Need more offense

Recommended Posts

Both me and the CPU need more offense. It seems that every game I've played in this year's version ends up as 3-1, 2-0, 4-2. Many times, neither team gets more than 6 or 7 hits, and with walks as they are...not many baserunners.

No one seems to have any power. Even with both mine and CPU sliders at 50 for power, neither team smacks many HR. Longest ball hit I've seen has been 370-ish feet and that's from a 90+ Power hitter. Many times, the 90s guys can't even get the distance indicator to show up, meaning under 300 feet.

Even mistake pitches don't get pounded very often like in last year's game. I don't fear making mistakes in pitching or pitching in general like I did in last year's game.

Also, there's almost never contact on balls out of the strikezone. I know there shouldn't be many good contacts there, but even foul balls would suffice. Also, some hitters are good "bad ball" hitters, and it's impossible to simulate that it seems.

What can I do in the datafile and/or sliders to help out the offense?

I'm trying to get more walks (using the datafile layout made for last year's game and hoping for some reused variables) and am having some success. Randy Johnson walked 4 (1 IBB) in a game but K'd 10. That's something I can live with. Those walks bunched up, and I did put 3 runs on him in that inning to win..3-1

Also, is there a way to make offspeed pitches not take a year to get to the plate? I think that's messing up the timing. I know 80 is "slow" but that's still to the plate in a little over 1/2 second. It seems like a full second to second and a half on a slider, especially a "perfect" one.

1.stop using other peoples sliders that come with their data file

or

2. stop playing like me-i swing at everything.

or 3. buy a new pair of glasses to see the ball better.

4. have a good weekend.

This statement contridicts your entire post, to me that seems like a perfect playing experience you have there.

3 runs max vs Randy Johnson is understandable and expected.

3 runs max vs every guy good or bad doesn't make sense.

And like I said, it applies to the CPU hitters as well. I don't have 5 Randy Johnsons in my staff or a bullpen full of ace relievers - and the CPU still struggles to hit the ball hard even when I make mistakes. Like I said, I don't fear pitching to big bats. Doesn't sound like the "perfect" experience to me, or a very realistic one.

Considering I was throwing some AAA guy that day against the Yankees fully-healthy lineup, I don't think should have been able to hold them to 1 run as easily as I did. That doesn't sound like a perfect experience to me.

which datafile are you using and Like Gudraves post your slider setup. I am using rods 2.0 data with some of my mods and if my pitching is bad I get pounded. Try installing serialmikes walk and strike out fix. with this you will need to be very precise or you will get blasted. or try using jims 3.0 datafile.

one easy way is to just quit swinging at everything, which is probably what you're doing a lot of times. even if you think it will be a strike, lay off and wait for one that's going to result in a decent hit. you'll up your run production by at least 2 runs per game.

Right now I'm playing on All Star difficulty with the only adjustments to sliders from default (i.e. all 0's) are for steal delay (-11) and steal run speed (+20) to both user and CPU runners, User and CPU pitch control to -50, and pitch speed up to +10 in hopes of keeping the offspeed pitches from animating too slow for their speed on the gun (although all it's done so far is make fastballs faster)

All other sliders are at typically at 0. I put the power one up to +50 for both CPU and User in hopes for HR/harder hit balls on both sides, but no luck.

I'm using one of KSM's datafiles. Its one of the ESPN camera angle ones I believe.

Noted. :)

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to make myself practice taking pitches in exhibition mode. Probably tell myself not to swing until 2 strikes unless it's a mistake pitch/or more hittable like you said.

I know one thing I haven't gotten used to yet is how the ball animates (i.e. the depth perception in this one is different to me than last years) - but I wouldn't think the CPU would have a problem with it too, eh? :)

I play on All-star and had to lower Hum/CPU power to like -40. You must be swinging at everything.. I am going to have to get my sliders and post them. Not saying mine rule all, but maybe they will help since I consider myself average at best.

Also, what camera angle are you using? I use my own that is basically the view that the catcher would have but about 2 feet back. I like the perception much better that way and you can actually see more.

I'm using the center one but doesn't seem like it's anything like yours.

I'd love to see your sliders and camera settings when you get the chance if you feel like posting them.

HAHA, i find this game to be really amazing...when it comes to baseball, its as real as it can get videogamewise..well, after a few slider ajustments. The hitting is something you have to learn and it takes a while. You really have to keep an eye on the ball..cause i can tell whats a ball and whats a strike, it just comes down to if i should swing for that strike depending on the situation. But belive me, once you learn how to see the ball you realize how well EA did with the hitting, its great..just keep learning..keep your eyes on the ball and you'll get it..it just takes patiance. I play at All-star with +20 hitting, and +5 power and my stats are pretty close to the average of most baseball teams...so belive me the game is good, you just have to learn it.
