the game with a double to right. He would score on a J. D. Drew single to center to give LA a 1-0 lead. Jayson Werth would bat next, and he would connect for his nineteenth homer on the year. This time it was a two run job that would put the Dodgers up 3-0 after one inning. Drew would add to the score in the third, hitting his seventh homer on the year that would increase Los Angeles' lead to 4-0. In the fourth, the Cardinals would score their only run on the game, a solo homer by Jim Edmonds - his twenty-fifth on the year. But, the Dodgers would counter that run in the bottom of the inning with Jarrod Washburn drving in Pete Orr. One more insurance run would be added in the eighth inning, on a RBI single off the bat of Cesar Izturis - this would finalize the score at 6-1. Dodgers: 61-43 Cardinals: 58-45 Hitting Notables: J. The Cardinals started out strong and looked to have the game in hand during and directly after the first inning. With Larry Walker leading off the game with a solo homer and then, three batters later, Scott Rolen hit his sixteenth homer on the year. This would put St. Louis up 2-0 after the first half inning. But, the Dodgers would quickly answer back - or better yet, Jeff Kent would answer back. As Kent would hit a two-run homer that brought in J. D. Drew to tie the game after the first inning at 2-2. Kent would bat again in the third, and again he would bring in Drew on a two-run homer, his first multi-homer game of the year. The Cardinals would pull to within one run in the sixth, with Rolen driving in Mark Grudzielanek on a run scoring double that would decrease the Dodger lead to 4-3. Los Angeles would counter that run in the seventh, with Olmedo Sanez (hitting for Hee-Seop Choi) bringing in Carl Crawford to add a little more insurance and seal the Dodgers' series win against the Cardinals. Spivey11
Tonight's Match-Up: Derek Lowe (12-4) vs. Livan Hernandez (10- Kent Saves the Day (Above: Kent hits solo homer in seventh to give Dodgers lead, Right: Wilkerson robs Marte of possible RBI in the ninth inning.) Tonight was an outstanding, edge-of-your-set type of game. With the game scoreless in going into the seventh inning, Livan Hernandez would have a lone, but costly, mistake. He threw a high fastball to Jeff Kent in which Kent blasted it over the center field fence to give the Dodgers' the only run of the game. Washington would give Los Angeles a scare in the bottom of the inning, when runners reached second and third with two outs. But, Derek Lowe would induce a groundout to end the inning and silence the rally talks. Yhency Brazoban would come in the game in the eight and strike out the side on nine pitches. His fastball was extremely lively tonight, with lots of movement and speeds reaching 99 mph. As usual, Eric Gagne would close out in the game in the ninth for his 34 save on the year to give the Dodgers a slim 1-0 win over the Nationals. Dodgers: 63-43 Nationals: 49-57 Hitting Notables: J. It was obvious that Jayson Werth ate plenty of Wheates this morning, and probably right before the game. Maybe three or four bowls? Werth had one heck of a game at the plate, going 3-4 with three homers, six RBIs, and three runs scored. Werth started in the second inning, with a monstrous blast that went into the upper deck at RFK. Los Angeles wouldn't score again until the seventh, and it would be off the bat of Werth. This time he would bring in J. D. Drew to increase the Dodgers' lead to 3-0. They would score four more runs in the ninth inning, one run off a double from Hee-Seop Choi that drove in Cesar Izturis. Then, Werth would hit his third homer on the game that would bring in Jeff Kent, Choi, and himself to nearly double the Dodger lead to 7-0. Odalis Perez's game on the mound was overshadowed by Werth's day at the plate. Perez went all nine innings, allowing zero runs on five hits while striking out six and walking two. The Dodgers' infield helped keep the shutout alive with three or four diving plays that held base runners up, not allowing them to either advance or score. Jeff Kent started off early, hitting a two run homer that barely cleared the left field wall to bring in J. D. Drew in the first inning. Then, in the second inning, Jayson Werth hit his twenty-third homer on the year to increase the Dodger lead to a respectable 3-0. Los Angeles would add another run in the sixth on Kent's second homer on the game to give Jeff Weaver a commanding 4-0 lead. Weaver threw the second consecutive Dodger shutout, allowing only four hits while striking out twelve Nationals. With this win, the Los Angeles Dodgers have tied the San Diego Padres for first place in the National League West. This is the first time the Dodgers have had at least a share of the division lead in a long, long while. Each team will now enter a three game series with teams at the cellar of their respective divisions. Los Angeles will go to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates, and San Diego will travel to Washington to face the Nationals who were just swept by the Dodgers. Spivey11
Olmedo Comes Through (Above: Werth connects for his 24th homer on the year in second, Right: Saenz gives the Dodgers the lead with this 3-run homer in ninth.) It didn't look as if the Dodgers were going to have a chance at winning tonight's game versus the Pirates. With Pittsburgh holding a 3-1 lead going into the ninth inning and Jose Mesa coming in the game to close it out, Dodger fans didn't have much hope. But in that ninth, Cesar Izturis and Jeff Kent were able to reach base, Kent being the tieing run. This brought up Olmedo Saenz, and he proceeded to hit a three run bomb that would put the Dodgers ahead 4-3. Ok, let me tell you what happened up until this moment. The Dodgers were the first to score, scoring in the second inning on a solo homer off the bat of Jayson Werth, his twenty-fourth on the year. But, the Pirates would answer back in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice on a two run single from Jose Bautista - driving in Craig Wilson and Jose Castillo. Pittsburgh would add another run in the eighth, this time off a solo homer off the bat of Jack Wilson, his thirteenth on the year to increase the Pirate's lead to 3-1 after eight innings. And we all know what happened in the top of the ninth, Saenz hitting the three run homer. Eric Gagne came in to the game and recorded his league leading thirty-fifth save on the year. He sat down the Pirates 1-2-3, but suprisingly, he didn't strike out one batter. Dodgers: 66-43 Pirates: 48-52 Hitting Notables: J. Werth: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 Run, 1 HR(24) O. Perez threw a complete game shutout, allowing only six hits while striking out three. The Dodgers didn't help their chances either, making three errors - the most in a single game this year. Neither team scored until Tike Redman hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to give the Pirates the lead, 1-0. Spivey11
Offensive Battle (Above: Werth connects for his 26th homer on the year in the third, Right: Weaver hits 2nd homer on the year in the sixth.) The Dodgers looked to have tonight's game well in hand with a 7-0 lead going into the seventh inning. They scored one run in the first, four in the third, and two in the sixth. Two runs were scored on homers, one off the bat of Jayson Werth and the other from Jeff Weaver. The solo homer from Werth was his twenty-sixth on the year, and the shot from Weaver was his second. But, something crazy happened in the top half of the seventh inning. Philadelphia scored five runs in that wacky seventh. The scoring output started off with a two-run blast off the bat of pinch hitter Ryan Howard, his third on the year. Britt Reames was called on to get Weaver out of the jam, and he did. Then, Eric Gagne came in to close out tonight's very interesting game. Dodgers: 69-44 Phillies: 56-58 Hitting Notables: J. Werth: 2-4, 3 RBI, 2 Runs, 1 2B, 1 HR(26) J. Spivey11
As Cold As Ice (Above: Down 3-0 in the eighth; Werth hits a three run homer, Right: Drew gets the game-winning RBI in the ninth; driving in Crawford.) Tonight's game was looking pretty dismal for the Dodgers. Down 3-0 after four innings, and the Dodgers couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat. But, for some strange reason, the Phillies manager pulled Terry Adams in the sixth. Jason Michaels started off the scoring for the Phillies in the third on a opposite field solo homer, his fourth on the year. Then, in the fourth, Shea Hillenbrand hit a two run double, driving in Adams and Jimmy Rollins. But, in the eighth, the Phillies brought in a left handed pitcher. This proved to be a bad idea as Jayson Werth, who absolutely murders lefties, came up to bat against Rheal Cormier. Werth would connect for his twenty-second homer on the year, this one a three run shot to tie the game at 3-3 after eight innings. Then, in the ninth, the Dodgers were able to get to Philadelphia's closer, Billy Wagner. Carl Crawford lead off the ninth with a single up the middle and he then stole second base to get in scoring position. Cesar Izturis hit a little nubber down the third base line and was able to beat it out for an infield single to get runners on first and third with no outs. J. D. Drew proceeded to mash the Wagner pitch over the right fielders head to drive in Crawford to win the game. Dodgers: 70-44 Phillies: 56-59 Hitting Notables: C. Crawford: 2-5, 1 Run 2 SB (75) J. Spivey11
Werth & Navarro Carry Dodgers (Above: Werth drives in three with his 28th homer on the year, Right: Navarro connects for his second homer on the year in the fifth.) Los Angeles continues to win, tonight's increasing their winning streak to five games. Also, they continue to hit the long ball, with two tonight, making it four straight games with at least one homer. New York started off fast, scoring a lone run in the first on a solo homer from Jose Reyes, his seventh on the year. But, Los Angeles would take over the lead in the fourth, with Jayson Werth hitting his twenthy-eighth homer on the year, this one driving in three to give L. A. the 3-1 lead after four. In the fifth, the Mets would pull to within one run of the Dodgers on Cliff Floyd's eleventh homer on the year, cutting the Dodgers' lead to 3-2. In the bottom half on the inning, Dioner Navarro would increase the Dodger lead with his second homer on the year, 4-2. The Mets would try and comeback in the sixth, but they would fall short. Only scoring one run, on a RBI double off the bat of David Wright. This would cut down the Dodgers' lead to 4-3, but that wouldn't be enough. As the Dodgers would win and increase their lead in the NL West. Dodgers: 71-44 Mets: 66-49 Hitting Notables: J. Werth: 1-3, 3 RBI, 1 Run, 1 HR(28 ) D. Navarro: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 Run, 1 HR(2) J. cybernetic
Yeah, I really don't understand it. He came into the game when the Dodgers had a 6-1 lead and pitched three innings. I don't know why he was given the save, unless there's some rule that I don't know about... Yeah the rule is if the lead is more than 3 that you have to pitch the final 3 or more innings to get it. Sac51
Yeah, I really don't understand it. He came into the game when the Dodgers had a 6-1 lead and pitched three innings. I don't know why he was given the save, unless there's some rule that I don't know about... The rule is pretty simple:"4 Innings of relief while leading is an automatic save, no matter how big is your lead". But 3 Innings is not an automatic save...when you are leading 6-1 with the bases loaded...then you put a reliever in it is a save situation, cause the tieing run is in the on-deck circle.
