Game Worked Now It Doesn't - Please Help!

Ok heres the deal, a couple days ago I had a problem with my pc not booting (it would just beep when I hit the power button). Fearing that it might be a motherboard issue I brought it to a local pc repair shop. It turns out it was just a stick of ram had gone bad so they removed it. Now the computer boots up fine and everything on the computer works fine except for my MVP Baseball 2005. What happens is when I click the MVP icon to start the game - the splash screen appears, then the screen goes black like the game is loading and then it crashes back to the desktop (just prior to the 'EA Sports - its in the game') and gives me the option of sending an error report. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times but it still does the exact same thing every time. I tried deleting the MVP files that are put in the 'my documents' folder thinking maybe they were currupted some how but that didn't help either. My other games I have (GTA San Andreas) works fine so I don't think its a video card or driver issue - plus the fact that it worked before but not after having the problems with the stick of ram. Anyone please help! I'm more than 100 games into a season and don't want to loose it all...

My pc specs:

Pentium 4 1.7 ghz

256mb of sdram (was 512 before the problem)

Radeon 9600 Pro (with up to date drivers)

SoundBlaster Live sound card

The error report (if it helps any):

AppName:mvp2005.exe

ModName:gcdudrv.dll

you have lost it if you deleted the my documents files

and you probably need some more ram to run the game. Try using enditall to disable any non-essential progs.

Actually I should have been more specific - I backed up the my document files and then deleted them so I actually do still have them. As for needing more ram goes I'll try it but wouldn't a game like gta san andreas require more ram then a game like mvp (since gta is a big city with many objects to draw, etc)?

yes but it doesn't draw everything all the time whereas MVP only has about 13 moving objects yet is still very jerky on all but low-res textures, it's all down to the coding and PC coders are noticeably lazy compared to consoles where upgrades are not available

Thanks for the help biker_jim_uk but no luck with turning off nonessential programs running in the background. The game still does the exact same thing. I realize the logical 'fix' for this is to say I don't have enough ram but the game only requires 128mb (I have 256mb) but san andreas requires 256mb and I have absolutely no problems running that game. The other problem I have with this solution is the fact the game does not even load. It crashes immediately before the 'ea sports - its in the game' thing which I'm sure is either a .mpg or .avi file. Maybe I'll try re-installing sound card and video card drivers and seeing if that helps but if it doesn't I'm completely stumped...

once again San Andreas is a completely different type of game made by different programmers, and has nothing in comparison.

maybe try searching the net for the dll? maybe rename it before reinstalling to make sure you get the correct one?

Thanks biker_jim_uk! Got it working now, just needed to rename the gcdudrv.dll to something else and now everything works fine. Thanks again for your help...
