Brian
Hey, im 16 yrs old... I usually play LF or CF and I play for Babe Ruth league, we have had 2 of our ace pitchers suspended for the next game, and coach wanted me to pitch. I have probably the 2nd strongest arm on our team, and semi-good accuracy. I know some pitching, not that bad at it. But I have one question, I am not 100% sure what a bock is, and I dont want to do it on accident tomorrow. I know its when you cant move any body part toward the home plate without pitching, or something like that. But a clearer explanation would be better. Also, if you have any tips for my first game pitching tomorrow, feel free to post. Thanks!
Stix
An illegal motion by a pitcher when one or more runners are on base; can be a pretend throw, or too long a pause during a windup or stretch; runners are allowed to advance when a balk is called. Taken from here: http://www.enlexica.com/sp/bb/index.html Hope this helps.
fundusglobus
also, when from the stretch make sure you come set. Count to 3 then start your motion. Oh and when bringing the ball to your glove dont let it hit your leg and fall to the ground, its also a balk :wall:
Fastflink2009
And don't flinch or anything when you come set, also some umpires will call a balk if you turn your shoulders to look at a runner, so maybe ask the umpires before the game what their personal rules are and ask your coach.
