Blue Jays Galore 2006

Update 09/21/2005:

Owner Mode:

Six hits were enough to score five runs against the Cleveland Indians. Dmitri Young had a great game, the highlight being a three-run homer in the sixth inning. Eric Gagne closed the game out for his eleventh save of the year... I love that guy!

Dynasty:

I'm quite struggling in my Dynasty mode. The latest loss at Oakland (2-3) was the 32nd of the year, with only 23 wins. The reason for this is that my batters don't hit too well, and now even the pitchers perform badly. Chacin and Batista are both injured, so I might have to check the Free Agents in order to improve my pitching.

Go Jays!

Another transaction (Owner Mode):

3B Geoff Blum was traded to Oakland for RF Alex Sanchez. First, I was not satisfied with Blum's approach at the plate (BA ~.150), and second, I needed another outfielder since CF Aaron Rowand got injured a couple of games ago.

Update 10/08/2005:

Owner Mode:

After trailing for the most part of the game against St. Louis, I finally scored four runs in the ninth, but still lost it 5-6 on a spectacular catch by Junior Spivey. Well, almost...

Whatever, I'm still in the lead in the AL East (35-30), 1.5 games ahead of Boston. So the playoff hopes are still very much alive.

Dynasty:

First in Owner Mode, last in my Dynasty. Since every starting pitcher I've got seems to get injured, I've given up any hope of advancing to the post-season. Last game against the Red Sox I had to start Scott Downs and even though he pitched fairly well, I lost the series opener 1-3. Thank God, there will be a new season, eventually!

Go Jays!

Transaction News: :new:

Owner Mode - It might have been related to his weird batting stance, but up to the All-Star break I haven't hit well with my DH Dmitri Young (AVG below .200 and only 5 HRs). So I decided to trade him as long as somebody still wanted him. In the end, I went with 3B David Wright of the SF Giants. They accepted the trade, but I also had to give them one of my AAA starters (Garrett Stephenson). Anyway, I think it was a good deal for me because now I've got an excellent third baseman who is not only young, but cheap, too (Salary: 500K). Young's DH spot will be filled by 3B Robb Quinlan, who's an ok hitter, but lacks some quality in fielding.

EDIT: Tough luck for Wright in his first appearance for the Jays - he broke his hand trying to break up a double play and will be out for more than two weeks. Thank God the All-Star break is coming up, so he won't miss too many games.

Dynasty Mode - Yes! I finally found a team that was willing to offer me a trade for RP Miguel Batista! He's been on my trading block forever (basically since Opening Day), and I'm so glad to be rid of him... LA offered me SP Buddy Carlyle which was perfect considering the fact that two of my starters (Ted Lilly and Gustavo Chacin) are currently injured.

So long, Miguel - you won't be missed!

Update 10/20/2005:

Owner Mode:

I'm at the All-Star break and my team is doing really well. With a record of 48-40, the Jays are second in the AL East, 1/2 game behind the Red Sox. After winning seven games in a row, I lost against the Texas Rangers 1-2. Eric Gagne, who is currently leading the Majors with 30 saves, blew his first save of the year, allowing two runs on four hits in the ninth.

Whatever... I still love that guy! :hail:

Dynasty:

Although I'm ranked last im my Dynasty, it's kinda fun playing because I really want Roy Halladay to win the Cy Young award. He's currently leading the race with a record of 13-5, an ERA of 2.69, and 130 strikeouts. In the latest game he even had the chance to record his third complete game shutout of the year, but the Tigers scored two runs in the ninth to deny that wish.

Go Jays!

Yes, but wouldn't you want a realistic game?

Well, it's realistic enough for me. Sure, there are some players who will play better than in real life and some who will play worse. As long as the stats are not totally messed up, I don't have a problem with it.

btw, I justed watched the All-Star game in my Owner Mode to see how my boys (Peavy, Gagne, and Guerrero) were doing. My pitchers didn't get a chance to perform, but Vlad is a hot candidate for the MVP. He hit two homers, driving in four runs, but couldn't avoid a 5-7 loss for the AL.

Update 11/04/2005:

Owner Mode:

The latest defeat (0-3 against the O's) has probably been my worst game ever. I just couldn't hit well, and my pitching was way off-target. Plus, I gave up two homeruns (by Bagwell and Lee) with Peavy on the mound. He's now 11-7, with an ERA of 3.71 and 112 strikeouts. Thank God, Boston didn't win their game either, so I'm still only 1.5 games behind the Red Sox.

Dynasty:

As I'm playing the last couple of games of my Dynasty, it's pretty hard to concentrate, since I'm last in the division. However, I don't want to be there when the season is over, so I need to win at least three more games out of the five remaining (two vs. Boston, three vs. Kansas City).

Go Jays!

Update 11/18/2005:

Owner Mode:

A long season has ended and it was worth the time - Blue Jays win AL East title! I finished the regular season with a record of 90-72, two games ahead of Boston (Wild Card). So now I'm off to the playoffs! The best thing is that finally I'm able to use Trues' magnificent playoff overlays. Hopefully, I'm going to see all three of them...

Dynasty:

Last place in the division (even behind Tampa Bay!) and lots of injuries. Thank God, at least Halladay proved his importance as he collected his second Cy Young Award in three years. Next year will be better though. Well, let's hope for the best and expect the worst...

Go Jays!

Both last posts were kinda unnecessary. Guys, if you don't have to say anything related to the topic of this thread, then please don't. Thank you!

btw, I've got playoff news from my Owner Mode team. I swept the Rangers in the ALDS, and then had to face the Red Sox in the ALCS. After winning the first game, I lost three in a row, which ultimately led to a 2-4 loss. So no World Series action this year, but the Jays will be back next year!

Ok, with the new season approaching, and finally having some spare time again, I'm about to start a new Dynasty and Owner Mode (fantasy team). For now, I will only play in Owner Mode because I want to wait until Opening Day before starting my Dynasty, as I'm planning on keeping up with ongoing transactions during the season. Plus, I simmed one season in my Dynasty in order to start in '06 (Owner Mode will start in '05, though). I also tried to place all the players on the right teams. The rosters aren't 100% accurate because some players retired, some didn't, new players arrived, etc. However, the big deals have all been completed.

I'll update my homepage once a week (starting this weekend) and post about current events in this thread. Here are the pitching rotations/lineups to give you a quick impression of my two teams.

Dynasty:

Lineup:

Key players:

Offseason acquisitions by the Blue Jays: Starting pitcher A.J. Burnett (top left), third baseman

Troy Glaus (top right), closer B.J. Ryan (bottom left), and catcher Bengie Molina (bottom right).

Owner Mode:

Lineup:

Key players:

Play Ball: Third baseman Hank Blalock (top left), first baseman Albert Pujols (top right), second

baseman Luis Rivas with shortstop Xi Berger (bottom left), and ace Roy Oswalt (bottom right).

Update 03/25/2006:

Owner Mode:

What a way to start a new season... The Devil Rays beat me 7-1 in what will go down in history as one of my worst games ever. Bad pitching, bad hitting, and defensive errors en masse. Whatever, there are 161 more games to play. At least I didn't go down like the A's in Baltimore (0-12). 8O read more...

xi your dynasty/owner mode page is awesome. how do you get one of those?

Well, the whole stats part is done by MVPSavReader, a wonderful program that allows you to extract all sorts of information from your savegames. The rest (main page and navigation) is pretty easy to do. I'm certainly no expert when it comes to webdesign, but using the right software (Dreamweaver in my case) makes it a piece of cake.

Roy Oswalt in a Jays uniform makes me uncomfortable in the pit of my gut.

You better get used to it, Eric. I've got a feeling that this kid is going to stay up north for a long, long time. :D

Update 03/31/2006:

Owner Mode:

The Texas Rangers were no competition, as I easily beat them 6-1. After a slow start, my team is getting better and better with each game. Vance Wilson is really tearing up the plate right now. So far, he has got two homers (one grandslam), nine RBIs, and an avarage well above .500. The only players who give me some reason for concern are Albert Pujols (still no homerun), Juan Encarnacion (AVG .167), and Aaron Cook (0-2, ERA 12.00). After 13 games my team record is 8-5, which puts me in second place of my division. read more...

xiberger your site is awsome and it has inspired me to create my own, thank you very much. Can you please tell me how you were able to get your schedule to show up in the monthly calender mode? currently when I run MVPSavreader my output is in a vertical line display.

Update 04/05/2006:

Dynasty Mode:

The new season has started with a win against the Kansas City Royals. Despite being down 0-2 after seven innings, the Jays rallied back to win the opener 3-2. Roy Halladay only allowed two runs on four hits, Jason Frasor got the win, and B.J. Ryan recorded his first save in a Blue Jays uniform. read more...

Update 04/08/2006:

Dynasty Mode:

After a fantastic start into the season, the Angels were the first team to really challenge my 2006 Blue Jays. The Halos won the first two games, but in the final one Bengie Molina showed his former teammates why he's still one of the best catchers in the game. In a big showdown, Toronto's closer B.J. Ryan got his sixth save of the year, while K-Rod struggled for the first time. read more...

Owner Mode:

Wow, what a game! The series finale against the O's lasted 15 (!) innings. I had to throw almost my entire bullpen at Hafner, Soriano & Co., but to no avail. In the end, my Jays lost 3-4. Benitez blew his first save of the year in the 13th. I'm kinda thinking about trading him and moving Looper into the closer spot. We'll see what the future brings. My current team record is 17-12, which means second position in the AL East. read more...
