judging a slide

am i the only one who has trouble doing a take-out slide to break up a double-play? Every time its a double play situation i can never tell either to take-out slide left or right and i have to decide before the throw or else my player will just dive automatically.

Is there any simple way of telling without having to judge the fielder extremely quickly and correctly?

I usually go by what side of the bag the throw is coming from. The guy covering second usually goes to that side of the bag. This doesn't work all of the time but it seems to work most of the time.
