futzy99
It was all in a fantasy draft, so... I really didn't alter any of it, except for letting the CPU optimize my rosters. THE RED SOX WIN ON THE LONG BALL Boston 9, New York 1 In the first game of the season, the Red Sox won mainly ont he back of home runs. Six players homered, including back to backs by Marcus Giles and Jose Reyes and Alex Rodriguez and Miguel Cabrera. Joey Gathright and Albert Pujols also homered. Rich Harden had a superb night, pitching a complete game, with only one run allowed. He also had 5 strikeouts. Barry Zito didn't have as good of a time, giving up 10 hits in 5+ innings. Quotes: Gathrigth: When I hit that homer, I was just trying to drive one deep to score Carl [Crawford], but, you know man, I guess it just carried. Harden: Well, my splitter was working well for me, tonight. I just hope I can have the same kind of game next time I pitch. Noteables: BOS Joey Gathright: 2/5 1 HR 2 RBI Alex Rodriguez: 3/5 1 HR 1 RBI NY Adam Melheuse: 3/4 Next Game: Edwin Jackson (0-0) @ Mike Maroth (0-0)
futzy99
RED SOX WIN WITH SMATTERING OF HITS Boston 16, New York 2 Jose Reyes gets taken out by Damion Easley, but completes the double play; Rob Thompson robs Albert Pujols of his second home run In the second game of the season, it seems that the Red Sox have found their stroke. They had 22 hits in this game, and 16 runs. All of the starters had at least one hit. A-Rod continues to swing a hot bat with 4 hits, 2 of them being home runs. Edwin Jackson had a good outing on the mound for the Sox, going eight innings and giving up only 2 runs over that stretch. Danny Graves came in for the 9th. Quotes: Rodriguez: I dunno, I was just on tonight. I hit that first homer and it felt so good, so I decided to do it again. Pujols (on how it felt to be robbed of two hits): It was OK when Horacio [Ramirez] made that diving stop in the hole, he's a young guy and I like him, but I was mad when I got my homer robbed. That was a beautiful pitch to hit, and I was mad that I couldn't get it any further out. Noteables: BOS Alex Rodriguez: 4/5 2 HR 3 RBI Marcus Giles: 3/5 2 HR 5 RBI NY Shawn Green: 2/4 1 RBI Next game: Danny Haren (0-0) @ Jason Jennings (0-0)
futzy99
Bosox Sweep Yanks! Boston 6, New York 4 Gonzo for Gagne: the Canuck nails down his first save of the year Unlike the last two games, this one was one on small ball and pitching. Danny Haren had control problems early on, and left after 6 innings, with the score 3-1 in favor of the Sox. Jesus Colome gave up a two run home run to the catcher Adam Melhouse, his second of the game, to take the win away from Haren. After three runs the next inning, curtosy of a two run double by Marcus Giles, Dotel came in and gave up a one run shot to the leadoff man, Iguchi, but struck out Green to squelch any comeback hopes. Gagne was lights out in the ninth to get the save. Quotes: Melhouse: I don't knwo why I'm doing so well against the Sox. Maybe I'm the next Bambino, or something. Colome: Man, that fool Melhouse thinks he's so good after he hit that. I left a slider out over the plate. I mean, come on! I could have hit that out. Noteables: BOS Albert Pujols: 4/5 1 HR 2 RBI NY Adam Melhouse: 2/4 2 HR 3 RBI Next Game: Red Sox Sean Burnett (0-0) @ Kevin Millwood (0-0) Blue Jays
futzy99
Sox Top Jays Boston 9, Toronto 3 Marcus Giles connects on his moster home run; Miguel Cabrera, though he didn't have the best game, is relaxed as his team rolls Joey Gathrigth had two triples this game and is showing how good he can be. Tjough he's just a young player, he can still make a big impact, thanks to his wheels. Also, he is a defensive wizard. He sits atop the lineup with good friend Carl Crawford, wo was asked who was faster. "Man, I dunno. I think we had a race some time back, and I beat him by a half-step, but maybe it's changed since then," Crawford said with a shrug. Gathright went 3/5 with 2 runs. Marcus Giles, the short stopper second baseman has been ripping up the opposition, hitting his fourth homerun this season, in 3 games. Giles was also a triple away from the cycle. Jose Vizcaino also homered for the Sox. Sean Burnett pitched 7 innings, giving up 3 and striking out 2. Stanton came in in the 8th and pitched 2 scoreless innings. Quotes: Marcus Giles: I just had a good game. I'm not gonna glorify it. I saw the ball well, and it it where they weren't. Simple as that. Noteables: BOS Joey Gathright: 3/5 2 R Marcus Giles: 2/5 1 HR 1 RBI 3 R TOR Julio Lugo: 2/3 1 RBI Next Game: Red Sox Matt Cain (0-0) @ Kip Wells (0-0) Blue Jays

futzy99
Sox Roll, But Crawford Is Canned Boston 11, Toronto 4 WP: M. Cain LP: K. Wells Crawford legs out an inside the park home run to lead off the game; Pujols steam rolls Martinez, but was out on the play As the Red Sox rolled, disaster struck. Stealing second, Carl Crawford got an inflamed left elbow. He was taken out of the game and replaced by Scott Posednick. He will be out for 9 days. The game, which was relatively close until the 6th, when the Sox broke it open, thanks to a two run, bases loaded single by A-Rod. Matt Cain pitched a good game, getting the win. His control was shaky at times, and might be looked at before his next start. The Red Sox ran all over Victor Martinez, a usually strong armed catcher, getting caught only once. Quotes: Joey Gathright, on Crawford's injury: Well, he's a really key player for us. Without him, all the rest of us will have to step it up. I'm sure Scott [Posednick] or Pie-Boy [Felix Pie] will do a great job filling in for him, htough. Both have great speed, and can sit utop the lineup, just liek Carl [Crawford] did. Noteables: BOS Albert Pujols: 4/5 1 RBI TOR Scott Hateburg: 3/4 1 HR 1 RBI Manny Ramirez: 2/3 2 RBI Next Game: Red Sox Rich Harden (1-0) @ Roy Halladay (0-1) Blue Jays
futzy99
Breaking News! This morning, the Red Sox have reportedly traded RHP Matt Cain to the Anaheim Angels for LHP Scott Kazmir. The Red Sox are happy to have Kazmir in the organization, and feel he will be an asset to the team. He will take over Cain's 5th spot in the rotation. The Red Sox needed left handed bolstering, due to the short right field fence at Fenway. Toby Hall, future catcher of Kazmir, has noted that a lot of players on the Red Sox had formerly played for South Florida teams, namely Tampa and Florida. The list includes Carl Crawford, Joey Gathright, Toby Hall, Miguel Cabrera, Scott Kazmir, Jesus Colome, and Josh Willingham.

sowapowa
I love fantasy drafts. If you think his team is stacked, just look at the bosox or yankees. Those teams are just as stacked too. On another note, why wasnt pods starting over gathright?
futzy99
Because in the game, Gathright is better than Posednik, which is dumb. But I've been playign Posednik while Crawford is hurt, batting #2 against righties, and he hasn't been doing very well.
