spitoon
1st thing would be how much cash you are willing to spend? And what model of Dell do you have? Some of them don't have an AGP slot, meaning that your graphics card choices would be severely limited. PCI cards are still available, but they are scarce, plus their performance level is way below that of an AGP card of the same generation...better than the integrated solution you currently have, but not by much. five
I won't get into it, legality wise, but there is a user here selling a good card at a great price: http://www.mvpmods.com/index.php?name=Foru...p=140680#140680
spitoon
I'm using a GeForce Ti4200 and that's about as low as I'd suggest. People are able to use lesser cards than that, but generally with reduced options etc... If you stick to the Radeon 9600Pro and up (9600XT, 9700, 9700Pro, 9800, 9800Pro, 9800XT, X600, X700, X800) you'll be very happy. Stay away from LE and SE editions of these cards. For Nvidia brand, I'd recommend at the very least a GeForce FX5200 (128Bit model), which will do MVP fine, but won't do any of the newer FPS games. If you go up to the 5900 line, or even better into the 6600 and 6600GT, or 6800 and 6800GT (or Ultra if you have cash to burn ) you'll be in great shape. Slickmarcusvick needs to be careful and determine what kind of card his machine can accomodate before he goes and buys one. Ideally he has an AGP slot, if not he'll need to get a PCI card. In which case he is probably limited to a GeForce 5200, 5500 (very rare), or Radeon 9200.
WesleyanCowboy
I agree with Spitoon completely. Slickmarcusvick needs to do some research into what type of video-slot his motherboard has and be careful what he gets. If it is a "standard Dell one" that can mean anything from an on-board Intel Graphics Accelerator with shared-system memory to a PCI-E slot... depends on his model. Just do your homework man, Spitoon was right on with his recommendation... and if you do have a wad of extra cash laying around and an AGP slot I would personally recommend an ATi x800 Pro or XT... that is what I have (an XT) and it runs EVERYTHING like a beast. Slickmarcusvick, if you are not sure what kind of video-slot your motherboard has (not trying to insult your intelligence, some people don't know and are unsure how to find out) I can help if you would like. Just send me a PM with your model-type (ie: Dell Dimension 4700) and we will narrow it down until we find it. I am a Dell Authorized Reseller and Technician and would be happy to help a fellow MVP'er if you need.
FBeaule04
If I have a Radeon 9600XT, will I found a major difference with the Radeon X800? When I mean Major, it's Major with a capital M. I have my 9600XT for 15 months now, and I'm happy, but I'm the kind of guy who can't be happy since there is always better video card on the market. UncleMo
SlickMarcusVick, Find out if your PC has one of the 3: AGP slots for your video card PCI slots for yoru video card or PCI Express slots. IF you have AGP or PCI Express be happy. If you have PCI slots you may want to get a different PC altogether. :| FBeaule04 If you get a new card how much would you sell your 9600xt for? And, is that AGP or PCI Express? I've got the 9200 ATI Radeon and I may want a new card soon to play other games. Oh, and slick, if you want to save money and only play this game get the 9200 ATI Radeon 128mb card. It is cheap. If you're going to play some mad games on PC then don't listen to me. It would end up in my second Computer who have a GE Force M440 MX or something like that. The X800 would be AGP and the 9600 XT is AGP too. :-)

Yes, an X800 will give a MAJOR performance boost over a 9600XT. Some of it depends on the rest of your computer (processor and memory), but card to card the X800 blows the doors off a 9600XT

It is running smoothly as of now, but I would like to double up the RAM and have a X800. I know some would say that I should wait for the X900, but I think it's better two wait for the price to go down before buying a new product. :-)
Seven7
NO! I hope so. I bought MVP Baseball 2005 used for like $20 and if I have to spend over $100 in order to play it... I had/have the generic Intel graphics card that came with my Dell Dimension 2350 a couple years ago. Are you saying "NO!" because you don't like it and there are others that are better, or are you saying "NO!" because it simply won't work? I'm thinking what it is giving me right now, anything would be an improvement... If this card is that terrible, I'll return it before I go home. I bought it this morning because I was tired of not seeing the show while I was playing the game. ...maybe I should have found this website 2 days ago. cmm392
I have an FX5200...would I see a difference in MVP/Madden if i went up to a 9800PRO or an x800/x800XL? I really want to run MVP at its full potential so the environments and players look amazing and it runs extremely smooth. JP_Frost
how can I find out what type of video slot my motherboard has? I'm looking into buying a new card as well ( I still run games on a Geforce 420 MX or something like that ) Okay, I did some research on my computer and here are the specs: Dell Dimension 8200 2,53 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 8 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Bus Clock: 133 megahertz 80 GB disk space and I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 video card. all I wanna know is if I can upgrade to an ati radeon 9600xt card or maybe something better that you guys can recommend. i don't wanna go out and a buy a new card just to find out that it doesn't work on my comp. any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Seven7
An AGP slot is usually brownish in color on the motherboard and it is usually the top most slot under the CPU. Should have 3 notches in the card and slot. There's usually just one on a standard motherboard PCI is usually white and has 1 slot on the card and notch. There's usually 4 of them on a motherboard for the modem and network card and sound card, etc... If you open up your PC and find that the existing video card is seated in a brown slot, you can get an AGP video card.
JP_Frost
I now know that I have an AGP slot. However, my comp supplies 30 watt power for my current videocard and supposedly the newer ones demand more than that, so it seems like I have to upgrade that as well. anyway...I just wanna ask which card is best for me to use. I've been looking at the ATI 9600xt/pro 128 mb, but maybe some other cards are comparable or better. My budget isn't anything crazy, so I won't go over 200 bucks for a new videocard. any suggestions? The AGP slot will provide 30Watts and then most newer video cards will also require you to plug in an additional power source directly from the PSU...you should have a couple of extra plugs hanging around inside your computer. The only concern would be whether or not your PSU can handle the extra stress. Any way of finding out how many watts your PSU is rated for??? There should be a sticker on the side of the PSU. JP_Frost
this is what I found in my computer manual: DC Power Supply Wattage: 250W Heat dissipation: 534 BTU Voltage ( switch-selectable on back panel ): 90 to 135 V at 60 Hz; 180 to 265 V at 50 HZ It also says that I have AGP and PCI bus types and that I have 4 PCI connectors. Dunno if that means anything. I haven't opened up the computer ( I'm kinda hesitant to mess around with stuff like that :duh: )
