Have you turned a triple play?

Recommended Posts

I hadn't even thought about it before until 30 minutes ago when I did it out of nowhere. Situation:

Bottom ninth, game tied (after I gave up a homerun to lead off the inning to blow the lead). Runners on first and second with no outs (single and a hit by pitch to follow the homerun - and I promise the ball slipped  ). The batter hit a line drive to short that short hopped the shortstop...when the shortstop charged the ball he came up enough to tag the runner going to third. At this moment I realized what was about to happen and, instead of throwing it to second like I planned on, I just hauled *** to second (about three steps) and then threw it to first - triple play. :wtg: :wtg:

Ended up winning the game in the next inning with a solo shot by Casey Craig in the top of the tenth. High Desert 4, Lancaster 3.

Yes. I had one once. Men on first and second 0 outs (obviously). Ground ball to third. Third basemen was running in direction of man at second. He threw the tagged the guy running to third, threw to second, and got the man out at first.

I 'would have' but.... it was a line drive (one hop) to 3rd with runners on 1st and 2nd, touched 3rd, threw the guy out running to 2nd and got it to first in time. The only problem was, there was already one out. :(

I came really close the other day. Guys one 1st and 2nd as expected, batter lined out to short and I threw to second just messing around and as the ball got to second I realized that the runner wasnt on the bag so threw to first the second I got the ball and just missed the triple play as the runner slide it a split second before the ball got there. It was a nice double play but I couldnt believe how close I came to the triple play....only time I've pulled it off was against my friend, but that doesnt count for anything really

I did it once. Men on first & third & a line drive was hit, I forget to where. I caught it & both runners were moving on the play, I threw to third & doubled the guy off, & then threw to first & tripled the guy off. It was cool, because it was against a friend I always play online. Now I have bragging rights against him, since he has never managed a triple play on me.

sounds similar to when I used to play mario golf with my friends on gamecube and I was the only one who hit an albatross (double eagle) if you know golf it's 2 shots on a par 5 to hole it.. anyway I always bragged about it against them to throw them off their game

also the degree of difficulty made the shot as it was raining in the game and I had to hit a full power shot with maximum top spin to get in the hole and made it somehow

Yeah, my friend & I always trash talk while we play online. (we also are on the phone at the same time with each other) When we play each other in person it's even cooler to trash talk because you see the other guy's facial & body reactions LOL.

I just did about a minute ago and was about to create a new forum when I saw this. 3rd inning men on first and 2nd. Jose Macias attempts a bunt so the men on 1st and 2nd are both running. He pops the bunt up to the pitcher who throws it to the second baseman who throws it to the first baseman before the runners could tag up.

I did it a few days ago. CPU had bases loaded and no outs. Ball was hit to middle of the leftfield, and all cpu runners were on the move. I somehow caught the flyball with my SS, who then threw it to 2nd base and the 2nd baseball threw it to 1st base.

To turn three is pretty rare:

Runners on 1st and 2nd, groundball right to 3rd base you can easily turn three...

BTW: Have you seen the unassisted triple play by Rafael Furcal last year in ESPN Sunday Night Baseball? That was awesome a hit and run line drive-unassisted triple play!!!

Jon Miller and Joe Morgan were completely delighted...

my guy in the field dove and caught the ball catching the runners off guard, and threw it to second then first for an easy triple play.

I've come close a few times, and I actually had one once, but the ump screwed me on the call at first.

I was playing the Mariners when Ichiro came up with Dave Hansen on second and Willie Bloomquist on first.

Ichiro tried to bunt, but the ball just died in front of home plate. So I had my catcher pick it up and throw to third, got Hansen at third for one, got Willie and second for two, and I threw to first and Ichiro was called safe. But I looked at the replay and that ball beat him there by a half a step.

I was ticked.

I should of had an easy Triple Play

Runners on 1st and 2nd, ball hit to 3rd - Encarnacion ran into the man advancing to 3rd, and instead of throwing to 2nd - i had a brain freeze, and tossed it to first...... :wall: :duh:

Gutted tbh, as thats the closest ive ever been

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah.

My SS was running towards the outfield back to the infield and the runners went thinking the ball would drop....he just barely caught it - threw to 2nd, then on to 1st for the TP

I only had one happen, and it was against me. I had runners at first and second and had a hit into CF, and I guess I thought it wasn't going to be caught so the runners were going. Johnny Damon made the catch, threw to second and got the out, and then threw to first and got the third out. Probably my worst baserunning play ever.

i had one almost exactly like what happened above...but when i threw it to first, the runner was out probably by a half step but was called safe...i argued the call to the max and the umpire kinda shook my coach off, knowing he missed the call. i feel kinda better now reading these knowing this has happened to more than just me
