cybernetic Posted August 23, 2005 Author Share Posted August 23, 2005 I've decided to only trade for guys on the trading block or make trades if one is offered that I like.. so I look on the block before every game as the CPU adds/removes guys from there every day.. I haven't really seen anyone on there as yet that would really give me an edge.. there's a bunch of pitchers who could throw out of the pen but I don't really need any more pitchers right now.. also I will sign minor league free agents from time to time to fill holes if needed Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Right: Corey Koskie throws to first to get Jose Hernandez to end the game. 05/13/05 -- Early on it was a pitcher's duel between Roy Halladay and surprisingly, Jason Davis. Both pitcher's threw a shutout through 5 innings, unfortunately, Davis left in the top of the 6th with 2-out with a pull groined and left the game up to the bullpen. At the time, the Jays had started to figured him out and had 4 hits off him in the past 2 innings. However, they did not score off Arthur Rhodes in the 6th. Roy Halladay allowed a lead-off double to Coco Crisp and he scored after consecutive groundouts to second baseman Orlando Hudson to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. The Jays got to Bob Wickman in the 8th to tie on a Vernon Wells RBI-single with Orlando Hudson at 3rd. The game would need extra innings where the Jays had several chances against David Riske but failed to scored. The Jays final got to him in the 13th with Wells on 2nd, Frank Menechino drove him in to give the Jays a 2-1 lead with a basehit. To add insult to injury, Shea Hillenbrand then followed with a 3-run opposite field homer just inside the foul pole to give the Jays a 5-1 edge. Vinnie Chulk returned for a 2nd inning of work with a 4-run lead and struggled to get guys out as he allowed 2 basehits before being pulled in favor of Miguel Batista with 1 out in the inning. Batista got the 1st batter he faced to popup then allowed a weak base hit to load the bases before getting Jose Hernandez to ground out Koskie to end the game. Chulk would get the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. David Riske got the loss (1-2). Roy Halladay did not factor in the decision despite throwing 9 innings and allowing just a run on 7 hits. "I was really fooled on the pitch and thought I fouled it off at first but I saw that it wasn't curving (foul) and it barely stayed in the foul pole. I certainly wasn't trying to hit out but got lucky.", said Hillenbrand on his 13th inning homer. Jason Davis left the game in the 6th inning with a pulled groin Jays 3-stars 1. Right now nothing is imminent.. I'm happy with the team I have I just need to work more on hitting consistently with them. I'm just seeing what's available but nothing really has peaked my interest. If an injury comes up to one of my key players and I feel no one is ready to make the jump to the big leagues in his position then I might make a trade for someone on there.. for example if Shoeneweis goes down with injury I could swing a deal for one of the lefties on the block maybe Mike Myers Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Right: Orlando Hudson rounds the bases after a 13th inning solo HR. 05/14/05 -- Tonight's game in Cleveland seemed to follow a similar pattern to the last game except the main difference was that the Jays jumped out to 4th inning lead on a solo home run from Vernon Wells (11). Ted Lilly was cruising until the 7th inning where he gave up a solo jack to Juan Gonzalez to tie the game at 1. Bob Wickman came in to pitch in the 8th again after 2 straight basehits with 1-out chased starter Jake Westbrook. Wickman would get the final two outs but took a liner off the foot and broke his toe and was forced to leave the game. Team doctors are saying he will miss at least 22 days on the DL. The Jays bullpen was outstanding in relief of Lilly who went 8 in a no decision. He allowed just 7 hits and 1 run. Justin Speier who didn't pitch in last night's extra inning contest was the first out of the 'pen for John Gibbons and the Jays. He went 2 solid innings allowing just 1 hit. Scott Schoeneweis then pitched an inning, followed by Brandon League who also pitched an inning. Orlando Hudson jumped on a 1-0 fastball from Kaz Tadano in the 13th for a solo homer (3) to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. Miguel Batista then shut the door for his 9th save allowing just a lead-off basehit. Brandon League would get the win and improve to 1-1 on the season. Kaz Tadano got the loss and fell to 2-2. "I don't know how Gonzalez hit that ball out.. it was a good 6 inches inside on his hands and somehow he managed to square his bat and hit it out.", said Lilly Notes: The Jays will send Dave Bush to the hill (4-2) in hopes of a sweep tomorrow afternoon. The Indians will counter with lefty C.C. Sabathia (4-1). With the lefty on the hill the Jays will get a chance to rest some of their regulars and give Alex Rios, Frank Menechino and Aaron Hill some playing time. Backup catcher Ken Huckaby will also get a rare start as Gregg Zaun has caught all 26 innings so far in this series. The Jays will hope to have the game end in regulation innings and rest their bullpen before heading to Minnesota to face the Twins on Tuesday. Sabathia and Dave Bush. Both pitcher's kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the 5th where Dave Bush yielded an RBI-single to Ronnie Belliard to give the Indians a 1-0 lead. C.C. Sabathia was pitching a great game although unspectacular as he did not record a strikeout in the contest. The Jays actually outhit the Indians 6-4 but lost 1-0. Sabathia went 8 1/3 innings before allowing a 1-out 4-pitch walk to Russ Adams and being pulled for closer David Riske who got a flyout and a groundout to end the game for his 7th save of the season. Sabathia improved to 5-1 on the season and Bush took his second 1-0 loss of the season falling to 4-3. Run support has been a problem for Bush all season and despite his gaudy numbers (56.1 innings pitched, 38 H, OBA .189, 0.80 WHIP, 2.08 ERA, 7 BB, 43 SO); he has just a 4-3 record in 8 starts. An encouraging thing to note about the game tonight is that no Jays batter struck out for the 1st time all season as the team is very high in strikeouts. The loss ended the Jays 3-game winning streak. Notes: Following an off-day, the Jays head to Minnesota for a 3-game set against the Twins. Right: Justin Morneau hits a solo HR to break up the no-hit bid by Josh Towers in the 5th. 05/16/05 -- The Jays got to Joe Mays early as they had 4 straight hits in the 2nd inning, including 2 doubles to go ahead 2-0. Corey Koskie also reached on an error in the inning but was stranded. The most mysterious play of the game came in the 4th inning where Gregg Zaun belted a 1-0 offering from Joe Mays out for a solo home run but for some reason the official scorer must've been napping because after the home run the ball fell back on to the field and was misplayed by Lew Ford and he ruled it an error. Although Zaun scored to make it 3-0 it was ruled as a non-hit and an error to Ford. Josh Towers was throwing a perfect game until the bottom of the 5th where he missed on the first two pitches to Justin Morneau and fell behind 2-0, he then serve up a fastball middle-in and Morneau belted it out for a solo home run to make it 3-1. Towers would then settle down and allow just 2 more hits before leaving after 7 innings. He allowed just 3 hits, a run, walked no one and struck out 7 in the outing. Justin Speier, Scott Schoeneweis and Miguel Batista then nailed down Basista's 10th save of the season. Batista actually gave up a lead-off single to Torii Hunter in the 9th but stranded him. Towers would get the win and improve to 4-2; Mays got the loss and fell to 6-1 on the season. He went 7 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits while walking no one and striking out 8 (really 7 hits and 3 earned runs). "I'm really upset on that call where I hit a home run and the ****in' official scorer fell asleep and ruled it an error. We plan to file a formal report to Major League Baseball on that call and hopefully get it overturned. Right: Torii Hunter looks up as Koskie's 2nd 2-run HR of the game clears the wall in CF. 05/17/05 -- Corey Koskie was the hero tonight for the Jays going 4-for-4 with a 2 home runs (9) and 4 RBI. He was replaced defensively in the 8th. Koskie was just a triple shy of the cycle. Shea Hillenbrand also contributed with a 2-run double in the 6th in the 6-3 victory. Gustavo Chacin was injured on a comebacker to the mound in the 4th inning and suffered a fractured nose. He is not expected to miss his next scheduled start. For the Twins, Matt Lecroy and Jason Bartlett each had solo homers and Michael Cuddyer contributed with an RBI-double in the loss. Chacin went 4 innings allowing a run on a hit (the Lecroy home run) but didn't stay in long enough to qualify for the win due to injury. Pete Walker (1-1) got the win in 2 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed a run on 4 hits, walked no one and struck out 2 batters. Vinnie Chulk allowed his first run of the season, breaking a 16 2/3 innings scoreless streak to start the season in 1 1/3 innings of work. He allowed just a hit, a solo home run to Jason Bartlett, walked no one and struck out no one. Miguel Batista picked up his 11th save in a scoreless inning of work allowing no hits, no walks and struck out 2 batters. Kyle Lohse got the loss (2-2) in 6 2/3 innings of work. He allowed 6 runs (all earned) on 11 hits, walked 2 batters and struck out 5. Both walks were intentional. "It's just one of those games where you see the ball really well and hit it hard every time and it drops. What also helped is my familiarity with the pitching staff after playing with them for several years before coming to Toronto.", said Koskie. Outlook: With the series won, the Jays have a good chance of a sweep tomorrow with Roy Halladay on the hill against Carlos Silva. Both pitchers have an identical 4-2 record but Halladay has the edge in all other categories including innings pitched (56), ERA (1.45) and strikeouts (41). Silva had also made one more start than Halladay. He scattered just 5 hits over the game and walked no one while striking 6, including 3 strikeouts of Bret Boone. Reed Johnson then drove him in with sac-fly to right-fielder Lew Ford to give the Jays a 3-0 edge which was more than enough for Halladay. Halladay improves to 5-2 with the win; Carlos Silva fell to 4-3. Silva's only mistake was in the 8th where he gave up all 3 runs on just 3 hits. He allowed 5 hits in total over 9 innings, walked a batter and struck out 4. Notes: The Jays experimented with switching Reed Johnson and Frank Catalanotto in the lineup to try to spark them but neither recorded a hit in today's contest, although, Johnson did have a sac-fly. Alex Rios will likely get a start in tomorrow's contest against the Washington Nationals, probably in right-field with Catalanotto being the DH. Corey Koskie had a single in his first plate appearance to make it 5 consecutive at-bats with a hit but went 0 for his next 3 at-bats in the game. "We did all the little things tonight. Great pitching from Halladay, great defense, a sac-bunt, a sac-fly and timely hitting. All those things are what you need to win in this league.", said John Gibbons. Right: Junior Spivey hits a single to bust up Ted Lilly's no hit bid with 2 out in the 9th. 05/20/05 -- The Jays got on the board off Ryan Drese in the 6th as Russ Adams scored after a lead-off double on a Reed Johnson single. Corey Koskie then followed one batter later with a 2-run homer (10) to drive in Johnson to give the Jays a 3-0 lead. Ted Lilly was in a zone as he was throwing up a no-hitter, but unable to get a perfect game as he walked a couple guys leading into the 9th inning. He got Termel Sledge to ground out and then Brad Wilkerson struck out to set up the pivotal 27th out. Lilly got Jose Guillen to ground out to Shortstop Russ Adams who seemed a little nervous and overthrew firstbase to allow Guillen to reach 2nd on the error. Lilly seemed to get rattled and then gave up a single to Junior Spivey to open the flood gates. Guillen held at third as the single was shallow and respected Alex Rios' arm. Jose Vidro then drove him in with a double and the next batter followed with a single to make it 3-2. John Gibbons then pulled Lilly in favor of closer Miguel Batista who promptly gave up a game-tying single but then struck out the next batter to force extra innings. Orlando Hudson smacked a 2-out single up the middle for the Jays in the 10th but was caught stealing 2nd base. Jason Frasor was forced to relieve Batista as Hudson was caught stealing with a pinch hitter (Eric Hinske) at the plate. In the bottom of the frame, Frasor struck out the first batter he faced but then gave up a single and then a 2-run home run to Jose Guillen. "I was so close to throwing that no-hitter and I even got the ground ball to end it. It's a shame Russ threw that ball away. I couldn't keep my emotions in check after that and was missing location, prompting Gibby to pull me.", said Ted Lilly. "I just overthrew that ball. It was a routine grounder and I didn't need to rush the throw but it kind of slipped out of my hand when I was throwing and I overthrew Shea there.", said Russ Adams. Right: Reed Johnson touches the plate after a two-run HR in the eighth off Tony Armas Jr. 05/21/05 -- The Jays got off to a good start in the first inning with a one out solo HR from Frank Catalanotto (3) to go ahead 1-0. The lead was short lived as the Washington Nationals scored a run to tie after a walk and two straight singles. The Jays quickly answered back in the bottom half as Orlando Hudson led-off the inning with a double and scored on a Gregg Zaun RBI-single to go ahead 2-1. Hudson pulled his hamstring pulling up into second base on the double and left the game. He was replaced by Aaron Hill in the field. After four scoreless innings from Dave Bush following the one run first, the Jays blew the game wide-open in the top of the sixth and chased John Patterson. A lead-off double by Vernon Wells got it all started. The Nationals then opted to walk Corey Koskie to face the light-hitting Eric Hinske. It was a wrong decision as Hinske hit a single through the hole between first and second base to score Wells. Reed Johnson then drove in Hinske and Koskie with an RBI-double to make it 5-1. Frank Robinson opted to go with Antonio Osuna to face Aaron Hill who singled to plate Johnson. Osuna would finish the inning though and go another scoreless inning. Tony Armas Jr. came in to pitch the eighth. He gave up a single to Eric Hinske and then a two-run HR (1) to Reed Johnson, who had four RBI in the game, as the Jays won easily 8-1. Dave Bush got the win (5-3), going six innings. He allowed just a run on four hits, walked three batters and struck out four. John Patterson got the loss (2-2). He went five and one-third innings allowing six runs on eight hits, walked a batter and struck out five. "I was just getting hits today. Lately, I've been lining out and striking out a lot but today, one of them landed and rolled to the wall for a double and I got my first homer of the season.", said Reed Johnson. Outlook: The Jays will send Josh Towers (4-2) to the hill in the rubber match of the series against Zach Day (4-3) before heading back to Toronto for a 3-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Injury note: 2B Orlando Hudson left the game with a pulled hamstring after hitting a double and is expected to miss the next 14 games. He was promptly placed on the 15-day DL and OF Gabe Gross was recalled from AAA Syracuse for his second stint with the big club. In the second, he wasn't so fortunate. Alex Rios hit a lead-off double to right-center and was quickly plated on an RBI double by Shea Hillenbrand. He would later score on an RBI-single from Reed Johnson after a bloop single by Russ Adams advanced him to 3rd. The Jays would leave the inning with just a 2-0 lead after both Adams and Johnson were stranded. In the 4th, the Boston Red Sox got both those runs back on back-to-back solo jacks by Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz to tie the game. The Jays quickly got those runs back as Gregg Zaun and Russ Adams each went back-to-back with solo HR's of their own to go back up 4-2. Gregg Zaun would add another RBI on a single that scored Alex Rios from third after he reached on an error by Manny Ramirez in the 6th. Gustavo Chacin (4-4) got the win going 7 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked no one and struck out 5. The Jays bullpen shut the door from there and Miguel Batista picked up his 13th save with some adversity. He allowed both David Ortiz and Trot Nixon to reach base with singles to lead-off the inning but managed to strand them after a strikeout of Kevin Millar and a double-play off the bat of Alex Cora to end it. Bronson Arroyo got the loss for the Red Sox (4-2) allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 12 hits while walking no one and striking out 5. With the win, the Jays are now in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the AL East with Boston and the New York Yankees. All 3 teams have an identical record of 26-19. The Jays will send Roy Halladay (5-2) and Ted Lilly (3-2) to the mound in the final 2 games of the series against the Red Sox. Right: Schilling hurls the final pitch of the game. 05/25/05 -- The game looked like an all out pitcher's duel for most of the contest as Roy Halladay and Curt Schilling seemed to match each other inning for inning, strikeout for strikeout. However, the Red Sox got the best of Roy Halladay in the 8th inning. A lead-off single by Kevin Millar sparked a rally. After a walk, Johnny Damon hit a single up the middle, scoring Millar for the first run of the game. Halladay's control seemed lost for the whole inning as he then surrendered a 2-run single to Edgar Renteria to make it 3-0 in favor of Boston before being pulled for Jason Frasor who struck out both David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez to end the inning. Justin Speier then pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th. However, the Jays had no answer to Curt Schilling as he struck out Vernon Wells and Corey Koskie for his 10th and 11th K's of the game and then got pinch hitter Frank Catalanotto to ground out to end the game. Roy Halladay got the loss falling to 5-3 while Schilling got the win and improved to 7-2. Schilling pitched a complete game shutout allowing just 7 hits in the contest.
