Louis Cardinals (0-1) vs Houston Astros (1-0) Houston Trib-- As the season starts, the Astros were ready to rumble with the NL champions. from 04. In the bottom of the first, the stros draw first blood with a RBI single by J. Lane. Oswalt went 7 innings giving up 0 ER striking out 4. Later, Dan Wheeler was brought in for the 8th and pitched a scoreless inning. In the bottom of the 8th, the 'Stroz help Oswalt's cause by scoring an additional 2 runs making the score 3-0 Stroz. Brad Lidge, who was phenominal in the playoffs came in for the 9th. He gave up a solo shot to Albert Pujols and later to Jim Edmonds. With two outs, Lidge struck Einar Diaz for the last out and save the victory. Guest Posted July 13, 2005 Author Share Posted July 13, 2005 St. Louis Cardinal (1-1) vs Houston Astros (1-1) Houston Trib-- In the second game of the 3 game series, the Astros were blanked until the 4th innings where they score a run off the bat of Jason Lane. Then, the Cardinals found their stroke in the 5th, 6th, and 7th where they scored 2 runs in each inning rattling the Rocket. The Astros managed 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 8th but that wasn't enough as the Cardinal Closer Jason Isringhausen notched his 1st save of the season. Also, Brad Lidge looks like he is back with his 97 mph fastball striking out 2 in a 1-2-3 inning. Guest Posted July 13, 2005 Author Share Posted July 13, 2005 Cincinnati Reds (2-2) Houston Astros (2-1) 9th inning win Houston Trib-- In the new series against the Cincinnati Reds, Pettitte struggled to begin the game. Pettitte allowed 1 run in the 1st on an error by Biggio as well in the third. But the Stros offense could not be shut down. They rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th and set Pettite up for the win. It went scoreless the rest of the way until the 9th. Brad Lidge was brought in for the save. He striked out the first batter and everything looked good. Then he allowed to Javier Valentin which brought Casey up in the batters box. Lidge lost his command and allowed a two run homer run blast to deep center. In the bottom of the inning, the Stros were destined to comeback. The rally came with 2 outs as jason Lane got on base with a base hit and then brad Ausmus did the same. Mike Lamb came in the clutch in the pitchers spot ( pinch hitter ) and drove in Lane to tie. In a offensive struggle against the rookie Jason Standridge, the Astros were shut out for the first time this season. Jason went 8.2 innings giving p 7 hits, no ER, and 5 strikeouts. While Brandon Backe goes 5 innings, giving up 2 runs and a total of 8 hits. The Reds were lead by Austin Kearns who went 2-4 with 1 RBI. The Reds were led by Austin Kearns who drove in 4 of the 5 runs that were given up. Also, Eric Milton looked superb allowing 1 ER over 6 innings. The Astros will look to rebound in the upcoming series. In the pitching duel between Roy Oswalt and Tom Glavine, neither one got the victory. It came down to the end with Beltran on 2nd base. Doug Mientkiewicz hit a high chopper to 3rd and Morgan Ensberg threw to first that turned out to be the critical error that allowed Beltran to score. Phil Garner spoke to the media after the game," We need to play better defense if we want to win. Berkman and Palmeiro both started their inning with a double which lead to the two runs the Stros scored. Clemens did what he does best and its going 7 innings giving up no runs and getting 3Ks. Lamb and Lane both helped by driving one in.
