See the last page for the latest series and team updates!

I felt like posting this one when I started it a long time ago, but never did and now that I'm bored I think I'll do it now, despite being at June 21 in the season.

I'd like to make this one spiffy like some of the other dynasties on here (my favourite being Apr's A's, hence my thread's name), but I don't want to put that much time into it, and with my awful video card the images would have low player detail and no crouds.

Anyways, I plan on giving a weekly or bi weekly update on my team, maybe with some pictures of things that I think are interesting, but not for every game. First of all, I'll update on everything I've done so far...

I'd like to have Mauer playing against lefties too, but Greene just crushes them and Mauer is barely a AAA hitter against them.

Hatteberg still plays a lot against righties as well because he's been amazing for me this season. Him and Johnson basically platoon vs RHP.

Crosby has been out most of the year with injuries. Scutaro has been a much better than expected replacement at SS (just like in real life), and Ginter was mashing at 2B, but is currently injured.

Orr, Scutaro, and Thomas are often used as defensive replacements in close games, as well as Johnson on occasion. (but he's only a slight upgrade)

Keith Ginter is out for 4 more days with a minor ACL sprain.

SP - Rich Harden

SP - Joe Blanton

SP - Danny Haren

SP - Juan Cruz

LRP - Kaz Tadano

MRP - Kiko Calero

MRP - Brandon League

SRP - JC Romero

CLP - Huston Street

Barry Zito is out for 33 more days with a broken arm which he got from a line drive. In that same game (vs ATL) he was 3 for 3 with a HR and 2 singles, and had taken a 4 hit shutout into the 6th inning.

My pitching staff is shaky (ranked 30th in the league) so it's a good thing I score a lot of runs.

I'm considering reacquiring Ricardo Rincon to give myself another lefty. Ryan Wagner is in the minors, and I dont trust him much in the majors. Jairo Garcia has been iffy in Sacramento, and there's nobody else I'd want to call up for relief.

Anyways, that's my season so far. I'll be uploading some SavReader stuff in a little bit so you can see the stats and the lineups are easier for me to update.

I'd love to hear any comments or criticism so fire them my way.

I will have some SavReader stuff uploaded as soon as I can find my ftp password.

Until then, I'm considering who I'm willing to trade at or before the deadline.

Danny Haren has been pretty below average for me despite an 8-5 record. My only reason not to trade him is that I'm already playing 5th starter tag, I'd have to get a starter as good or better than him in return to fill the 4th spot.

Would like to have a fifth starter that I can trust, but really, Juan Cruz has been an awesome starter for me, much better than he's been as a reliever, so unless something comes up that I can't turn down, Cruz may just own the spot.

Kaz Tadano has a good ERA, but I just don't like using him very much.

Kiko Calero is bitching about his contract, and with the way League has pitched for me, with Wagner in the minors although he is shaky, I may deal him, but I'd still want a middle reliever in return.

Still interested in getting Rincon back, but there are some other lefties out there I may turn to.

JC Romero has been AMAZING this season, leading the majors in ERA at 1.05. A smart manager would put him in the closers role in a second, but Street's high ERA is a result of 2 or 3 bad outings that cost him.

Should be interesting anyways.

If you've been following my dynasty, which you should of been, you probably have seen some of the trades I made and how they helped my squad by leaps and bounds.

BTW - Is Duchscherer your Ace?

A's Make Another Swap With Twins

6/28 - The Oakland Athletics announced today that they have reacquired lefty RP Ricardo Rincon, along with 2B Nick Punto in exchange for SP Britt Reames and 3B David Kelton.

The deal makes the A's already deep bullpen even deeper, which resulted in RP Brandon League being assigned to AAA Sacramento. With RP Kaz Tadano on the trade block however, it may be a short assignment.

The A's also signed CF Mark Kotsay to a 3 year, $19.5 million contract extension, and P Justin Duchscherer to a 3 year, $1.5 million deal.

Still awaiting my ftp password and savreader info will be available with all stats, standings, leaders, and player profiles.

Enjoy.

edit: problem solved, MLB and AAA info is all there. AA will only come if you people really want to see it, otherwise it's too much time for me.

A's Make Bullpen Upgrade

7/2 - The Oakland Athletics announced today that they have acquired RP LaTroy Hawkins from the Chicago Cubs, along with minor league OF Peter Bergeron. In exchange, the A's send RP Kiko Calero and minor league SP Steve Sparks.

The A's also dealt C Todd Greene to the San Diego Padres for minor league 1B Todd Sears.

and possibly a much more interesting announcement....

Player To Be Named Later Arrives

7/2 - Athletics manager Ken Macha was sitting in his office this morning when one of the organization's players to be named later arrived.

Macha was pleasently surprised that journeyman catcher Crash Davis was going to be a member of the club for the 2nd half of the season.

Davis will serve as a backup to Joe Mauer, but will see many chances to hit vs. left handed pitching.

whew. tried to make that one interesting.

Davis is actually a crappy minor league catcher from SD that I threw into the deal so I could turn him into the man from Bull Durham. I tried to make his ratings similar to what they are in the movie, and I think I nailed it pretty well.

He's hardly ever going to play unless it's a crucial situation vs. a LHP because Mauer only has 40ish ratings against them, or the occasional day when Mauer is too tired.

As for the other, real trade, I think it greatly improves the bullpen and was worth adding a few million to the payroll. For some reason (must have been an injury), Hawkins has only pitched 16 innings on the season and is PISSED OFF.

I really like how the bullpen is shaping up, but I'd still like to trade Kaz Tadano for a more reliable SP to fill the 5th spot. I like both Duchscherer and Cruz, but both of them in the rotation is a little much for me while Zito is out.

A bit more news to deliver. RP Ryan Wagner has hit the 15 day DL with a pulled hamstring, so RP Brandon League has been recalled.

I know his 10 days didn't pass but there's a lot of things in this game that don't follow the rules so I guess this will be one from my end.

justin ducscherer and company were officially raped last night by a score of 19-0 thanks to the chicago white sox.

i was using a new datafile and sliders, so pitching mostly ended up in line drives and HRs. i didn't have a single guy on base for the entire game, and 1 hit in total by joe mauer who tried stretching to a double and was thrown out.

buehrle struck out six and walked 0, with one hit against him.

BOBBY CROSBY HITS FOR THE CYCLE

Although I kinda cheated to get it.

With one out and a runner on second, Crosby hits a single to RF. Scutaro is on 2B and normally I wouldnt send him home in this case, but I did so I could get Crosby to 2. Scutaro thrown out easily but Crosby has the double he needed to complete the cycle.

A's Get Jordan From Braves

7/21 - The Oakland Athletics announced today that they have traded RP Kaz Tadano and minor league Of Peter Bergeron to the Atlanta Braves for 38 year old LF Brian Jordan, and pitching prospect Kyle Davies.

Barry Zito and Ryan Wagner have also come off the DL today. Wagner will slide into the A's bullpen and Zito is scheduled to start in tommorow in Texas. Brandon League and Charles Thomas have been reassigned to AAA Sacramento to accomodate the moves.

--

As the trade deadline nears, it has become obvious that my team is a leginimate contender, and although this is a rebuilding year and I don't plan on trading any real prospects, I feel that it is worth some extra money to make a playoff run and give the young guys experience.

With room to improve the lineup vs. LHP, I figured Jordan was a relatively inexpensive addition with a wealth of experience, and he'll play RF or DH when there's a southpaw on the mound.

Davies is a top prospect and leaves me with 4 guys in the minors that are potentially future MLB aces.

With Zito returning to the rotation, Justin Duchscherer will return to the long relief role, and Juan Cruz will remain as the 5th starter.

how do you change 4 players for 2 players?

I mixed together a collection of those players in 2 for 1s to make sure the CPU thought it was fair, and then I turned off fair trades and traded 3 for 2, then another one for a single A player who was worth nothing.

Hawkins Experiment Fails, A's Deal Again

7/30 - RP LaTroy Hawkins never fit in with the Oakland Athletics during his 3 week stint in the A's pen, and was dealt today along with RP Ryan Wagner to the Boston Red Sox for SP David Wells and minor league RP Blaine Neal.

The Red Sox were looking to build for next season after the midway point had them sitting 12 games under .500. Wagner is a prospect who is slipping fast on the depth charts and Hawkins has been shaky ever since he left the Minnesota Twins via free agency.

Wells will slide into the 3rd spot in the rotation behind Rich Harden, giving the A's an experienced veteran to help lead them to the playoffs.

The 2nd year of his 2 year, $8 million contract was bought out by the A's for $200,000, meaning they will now only pay him what remains on his 2005 contract before he becomes a free agent.

---

How this breaks down for me: Wagner was crap, League is better, Garcia will be there in 2006. The rotation was falling apart. Zito has been the only consistent one, and was injured for a month. Harden's ERA is above 5, and Danny Haren leads the staff with 11 wins, but with another ERA above 5. Blanton was the only other consistent one, and Juan Cruz was not a quality starter for a playoff run.

I'm very comfortable with the pitching staff now, and the only way something is going to change is if I am offered a good deal or if someone amazing catches my eye.

How I'm looking now....

Six Fingers Alfonseca Joins A's On Deadline Day

I've made two deals on deadline day, one affecting the major league roster, one not.

The first sees RP Antonio Alfonseca coming to Oakland from the Florida Marlins in exchange for minor leaguers SP Scott Olsen and RP Jimmy Serrano.

alfonseca.PNG

As you can see, his numbers are pretty good this year and he'll be used in middle relief. Brandon League has been good, but he's not the kind of guy I want to be trusting if I'm going to make a run in the playoffs.

The other trade was just to help the catching situation in the minors. C Bobby Estalalalllalallellalala joining the River Cats from Cincinatti's AAA club along with 3B Garett Atkins (who the acquired a few days earlier) in exchange for AAA OF Rob Ryan and AA C Steve Jackson.

Esta... will pair with Daric Barton at AAA, while I decide if/when I'm going to transfer him to a different position, while Kurt Suzuki can return to AA and get more playing time.

For the rest of the year I plan on giving an update after each series, with a picture or two to make it interesting.

Also, I know MVP doesn't allow for 40 man rosters in September, but as soon as my minor league teams are done, I'll put together my own 40 man roster of guys I'm going to give some playing time to in the bigs or I just want available in the case of injury. To do this I'll have to do a lot of call ups and send downs, but it's no big deal.

A's Swept By Tigers

Embarassing, I know. They're last place in the AL central, yet my pitching staff was terrible giving up 21 runs over the 3 games. The offense wasn't great, but I don't expect them to just keep scoring runs until the pitchers stop giving them up.

Game 1: 10-4 L

WP: Mike Maroth

LP: Rich Harden

Game 2: 4-2 L

WP: Jason Johnson

LP: David Wells (only allowed 2 runs over 7)

S: Troy Percival

Game 3: 7-4 L

WP: Gary Knotts

LP: Joe Blanton

S: Troy Percival

Texas is still 6.5 back, so I've got some breathing room. SavReader update coming soon.

tigers1.pngtigers2.pngtigers3.pngtigers4.pngtigers5.png

1) Mark Kotsay dives safely into 2nd base for the steal

2) Nick Swisher breaks up the double play, forcing a wild throw from Omar Infanta

3) Dmitri Young jogs the bases after his solo homer in the 3rd inning

4) Mark Kotsay beats the throw for a bunt base hit

5) Magglio Ordonez robs Dan Johnson of a 3-run home run in the 6th

Both teams are wearing their 1972 throwbacks.

These photos are all from the final game of the series. Next time around I'll have photos from different games in each series.
