So What is left to mod that would be cool?

another idea...you know the scoreboard screens on the jumbotron showing the players? i wonder if we can change the coding on the jumboscreens so we can get something more along the lines of this:

jumbofix9ho.jpg

this is photoshopped, of course. most stadiums would not show the players stats like they do on mvp, it would be something more eyepopping than a plain pic and stats. mabye eventualy, we can get diffrent codes to all the stadiums...just a thought.

keep these ideas coming. so far there's a few on here that are very interesting.

stecropper, I don't understand your mod that you do. Don't we already have a series we can play, the playoffs and WS? Please explain to me what you mean as if I am dumb. Ok, I am dumb.

UncleMo,

Although I am totally in disagreement with your statement about you being dumb ..... I will give it a shot.

In Dynasty mode all ongoing stats for all Teams are kept by the game. This is a GOOD Thing!

In MVP 2005 unlike MVP 2004 during Dynasty games you can control both Teams during the game. Unlike in 2004 you could only control the Team that your profile was set to control. By control I mean set lineups and starting pitchers and such plus make substitutions during the game for both teams. This is a GOOD Thing!

In MVP 2005 like in MVP 2004 in order to even see a Playoff game the team you controlled had to make it to the Playoffs and if your were lucky enough to get your controled Team to the World Series then you could play it as well. This is a BAD Thing! Really BAD thing ---- now that, my friend, is dumb --- but that's EA not You.

So, what I wanted was to ONLY Play individual 3, 5 or 7 game Series between two teams of my choice while in Dynasty Mode. Without having to play any other games. Obviously, I would prefer to have the game allow for a Playoff System or World Series and allow me to simply choose the teams I want to participate in it but the game doesn't do that. So, I wanted to create something as close to that as possible.

To prepare for this mod I used the BigGUI utility to Open up the file Schedule.dat located in the data/database directly of the game. This is where all the Schedules for the MLB, AAA, AA, & A leagues are found. They have individual .dat type files for each and the MLB actually has 3 separate files for 3 separate schedules while the AAA has 2 of these and AA & A each have 1. These files that are contained within the Schedule.dat file are:

a140_1.dat

aa140_1.dat

aaa144_1.dat

aaa144_1.dat

mlb162_1.dat

mlb162_2.dat

mlb162.3.dat

Then I exported these files into a working directory I created so I could edit them. Once in that working folder I would use the TextPad utility to open up the mlb162_1.dat file and I would edit it. Once opened with TextPad the original mlb162_1.dat file looked like this:

DATE,Time,Home,Road,Half

,,,,

4/3/2005,19:05,NYY,Bos,0

4/4/2005,13:05,Det,KC,0

4/4/2005,13:35,Pit,Mil,0

4/4/2005,14:05,CWS,Cle,0

4/4/2005,14:05,Col,SD,0

4/4/2005,14:05,Sea,Min,0

4/4/2005,14:10,Cin,NYM,0

4/4/2005,14:40,Ari,ChC,0

4/4/2005,15:05,Bal,Oak,0

4/4/2005,16:15,TB,Tor,0

4/4/2005,19:05,Phi,Was,0

4/5/2005,13:05,SF,LA,0

4/5/2005,13:05,NYY,Bos,0

4/5/2005,16:05,Fla,Atl,0

4/5/2005,18:05,Hou,StL,0

4/5/2005,18:40,Ari,ChC,0

4/5/2005,19:05,Ana,Tex,0

4/5/2005,19:05,Sea,Min,0

4/5/2005,19:15,TB,Tor,0

4/6/2005,12:35,Pit,Mil,0

4/6/2005,13:05,CWS,Cle,0

4/6/2005,13:05,Det,KC,0

4/6/2005,15:35,Sea,Min,0

As you can see each game is represented on an individual line and has the date, time and the two teams that are playing. The 0 indicates prior to the All-Star game and those after I think have a 1 in that location.

So, I would edit that mlb162_1.dat file to make it look like this if I were wanting to play a 7 game Series between the Detroit Tigers and the Cincinnati Reds:

DATE,Time,Home,Road,Half

,,,,

4/3/2005,19:10,Cin,Det,0

4/4/2005,13:10,Cin,Det,0

4/5/2005,19:05,Det,Cin,0

4/6/2005,19:05,Det,Cin,0

4/7/2005,13:10,Det,Cin,0

4/8/2005,19:05,Cin,Det,0

4/9/2005,13:10,Cin,Det,0

9/10/2005,19:10,Det,CWS,0

9/11/2005,13:10,Det,CWS,0

10/1/2005,15:15,StL,Cin,1

10/1/2005,16:07,Tor,KC,1

You can notice that I also deleted all other games up to September 9th in this schedule.

Then I would go back to BigGUI that I had opened the Schedules.dat file from the data/database directory into. I would delete the mlb162_1.dat entry in that one then import the mlb162_1.dat file which I had just edited from that working directory into it. I would then compress that particular mlb162_1.dat file I had just imported then I would rebuild the Schedules file while in BigGUI which placed the updated version of the Schedules.dat file into the games data/database directory.

Then I would go into the game and select either Detroit or Cincinnati as the team I controlled and begin a Dynasty. Within that Dynasty the only games scheduled in April would be the 7 game Series between the Tigers and the Reds.

So with this - all the Stats were kept for that entire 7 game Series (of course not all my 7 game Series go the full 7 games) and since they were the only two teams playing any games in April when I went into the Stats League Leaders section it would show players Stats from those two teams only. Kind a bonus deal and that is why I deleted all games in April.

Then I would repeat these steps if I wanted a 7 game Series between the Red Sox and Yankees so on and so forth.

Once the Series had been determined I would move the DETCIN_Dynasty.sav file from the MyDocuments/MVP Baseball 2005 directory to another directory I would create to hold all of my .sav (i.e. Dynasty) Series games. Then with the MVPSavReader utility I can then view/print those Series stats whenever I care to.

That is basically it.

So, now I can play a Series of games between any two Teams I want and have the system keep the stats for me. But I have to repeat those steps for each new Series that I want. It actually only takes a couple minutes but still I have to do it every time to create a unique Series. I actually save all the ones I create and name them a unique name that tells me who is playing and how many games in that Series so if I ever play that identical series again I just copy that file into the data/database directory and override the Schedules.dat file there.

What I think would be neat is if someone could just build a utility that ask three questions:

1) What Team do you want to give the Home field advantage to for this Series

2) Who is their opponent

3) How many games in this Series

Then it could just do those few steps automatically.

Hope this explains it.

Don

someone please, PLEASE, if you understand what stecropper just said and you can make such a mod, make it! the ONE major thing lacking in MVP that other baseball games have is a playoff mode. you'd think they'd have something like that since stats is so integral to the sport.

It would have been so much easier for stecropper just to say a playoff mode. But now that I understand what he's talking about, that would be a great idea. I never realized the fact that there is no playoff mode. That is pretty lame.

I could swear someone has already done Sammy.

The scoreboard thing is a good idea but I think those who work on stadiums ought to see what you've just posted, your picture, and springboard from that idea. Hopefully someoen with those skills can springboard from that post of yours.

The playoff mode is a good idea. However I imagine that that is impossible. I think stecropper wants me to create several files for series play so that others could insert the file into the correct folder and be able to start a dynasty and do a playoff mode that way. Sounds ok. I must say stecropper figuring out how to do that trick was impressive. I think stecropper should come out with a short season mod. I just don't know if me creating all of those files would be a good idea since stecropper already knows how to make them. I'd be spending time learning what you've learned, testing, etc. when stecropper already knows how to do that. If there is a demand for that, maybe post your desires for that kind of quasi-playoff mode and I think stecropper should go to town on it. Seems cool. I could not use such a mode, but I'm sure someone might like it a lot.

The idea that sticks out most to me is having the ball kick up dust when it hits the ground. Not a lot, but a bit so that it is noticeable...

I have no clue if it possible, but how about getting the batter's stats overlay to show up more than once throughout a game. You know, the first time the batter bats, it shows his AVG., HR., RBIs, Hits, OBP. Well, why not have that updated throughout the game, and show up during another time the batter bats.

The game does automatically update the batting averages and such, because during the switch of the innings, when it shows you who is to bat in the upcoming inning, the batting averages have been adjusted to reflect what happened in the previous at bat.

So the game does it already, maybe there is a way to actually see the other stats pop up as well.

I believe the High Heat games did this, and I always thought it to be impressive.

A noob face maker. So basically, a program that you can make you own faces easily in a MVP compatible file (.fsh) that you can install in seconds. And a program along the lines of bigGui, that is meant for MVP and doesnt decompress your files randomly (bigGUI has caused me a bunch [naughty word])

Sammy Sosa face, I cant belive anyone hasn't made one yet, EA's version makes Sammy look like 150 years old!

For all we know, Sammy Sosa could be 150 years old!!! lol.

Perhaps since I've never seen any mods of this kind, it isn't possible.. But what I would LOVE to see is a new "ball hitting bat" sound. The one EA uses is TERRIBLE. In fact, I think they won't need to change it at all if they do a college game featuring aluminum bats. One of the best parts about enjoying a game live, or even on TV for that matter, is the hearty CRACK (insert your own joke here) of the bat. Love that sound!
