not denying that, i have a weak system and video card. i did however find a setting that allowed me to display crowds and increase gameplay speed a bit, so its smoother. just sacrificed a bit of detail.

so you'll notice a difference between david wells and the player screens.

and the graphics is one of my least concerns.

A's Split Series With Twins

The run support didn't show up for the A's pitching staff in this series whatsoever. The highlight of the series was a complete game, 1-0 shutout for Barry Zito, who won the battle of the aces against Johan Santana. David Wells was given nothing in his 2nd start with the A's, losing 2-1. Hopefully an easy series against Kansas City so I can prepare for the Angels (although they're in last, still ranked 4th) and the Twins again.

1) Matt Watson robs Torii Hunter of a home run at the left field wall

2) Scott Hatteberg gets caught sleeping at 1st base as he gets picked off by Brad Radke

3) Eric Chavez and the rest of the A's are degraded after their opening game loss

4) The spirits are much higher after their 1-0 shutout of the Twins behind Barry Zito's complete game shutout

5) Chavez watches his solo shot leave Metropolitan Stadium in the 5th inning

6) Mark Kotsay takes 2nd base for his 50th steal of the season

A's End Road Trip At 3-3

Heads would have rolled if I didn't take 2 of 3 in this series, but game 2 of the series was very dissapointing. The offense just wasn't doing anything. I'd get a runner on, often in scoring position, and nothing would happen. It didn't help that Danny Haren was awful too. The first game was a gem by Joe Blanton, as was the finale. Zito didn't give up a run until the 7th inning, and had few problems striking out 8 over 8 innings.

In the opener, Huston Street had a literally rolling ground ball hit him in the foot. He picked up the ball and made the play, but then I was told he BROKE HIS LEG. There was no way I could accept that so I exited and replayed the game.

I'll accept injuries if they're realistic, like when Zito took a liner off the arm and it was broken early in the year, but when its like that I won't accept it.

1) Eric Chavez watches his 3-run jack leave the park in a 6-0 A's win.

2) Brian Jordan slides safely into third with a triple, but would be stranded there along with most A's runners in a 13-4 loss.

3) Bobby Crosby lays down a sac bunt in the 2nd inning to advance Eric Byrnes to 3rd

4) Terrence Long is punched out looking for Barry Zito's 6th K in the series finale

5) Crosby and Byrnes are impressed by a Huston Street K in the 9th

6) Marco Scutaro, Nick Swisher, and Mike Cuddyer celebrate the A's 4-1 win

AG315P-64 is what Belarc Advisor tells me.

I'm forced to keep player detail on a low setting.

And don't take that David Wells photo as an example, because I blurred out the entire background on purpose, so it doesn't look like that in the game at all.

I also found a way to tweak the settings that allows me to display the crowds without hurting gameplay speed, so I think the pictures look better.

Stuff like helmet reflections don't work, and player detail is low, but it doesn't bother me that much.

A's Take 2 of 3 From Halos

The strong Angels lineup gave me some troubles in the series, but proved why they're last in the AL West when they couldn't manufacture runs late in the game and gave away runs with awful defense.

Harden redeemed his self in the opener, and got a ton of run support. Wells once again got no support and after leaving the 7th having only given up 2 earned runs, Justin Duchscherer and the defense gave up 5 more (2 earned) to lose 7-1. The final was a great outing from Joe Blanton, and the offense showed up again for an 8-4 victory.

1) Bobby Crosby is taken out heavily at 2nd base by Juan Rivera.

2) This time Crosby completes the 3-6-1 double play, with Rivera bearing down on him again.

3) Mike Scioscia calls for the pitching change after Brendan Donnelly gives up a 2-run double in the 8th.

4) Marco Scutaro is safe at home on a perfect hook slide to avoid the tag of Jose Molina.

5) On the next play, Joe Mauer is tagged out at the plate on a gun from Vladimir Guerrero in RF.

6) Mauer doesn't know why I accidently pressed the "argue call" button and got tossed.

7) Daric Barton jogs the bases after hitting a 2-run jack in the 4th inning of one of the few AAA games I decide to play.

A's Continue Homestand, Win 2 of 3 vs. Twins

The MVP Baseball gods must hate David Wells, because in the first few innings it seemed like nobody could catch the ball. 2 errors were made on the same play in the 2nd inning, and Bobby Crosby had 3 errors in the 1st on his own. Barry Zito and Rich Harden were amazing again, and when JC Romero blew the lead in the 7th inning of game 2, he was lights out in the 8th and part of the 9th to force extra innings and set the table for the walkoff shot by Joe Mauer.

Eric Chavez had a lot of trouble hitting in the series, but guys like Scott Hatteberg and Marco Scutaro (Ginter went down in the first game with a pulled hamstring) picked up the slack and kept the team going.

Now comes the Orioles who should be tough, and then I can rest some guys against the Royals next week.

Game 1: 6-3 W

WP: Barry Zito (12-4)

LP: Britt Reames (0-1)

S: Huston Street (23)

Game 2: 5-3 W

WP: Huston Street (3-4)

LP: Juan Rincon (6-7)

Game 3: 9-3 L

WP: Brad Radke (13-8)

LP: David Wells (6-8)

1) Twins 3B Brent Butler throws out Matt Watson from beyond the hot corner.

2) The scene at McAfee Coliseum after Scott Hatteberg's 2-run home run to give the A's a lead.

3) Dan Johnson prevents a run scoring double down the first base line with his diving catch in the 7th inning.

4) Joe Mauer is greeted at the plate by Marco Scutaro after his walkoff home run in the 10th.

5) Bobby Crosby (at the plate) and Mark Kotsay (running) execute the hit and run.

6) Ken Macha was furious with the ump after an awful call at first base in game 3.

7) The ERRORS are what screwed over David Wells once again, dropping his record to 6-8. 6 runs were scored off of him, but only 2 were earned.

Again, 2 of 3 - This Time vs. O's

Joe Blanton was the next A's pitcher left out to dry in the opening game of the series, losing 4-0 mostly because of the defense. Danny Haren again got a ton of run support in a poorly pitched game where he allowed 5 runs, but had 11 in support. And finally, Barry Zito with a complete game shutout backed by 8 runs from the offense. If I could find some consistency from both ends of the game, I'd be happy, but for now I guess as long as I'm still winning, these crazy games are fine by me.

Game 1: 4-0 L

WP: Bruce Chen (13-7)

LP: Joe Blanton (11-6)

Game 2: 11-5 W

WP: Danny Haren (12-9)

LP: Sidney Ponson (5-7)

Game 3: 8-0 W

WP: Barry Zito (13-4)

LP: Daniel Cabrera (5-9)

1) Eric Chavez watches his grand slam leave the park in the 2nd game - and then another grand slam in the third game!

2) Eric Byrnes prevents a run scoring double from Miguel Tejada

3) (in the background) Bobby Crosby catches a liner over his head, and doubles up David Newhan at first base.

4) Larry Bigbie is frozen by the 12-6 hook of Barry Zito.

5) Look what I found! Nick Swisher plays self-defense in catching a line drive off the bat of Sammy Sosa.

6) Mark Kotsay bunts for a hit and is safe at first on the late throw by Melvin Mora.

7) The A's celebrate taking 2 of 3 from the Orioles.

8) Zito's pitching line in the final game of the series, backed up by ground ball after ground ball finishing the game at 92 pitches for the win.

Next up: a sleeper versus the Royals.

I was simming prob 25% of games at the start, but lately I've been playing them all.

Also when I started the thread, I was into June.

The only times I sim is when I'm either blowing out a team or getting blown out and I have already taken some good snapshots.

Harden Out For a Month

Rich Harden took a line drive off the foot and broke a toe in his start versus the Kansas City Royals today. Doctors say he will be out for the next month.

Taking his place in the rotation will be Justin Duchscherer for the time being.

OF Charles Thomas has been recalled from AAA Sacramento.

A's Get To 15 Over .500, Pay The Price

Well I've gotten very close to locking up the AL West after taking 2 of 3 from the Kansas City Royals. My team paid a big price however in losing Rich Harden for 29 days due to a broken toe. Justin Duchscherer will slide into the rotation in Harden's place, but will see limited starts because A's manager Ken Macha will be using off-days to set up a four man rotation until Harden returns.

kc1.png

Rich Harden reacts after taking a line drive off the foot in the first game of the series.

With Harden's outing cut short after 4 innings, Duchscherer was brought in to help get the A's back in the game. He combined with Ricardo Rincon and Antonio Alfonseca to pitch the final 5 innings scoreless, but the offense provided no assistance in a 2-1 loss.

kc2.png

Billy Koch celebrates shutting down the A's 1-2-3 in the 9th

David Wells took the hill for the Athletics in the second game of the series, holding the Royals to 1 run over 6.2 innings and leading the A's to an 8-1 victory. The defense was the story in the victory with many highlight reel plays to save runs.

kc3.pngkc4.png

Left: Fatty delivers a pitch in the 3rd inning of the victory. Right: Nick Swisher saves a home run at the right field wall.

The Royals' pitchers were awful in the third game, as Jose Lima surrendered 6 runs over 3 innings and Joe Blanton cruised over 6 innings for the win. JC Romero finished it off over the last 3 innings for a save. I'm definitly going to be tweaking the hitting settings to give me some closer games after these two games.

kc5.pngkc6.png

Left: Eli Marrero was thrown out at the plate by Mark Kotsay in the 2nd inning. Right: Keith Ginter and Bobby Crosby collided in the 8th trying to turn a double play.

kc7.png

Joe Blanton isn't agreeing with what Ken Macha has to say early in the 7th inning before getting yanked a few batters later.

A's Drop 2 In Detroit

Not a very well played series on my part against a team that's not in the playoff hunt. Barry Zito upped his record to 14-4 with a 7-2 A's win, however Danny Haren was awful in his start, giving up 5 runs in 2 innings before being pulled for Justin Duchscherer.

Danny Haren was awful in this start, giving up 5 runs in 2 innings before being pulled for Justin Duchscherer. Duke held the Tigers to just 1 more run over the next 3.1 innings, but the A's couldn't come back and lost 6-4. With a 5.79 ERA, Haren is not looking like a guy who will be brought back to Oakland in 2006, at least not for his current asking price, or as the 4th starter in the rotation.

detroit1.pngdetroit2.png

Left: Ivan Rodriguez has some trouble with a ball in the dirt from Jeremy Bonderman. Right: The Oakland bench is frustrated by the loss.

Barry Zito had one of his weaker outings of the season in terms of hits, but was still able to hold the Tigers to 2 runs and upped his record to 14-4. Huston Street managed the 4 out save, but the 9th was easy with the A's putting another 3 runs on the board in the top of the inning.

detroit3.pngdetroit4.png

Left: Zito hits Pudge on the leg with a pitch in the 6th inning. Right: Bobby Crosby connects with a 2-run double in the 5th.

David Wells had another great outing for the A's, holding Detroit to 1 run over 6 innings. The bullpen blew it for him in the 8th however. Antonio Alfonseca allowed a runner on to lead off the 8th after pitching a perfect 7th, Ricardo Rincon gave up a sac bunt, and Street gave up a double to score the runner from second and tie the game. An error from Eric Byrnes allowed the runner on 2nd to advance home on a single, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead. The bats were shut down in order by Troy Percival to end the game.

detroit5.pngdetroit6.png

Left: Mark Kotsay gives us "shades of Willy Mays" in centerfield.. Right: Ken Macha calls Street in from the pen.

detroit7.png

Carlos Pena and the Tigers celebrate the come from behind win.

Next up is a key series in Baltimore... stay tuned.

Blanton On The DL, League Suspended

Had a very interesting game with the Orioles. After a few altercations, Joe Blanton, Brandon League, Eric Byrnes, Javy Lopez, Jay Gibbons, and both managers were tossed in a game of beaneballs, injuries, and arguements.

I'll explain the whole thing later. I did take the worst of it however, as Joe Blanton broke his finger when Javy Lopez charged the mound. He's on the DL for 15 days, and Brandon League was suspended 5 days for plunking Jay Gibbons in the 6th inning.

Taking Blanton's place on the roster will be Dan Meyer. With the AAA pitching an absolute mess statistically, it can't hurt him at all to be with the big club instead of the team that slipped from 2 games out to 12 within a month.

Here's the updated lineups...

lineup.gif

Will have the report on the Baltimore series tommorow night after I play the 4th game.
