basballfanatik9
The Baltimore Sun O's Go Big BALTIMORE-- On a beautiful day at Camden Yards, the Orioles took their shot to impress a record crowd that had a renewed faith in the O's, playing a nearly geniune game Monday in a 11-3 win over the Oakland A's. Sidney Ponson was excited to be the Opening Day starter, and had this to say before the game, "I feel great today, the Orioles are a totally different team, with the acquisition of Sammy Sosa, everyone has total confidence." Well, Ponson was right about the confidence, as he pitched a complete game, only allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits and striking out 7. All though he struggled through a couple innings, he mananged to fight back and seal the deal. Baltimore's bats were very lively in the season opener. Baltimore gave Zito an early exit, tacking on 5 runs in the first 2 innings, only allowing Zito to pitch 1.1 innings. Melvin Mora smoked a linedrive HR in the 1st inning over the right field porch. The 2nd inning was great, as the Orioles took advantage of Zito's mistake pitches. Miguel Tejada was on a tear, going 4 for 5, with 2 HRs, including a Grand Slam, while getting 6 RBIs. Baltimore tacked on 11 runs on 14 hits. Oakland tried to come back when they scored 3 runs through 7 innings, getting the score to 5-3, but Miguel Tejada ended all hopes of a come back. Erubiel Durazo figured out Ponson, going 2 for 4, with 2 doubles and 1 RBI. Oakland's bats were frankly silent, as Ponson struck out 7 batters, which included Mark Kotsay, who struck out 3 times. Kotsay had this to say on his poor performance "Man, I don't know what to say, Ponson owned me, I couldn't put the bat on the ball to save my life." Oakland's hitting coach Dave Hudgens said the A's need to start working in the cages. Even though Baltimore had a victorious day, there was some drama, Brian Roberts, the Orioles 2B, is out for 7 days with a Minor MCL Sprain. The injury occured while Roberts made a diving stop to get out Eric Byrnes at 1st base. Baltimore hopes to have continued success as Daniel Cabrera takes on Danny Haren in game 2. And the fans were awesome, so many fans came to show their support." Miguel Tejada "Did I really belt out 2 HR's? When I hit the balls I thought they were just lazy flies, until I heard the fans going crazy. Wow, is all I can say. My bat was very good to me today, and hopefully it stays this way." basballfanatik9
The Baltimore Sun O's Take Two BALTIMORE-- The Orioles are hoping that Wednesday night was the end of all injuries, as starting pitcher Daniel Cabrera was knocked out in the 3rd inning by a hard linedrive, which Cabrera took off the arm. The 6-foot-7 right-hander from the Dominican Republic was great the 3 innings he pitched, only allowing 1 run, which came off the bat of Erubiel Durazo, who hit a triple. But everything came to a screeching halt in the 3rd inning as Cabrera took a comebacker off his right arm, which has landed him on the disabled list. But the Orioles had no worries when Eric DuBose came in, DuBose was stellar, going 4.1 innings and allowing only 2 hits and no runs. DuBose got the win, and during the postgame reports said this "This win is for you Danny [Daniel Cabrera]. I was ready for anything to happen, I knew I had a job to complete, and I did what I had to do." With the injury of Daniel Cabrera, DuBose has moved into the starting rotation and hopes to have the same success. The game was quite a nail biter, the score was 1-1 until the 8th inning, when Dan Haren left a curveball hanging, and Melvin Mora made him pay for it, Mora sent it deep over the right field wall, and the estimated distance was 437 feet. The Orioles had 6 hits, most of them were seeing eye singles, and a couple long balls. Miguel Tejada also hit a HR in the 5th inning, which was his 3rd in 2 games. The Orioles hope to sweep the A's in the finale, as Erik Bedard takes on Rich Harden. Camden Yards was to the full capacity, and there must have been about 5,000 brooms in the stands, hoping for the sweep. The Orioles were perfect in 3 games, and Erik Bedard helped the teams success. Bedard pitched half way decent, not to his best ability, but he throw 8 innings, and only allowing 2 runs on 10 hits. Bedard had to get out of many struggles, especially in the 3rd inning when the A's had bases loaded with 1 out, but Bedard came through and got out of it with no runs allowed. Melvin Mora has been almost perfect, hitting his 3rd and 4th HR in the game. Mora is on a power surge, and says his success leads to the Orioles hitting coach Terry Crowley, Mora had this to say about Crowley "During Spring Training I would go straight to the cages with Terry, and he helped me out in many ways, he smoothed out my swing, and also adjusted my stance. He has been a big help." The Orioles scored 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 runs were off HRs. Larry Bigbie got his 1st HR in the 8th inning, with a mammoth shot to Left Centerfield. The Orioles take on the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in their next series. Game 1's matchup is Jaret Wright vs. Rodrigo Lopez. basballfanatik9
The Baltimore Sun Everything Went Wright for Yanks BALTIMORE-- Orioles finally fall in 1st game against division rival, New York Yankees and Jaret Wright pitched stellar. Baltimore hanged tough though, and wouldn't just give the Yanks an easy victory. Late inning fatigue ends Baltimores chances. Rodrigo Lopez started in the big city, but everything seemed as if it was too big. In the 1st inning, Lopez was touched up for 2 runs, including a big 2 run double from Alex Rodriguez. After the 1st inning jitters for Lopez, everything else seemed to be smooth sailing. But once again, Lopez couldn't hold the Yankees bats, in the 8th inning Jason Giambi laced a 2 run double down the right field line. Lopez went a full 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 14 hits, and striking out 3. The Orioles bats weren't what they have been in the past games, Baltimore only had 2 runs on 8 hits. Good news though for Orioles slugger Melvin Mora, he continued his hitting streak to 4 games, getting 2 hits and 1 RBI against Wright. Luis Matos also helped out the O's by hitting a double to CF, bringing in 1 run. Jaret Wright was basically lights out for the Yankees, Wright pitched 8 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 was unearned on 8 hits. Wright seemed to figure out the batters, throwing it were they couldn't hit it. Mariano Rivera came in the 9th inning and shut the game out, getting his 1st save of the season. basballfanatik9
The Baltimore Sun Sidney On The Roll BALTIMORE-- It's obvious that Orioles right-hander Sidney Ponson has manager Lee Mazzilli's full trust. In Ponson's 1st two starts, he is 2-0, with a 1.50 ERA. When the Orioles carried a four-run lead into the late innings on Sunday against the New York Yankees, Mazzilli could have easily taken the ball out of Ponson's hand, yet, Mazzilli stuck with his No. 1 starter throughout the whole game to finish off a satisfying 5-1 win in front of 46,797 at Yankee Stadium. Sidney Ponson was lights out, he throw a complete game. He only allowed 1 run on 7 hits. He struck out 7 batters, including Jason Giambi, who struck out 3 times. Ponson has been really calm on the mound, and said that has been his key to success. Pitching coach Ray Miller had this to say about Ponson's performance "Sidney has really improved from last year, he has really worked hard, and it's all paying off." The Orioles also had their bats with them, as the scored 5 runs and had 7 hits. The Orioles scored all 5 runs of the Yankees ace, Randy Johnson. They tagged Johnson up for 7 hits, including 2 HRs, one from Javy Lopez and the other from Rafael Palmeiro. Palmeiro isn't known for hitting against lefties, but he surely jacked one, which went to the upper deck on the right field side. The Orioles will enjoy their day off, and then it's back to work. basballfanatik9
Orioles Weekly is hosted by Joe Angel and Jim Hunter . We will do weekly recaps and take a look inside the Orioles organization. Season Opener Game 1 OAK vs. BAL Baltimore wins the season opener 11-3 against the Oakland Athletics. Long balls helped the O's in the win, including a Grand Slam off the bat of Miguel Tejada, who had 2 HRs and 6 RBIs in the game. Sidney Ponson started the season opener and pitched well, he only allowed 3 runs on 8 hits. Game 2 OAK vs. BAL Baltimore gets another victory as they beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1. It was a nail biter til' the end, but the Orioles were the ones on top. Melvin Mora's HR in the 8th inning sealed the deal for another Oriole win. Daniel Cabrera started but didn't last to long, Cabrera was knocked out in the 3rd inning with a fractured arm. Cabrera should be back in about a month, and hopefully he does well. Eric DuBose came in for Cabrera and did the job. Game 3 OAK vs. BAL Baltimore pulls of a sweep in the series opener. Baltimore looked really sharp as they scored 4 runs off the Athletics. Melvin Mora hit his 4th HR in 3 consecutive games, and he was a beast at the plate. Erik Bedard pitched an okay game,he only allowed 2 runs, but the A's tacked on 10 hits. The Orioles defense backed up Bedard 100 % though. Game 1 BAL vs. NYY Baltimore suffered their 1st lost of the game, to the hands of Jaret Wright and the New York Yankees. Wright pitched well, and the Orioles only put 2 runs on the board, which wasn't enough to take down the Yanks. Rodrigo Lopez get roughed up, allowing 4 runs on 14 hits. Game 2 BAL vs. NYY Baltimore is back on track, as they beat the Yankees 2-0. It was rather a quiet and close game until the end. Sammy Sosa blasted his 1st HR in the 2nd inning, which significally, was enough to beat the Yanks. Bruce Chen pitched great, allowing no runs on 6 hits. And Closer B.J. Ryan got his 3rd save and is lights out when he comes in the 9th inning. Game 3 BAL vs. NYY Randy Johnson who? That's what the Orioles were wondering, as they dominated RJ, putting 5 runs on the board with 7 hits, including 2 jacks. Rafael Palmeiro showed that a 41 yr old still has a big stick and can belt one out of the park. Palmeiro took one deep into the rightfield porch. movietitan
I don't know if you are interested, but I found out that Bruce Chen trades for Scott Kazmir straight up!!! That'd be a huge trade for the Orioles (although I did the trade in preseason before any stats had evolved). Also, I got Huston Street straight up for Eric DuBose, Kendry Morales straight up for John Maine (not worth it though, keep Maine) and Brandon League straight up for James Baldwin (how or why I don't know). You should pick up these players. I'm an avid O's fan so I'll be reading your dynasty once in a while, good luck!
Daebon540
"but I found out that Bruce Chen trades for Scott Kazmir straight up!!!" Whenever you make a trade, you should first save your dynasty. Then make the trade, and then trade the players back. If the other team accepts it both ways, then you know it's a fair trade.
movietitan
What does it matter? If he wants Kazmir (he wouldnt OVER bruce chen) then he should do it!
