Impossible to pickoff CPU?

I've been playing MVP 2005 since it came out and I haven't picked anyone off yet. I also don't even remember doing it in 2004. I usually try with a 2-strike count or something like that.... Any tips or ideas from those who have been successful in doing this?

And does anyone use the "normal" pick off move? I always use the quick one because I figure there is a better chance to pick the guy off. Why did they even put the normal one in there anyway...

Nope Ive never been able to pick anyone off. The onyl way ive been able to throw a runner out using the pick off is by throwing a pitch out to home and catching a runner stealing

I have had several successful pickoffs.

Can't say that there's a formula to follow though.

Ditto.. they have to have the biggest lead that you can take. You just have to catch them leaning the wrong way. It helps to do it with a pitcher that has a high pick rating (very little red on meter)

I don't believe there is a formula, but I've had success varying my timing.....that is, while you're pithcing, wait a little between pitches or throw it right away.....you'll notice the cpu does that to you when you have runners on (even when no one is on)......I can't say I fully understand the code that controls this function of play, but I try to approach as if I were playing a reall game.....I don't know if that is a good philosophy, being I'm playing against a computer, but it is the best intelligence I have so far

The best time to try a pickoff is usually if the baserunner isn't a very good one, eg. a big guy or a pitcher. They'll usually need to be on the biggest leadoff, though I once picked off a pitcher when he had a medium lead. I also find it works better if you don't try quick pickoffs too often, so the baserunner kinda forgets about a pickoff.

I have NEVER picked the CPU off, however just last night or the night before I almost did when I threw to home (throw out), then chucked it to first base. The CPU looked so dang scared he stubmled to get back. It was funny, like the CPU did it to me and I was scared. It was like I was playing a human player.

I'd better get a lefty throwing catcher if I want to be somewhat successful.

I picked off a player trying to get back about a month ago. Two days ago I got picked off with auto runner on. He just stood there an did'nt even attemped to get back. Kind of ticked about that but that was the only times. :hmph:

since playing with the new kumala mixed datafile i've picked off two runers at 1st base, these are my only two victims in 60+ games of dynasty.

i've only played 6 games with tis new datafile and like i mentioned above got 2 pick offs, i find you wait as long as possible and let them take a 2 step lead once they have pick them off straight away.

i haven't got anyone yet whoes only taken one step, and the two i picked off were Floyd (mets) and ortiz (boston), notice a pattern here, big fat, overweight and slow. why they took two steps i'll never know, anways thats just my input about it :wtg:

Sheesh I haven't been able to pick off anyone yet......I tried last game after a slow runner for the Phillies stole 2nd base from Ramon Castro....so I tried to pick him off with Pedro Martinez but he always kept sprinting back and sliding under the tag.... :tired:

this is a good topic to talk about...good job whoever brought it up....the normal pickoff move is good for pitchers with the highest pickoff rating..like andy pettite for example..because the normal pickoff looks mostl ike the real pitch...
