is anyone having issues hitting doubles?

I notice that I dont hit that many doubles in the game, and I was wandering if the angle of the ball when it is hit might be to steep. Has anyone noticed this at all? Maybe its just me but I felt that in mvp 2005 the ball has some serious hang time. If anyone has noticed this can you tell me if there is a way to solve this via the data file and what is a good value to set this too.

Thanks

I hit 2 or 3 a game. I usually pull the ball down the left or right field lines when the 3rd baseman plays in or plays away from the bag. Same for the first baseman. I fake a bunt and bring them in. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Depends if you can bunt with that particualr guy well enough. If you get the right pitch, you can line it into the corner. It also depends on the speed of your guy. If he runs around 50 - 60, forget it. Its like running a race with a snail, and you will definitely get picked at second. Mostly you will have to rely on a little luck as well. Timing your swing. I hope that helped a bit. Im not the pro's pro in here but I am working on it..................

I noticed that also, what I started doing was testing the outfielders arms a little more than I was. Now I get many doubles a game.

Well, the Major League average is between 1.5 and 2 doubles per game, so you shouldn't be ripping doubles left and right. That being said, this game is tough on doubles right out of the box. I made a few modifications to help with this...

#1 (and most important): Turn the OF speed way down! - I have mine set at -23. This seems like a very realistic setting.

#2 - Turn the arm strength and accurracy down. Can't remember what mine are right off the top of my head, but I believe it's around -5 or -10.

#3 - I modified my datafile to move my OF'ers in a bit. They were playing too close to the OF wall which was allowing too many short drives to drop in for singles and not enough hard hit balls to go over their heads for extra bases.

With these changes you should see an increase in extra base hits.

I gotta agree with 1hotballa, I used to be lucky if I got 1 double in an entire series but once I started forcing the OFs to throw me out I would usually get 2-3 per game. It seems if you continue to challege the OFs they tend to throw me balls off-target and as long as you slide correctly your usually safe.

It does seem with the faster guys that its actually easier to hit triples then doubles, one season I had 25 triples and only 10 doubles with Ichiro at the All-Star break, but then I changed some sliders around and evened things out a bit more.

those are great suggestions as well as i recommend downloading kumala's datafile 6 (or from what i understand the roddata one's as well - i've stuck with D6 and haven't tried the other versions so i can't speak on them). kumala's datafile adjusts ball speed and trajectory so that everything isn't a line drive or high fly ball. i'm getting very realistic ball trajectories such as bloop singles, gappers and flys that drop near the foul line for corner doubles/triples. with this mix of mods/adjustments i'm having much more fun with the game.

that is a good point AcousticNut, I also have the OF speed way down. I have it set somewhere in the mid -20's. By default, the OF's are WAY too fast. They look like the 6 Million Dollar Man out there

I usually get 2-4 doubles per game this is what I do.

1. look for inside pitches for pull hitters or outside pitches for slap hitters

2. you can use the stick to giude hits but try to hold it more left or right than up

3. Timing is everything, just like in real life looking for certain pitches in certain areas helps, because you can react to it better.

4 Also reconinizing hangers will help, it'll usually be homers or doubles with good hitters.

5. on hits that you think could be doubles, challenge outfielders unless they're known for good arms, you'll be safe or they'll cut the throw off most of the time.

I have issues hitting doubles and triples as well. I'm currently last in the Majors with 55 doubles and ONE triple (57 games). I was looking through the MLB stats and Chicago AL is currently last in doubles at 84.

Does anyone know what lines in the datafile to adjust for ball trajectory? I will try the slider recommendations you guys mentioned too.

what datafile are you guys using? using kamulas datafile 6

I'm currently #1 in double #1 in homers and #1 in least strikeouts.
