some dumb questions

1. I can't see any faces for the baserunners, fielders, or umpires, just the pitcher. I can't remember if it was always like this - have I deleted some graphic files somewhere by accident?

2. Is there any point to arguing a call, any advantage to it, other than the amusement?

Sorry if these have been asked multiple times.

1. I have read in the past about a mod having this effect but I couldn't tell you which it is. Did you install mods recently?

2. To answer Cbull, you hit the #4 button on the controller during a replay (or triangle on PS2, Y on X-box). As for an advantage, I am not sure if it has been proven but I have heard it gives players a boost, whether that is a + or -, I don't know. I have never really noticed any real difference.

I don't see those faces either. I don't think you are supposed to but I could be wrong.

The point of arguing a call is to boost your teams morale without getting ejected. If you listen the announcers will say something like "the team seems pretty happy that the manager argued the call without getting tossed" I have no idea what that actually does though. Or if a call heats you up you could just raise the argument meter all the way and get booted. That happens to me alot. Also if you get the manager ejected you wont be able to warm up pitchers or substitute anyone for the rest of the game. I've heard people on these forums say that this is only the case in exhibition games and that in season and owner modes you can sub with the assistant manager. I know for sure you can't on the PS2 version.

How do you argue a call?

Just repeatedly press the number 4 button(on gamepads) arrow up(on keyboards). It would be the triangle button on a PS2 controller. You can argue after any play, if you hit a homerun you can argue it. You will definetely get ejected for arguing something stupid though.

ok, so you can boost morale. makes sense.

Yeah I don't remember if those faces should be there or not! I see them out in the field once the ball is hit, but not during the batter/pitcher interface. You'd think they should be there though...

I feel like there must be something wrong - the ump, baserunners, and fielders all look like mannequins out there when I bat, then look normal when the ball is hit...that can't be right, but what mod would change that? It would have to be something that removes some graphics files; but I just installed models.big off the cd so it's not that. It couldn't be the datafile could it?

Is it the level of detail? I think at low detail level, players that are in the distance will have less detailed faces, posibly blank...

Just a thought.

No.

MVP, no matter what level of detail you have (I think) will only show a blank white or black face for players in the field. Only batters, pitchers, and players involved in a defensive play will have there real faces. It's all about the camera.

it's actually all about the LOD (level of detail) draw distance, I'm guessing it was written mainly for consoles and so the distance at which the game starts to use the llod uni'sblank facessingle body model etc is way too soon.

1. Jim hit it right on the head. It's all about draw distance, which I have yet to find an option for in the EA-provided video options. You can really notice it on replays, as you are panning the camera around, you can see the faces appear and disappear.

2. Arguing a call will only affect your team's playing ability if you have either the Energy Level or Team Chemistry effects turned on. It provides a small boost in chemistry or energy (not exactly sure which), and if you turn on Ratings displays, you can see that the batting ratings will improve a point or two on a positive reaction or drop on a negative one.
