spitoon
oh ok...isn't that kinda unorthodox? every datafile ive seen says that it goes in the datafile folder. Umm, I've never seen one that goes in the /datafile folder... All datafile.txt's go in the /data folder.
Spivey11
I have to say this datafile brought me down a notch. As I was manhandled in my first game with it: 9-0. But, I have to say that I like it. It's 10x better than winning 9-0.

So hopefully I'll get thing hang of it and start winning a little.
JohnnyBlaze
First game I played with Jim's datafile and sliders I (Orioles) lost 3-2 to the White Sox then in the second game I (Braves) won 11-3 over the A's after getting 8 runs in the 2nd inning. I'm getting great pitch counts, a nice mix of walks and Ks and the game is actually becoming fun again. I think I may be just about ready to start a dynasty. vinnycast27
yeh its a brilliant data file, i just wish i could get more k's that don't go to 3-2 counts all the time. i can't seem to get the CPU to take the bait, just won't swing at anything out the zone.... when on 0-2 say or you have the batter on 2 strikes what usually entices the swing out the zone? what combination of pitches could draw the swing? any ideas guys. coz im not getting many swings by the CPU once on 2 strikes

xanadu71
Zelda55, don't put your datafile.txt in data/datafile folder but only in data folder where you have already a datafile.txt :p

Be aware, however, that they'll probably start getting more hits off of you.
vinnycast27
yeh this is a problem, they are getting between 9-15 each game anyway. my cure has been to make pitching difficulty: +27 (rather than 25) this way although the CPU still swings at nothing, it means im getting k's too because im getting a perfect 1/3 pitches which really helps a lot. funny how a change of +2 making pitching easier has increased k's, maintained walks to about 3-4 a game and hits of 5+ a game. *THINKE HE'S FOUND THE PERFECT SLIDER SETTINGS* :D

That's the frustrating part, you don't make them 'swing and miss' more, just swing more which results in way more balls in play.
vinnycast27
JIM I LOVE THIS DATA FILE!!!!! what a game, funny thing is i pulled pinero after 3 innings he walked in 3 walks when bases were loaded in the 2nd, what a come back though!
Jim825
Vinny - Glad to hear you're enjoying the datafile. Being a Yankees fan, however, I'm less than happy with your final results. I do have to say though that those results do seem to mirror real life, given the Yankees' struggles this year...... Looking at the boxscore, I have to ask -- Just out of curiosity, the Yankees didn't bring in Kevin Brown as a reliever in the late innings against you, did they?
vinnycast27
LOL he started, and lasted 5 innings. How did you know that a bad yankee's loss was partly due to kevin brown lol don't worry yankee's won game 2 of the series 3-2, damn that A.ROD  got 3 rbi's in that game. onto game 3...... schitonk
you should rename this datafile to 'total offense datafile' or 'if you want a team era over 7.50 and team batting avg. over .320 then this is the datafile for you'...

If you're getting those results, then perhaps you need to modify your sliders (reduce batting sliders to make batting harder and increase pitching sliders to make pitching easier for you). Or better yet, create your own datafile if you don't like this one...... :x
schitonk
i didnt say i didnt like it. i'm not used to giving up 6 homeruns per game tho. i've dropped cpu contact/power (-25) for both and still giving up 440ft bombs and not on mistakes. we'll see... vinnycast27
hey jim, i've just won a 13-5. 18 hits, 4 homers, 4 walks. very dominating to say the least, pitching is tough and im really happy with the results. im just playing surprisingly well at the moment when batting. im going to give all-star a go, i hope with the sliders you gave me and of course the data file it will make games tighter. im not sure if i read this somewhere, but is your data file aimed at pro level players, or should it still play well on all star? either way i'll give it a go and if i lose 9 out of my next 10 games it will be back onto pro wish me luck... schitonk
i play on all-star and my sliders are pretty different from what he recommended. i've played 5 games and won once. pro, different story. last game i played wade miller pitched a 3 hit shutout w/14K's and 1 walk, winning 9-0. that was with slider recommendations from this thread. i have been playing on all-star since the game came out tho. vinnycast27
im going to try out jistic's version 3 sliders with a few personal adjustments, because -50 pitch difficulty is a joke, despite what data file i use i always concede lots of homers when pitch difficulty is -50. no green zone what so ever, always producing a bad pitch over the plate. so far 0-3 on all star, hitting is no problem. just pitching is impossible. to counter the amout of hits the CPU is getting i decided to lower swing frequency, however this has lowered the chance of K;s. they are hard enough as it is, but when the CPU doesn't swing at anything off the plate its even harder. do you get k's as well as give up runs. i just want a nice balance. at the moment its all runs and walks, no k's at all. vinnycast27
ok, two complete game shout outs against me, and two losses of 9-0 and 12-0, clearly show im not good enough for all-star. back to pro it is, just made my first trades. i received two emails saying carl crawford and scott kazmir are on trading block, i managed to get them both for randy winn and gil meche who has an era or 7!!!! i've got fair trades on so was surprised to get them, anyways just a bit of advice for those who want to use this data file, i recommend PRO and not all-star, unless you can hit the perfect meter at least every other pitch. Jim825
I just modified my sliders to reduce the number of hits I seemed to be getting lately (I hadn't played in a while). I changed the following slider settings: Pitch meter difficulty - changed from +25 to +18 Pitch speed - changed from -15 to -10 Infielder speed - changed from -8 to -7 I've played two 7-inning games so far (with Total Classics). In the first game, the '78 Yankees (me) lost to the '66 Astros 2 -1, with 11 hits for the Yankees and 6 hits for the Astros. In the second game, the '96 Yankees (me) lost to the '70 Orioles 3-0, with both teams getting 6 hits. I'm going to use these settings for a while and see what happens. vinnycast27
hey jim, after talking to apr and 19 dynasty games later, i've decided to use your datafile v2. mainly because of camera 4, which is only with this datafile. plus i dont know why, but with v3 im getting treble's all the time ichiro hits a line drive. and i mean EVERY HIT lol with V2 this doesn't happen, in v3 i was dominating games but since i've used V2 im 10-9, which for the mariners plus Carl Crawford/Scott Kazmir/Lugo and Minus Randy Winn/gIL mEche/Lopez seems quite realistic. some games i get 6 k's with my starter some days 0, same with homers. i know this is a v3 thread but i just wanted to praise your work in V2 and to whoever made camera 4. IT RULES! 8)
Jim825
Vinny - The ONLY difference between v2 and v3 is SerialMike's Strikeout and Walk fix (I just uncompressed the two files, compared them and verified this). Nothing else was changed with regard to cameras, batting, etc., so I have no explanation why you're seeing the differences that you list. Did you try playing the exact same game (i.e. the same two teams, same sliders, same settings etc.) twice, once with v2 and once with v3 to compare the results? By the way, who is "apr" that you mention in your last post?
schitonk
well i went to pro cause no matter what i did on all-star i got rocked. even if pitches were perfect i got hit really hard while totally turning down batting for cpu. i've only played two games on pro (with my own sliders) but it's a lot closer to reality than all-star. whatever. i'll probably be dissatisfied in a couple days :D
