All power supplys are not equal....A no name brand power supply rated 550w for 30 or 40 bucks will do you more harm than good...read article and learn what the ratings mean on the sticker...http://www.bleedinedge.com/guides/psu_select/psu_select_01.html

The power supply is the most important piece of your computer......many have upgraded there mobo and or graphics card spending big bucks on these items only to skimp when it comes to the powersupply....behind the scenes the power supply can cause many problems that have you wondering whats wrong...like random lockups.....sudden crashes and so on....do yourself a favor and read the article then look at your sticker on your power supply and see the difference.

this is what I found in my computer manual:

DC Power Supply

Wattage: 250W

Heat dissipation: 534 BTU

Voltage ( switch-selectable on back panel ): 90 to 135 V at 60 Hz; 180 to 265 V at 50 HZ

It also says that I have AGP and PCI bus types and that I have 4 PCI connectors. Dunno if that means anything.

I haven't opened up the computer ( I'm kinda hesitant to mess around with stuff like that :duh: )

I'd have to say that 250W won't be enough....most of the newer graphics cards will require at least 300W and more like 350W. If you're going to replace the PSU listen to what Lars777 said, don't buy a cheap one...

If I have a Radeon 9600XT, will I found a major difference with the Radeon X800? When I mean Major, it's Major with a capital M. I have my 9600XT for 15 months now, and I'm happy, but I'm the kind of guy who can't be happy since there is always better video card on the market.

Are those better/newer than 9800 PRO?

The 9600XT is an older model than the 9800PRO...the x800 will knock the socks off of a 9600XT or 9800PRO by the way.

You gonna get what you pay for......did you read the specs on that power supply.....

Just look at the +12v rail....its 16a......should be 21a....on a decent power supply......that power supply will not in noway shape or form deliver a constant 400w.

look at the specs....write them down then go compare in the article and see for yourself.

I know many do not have funds to spend for a good power supply......but try and save till you get enough to get like an Antec Truepower or something similar......you will need to spend around 80.00 to 110.00 on a good power supply......do not ever skimp on the most important piece in your computer.....especially if you have spent lots of cash building your own machine..............just smart advice!

There is nothing wrong with that power supply i posted. Its not an elite power supply but it is decent. Its a 400w psu for 20 bucks after a rebate.

21a on the 12v line is in the really elite range. By the way, do not buy antec. Antec is generally higher priced than its competitors with equvivalent performance. If you want price and performance, go for sparkle or ocz.

If you want a good power supply for a moderate price, go for this ocz.

its a 520w priced at 90 bucks.

Oh and its 26a on the 12v line if that matters to you. I personally have this power supply.
