Video Card

I currently have the ATI Radeon 9200 128MB card which runs this game pretty darn good except for a little bit of some lag. Very little.

I want to know if the ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB is any good. I saw it on ebay for roughly 100 bucks which is cheap considering it it AGP 8x and 256mb of RAM. All what I am looking for. How does this card run MVP 05 and any other newer game you are playing (such as Battlefield 2 or that Doom or Counterstrike game)

Thanks, Mo.

If you're only getting a little lag, I would suggest toning down the graphics instead of spending a hell of a lot more money to buy a new graphics card.

You are right, but it is sorta for another game(BF2) . Sorta. I'm wondering how this card will run on MVP 05 since I play that game exclusively.:chin:

I upgraded from a GeForce Ti500 to a 128 Mb Radeon 9600 Pro card and I've been very happy with the way that MVP 2005 runs on it. The 9600 Pro has less horsepower (and memory) than the 9600 XT you're looking at, so the game should run just fine for you if you get that card. I also play Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault with this card (although I don't have the settings maxed out).

I have a 3 year-old Dell 4300 PC, 1.6GHz with 512 Meg of RAM. The PC originally came with a GeForce 2 MX400 video card, which I eventually upgraded to the Ti500 and then in January upgraded again to the Radeon 9600 Pro.

The only thing I have to add is that while the 9600XT will provide you with better performance in all games, the increase will be moderate. If you were to go from a 9200 to a GeForce 6600 (or 6600GT) you'd notice a significant increase.

I've seen 6600's for $140US - $150US and 6600GT's for around $165 at pricewatch.com

Pricewatch is also showing a GeForce 5900XT for $125, granted it's 'last generation', that's still a pretty powerful card.

The only thing is that I want to keep the cost down while being able to run mvp and bf2. that is the only reason why i'll settle with 9600xt for 100.00. in a couple of years i'll go for the x800 xt or whatever it is called.

I saw a video card in Comp USA for like $750. Are the video cards being discussed in here top end and if so is that price just a total rip? I don't remember what card it was I just remember almost crapping myself when I saw the price.

The very newest top of the line cards are going for around that amount, that does seem slightly high, but not too bad.

It's waaaaayyyy more than I'd ever think of spending, unless I came into a bunch of money ;)

Ditto. If you consider for a moment that you could have a whole new PC for the amount of money you are about to spend on one single component of a system, it makes you really think about what you're buying.

I didn't want to start a new topic, so I wanted to ask would a GeForce FX 5200 work well with MVP. I have a great card on another computer, so I have nothing to compare it with, and would like to know whether this card will work alright.

Thanks for any response.

That's the card I have and it works ok I guess. The game could run a bit smoother though. Also if you plan on using Big Shmooz's mod package you might want to think about upgrading. Everytime I play with those mods my game crashes within the first few innings. Right now I play with about 8 or 9 cyberfaces, The Ultimate Rosters 2.35, a Yankee Stadium mod, The YES Network Overlay, Big Mo's crowd chant and the Spitoon ball mod. The game still runs fine but if you want to go crazy with mods then you should prolly go for something better.
