Game Crashes

This may be a simple question, but do you need to change the 04 Face in MVPedit to YES when the photo says that it is an 04 or 04 style? If I failed to do so would that make my game crash?

My game has been crashing ever since I have added FACES. I backed everything up like the authors of the various mods suggested. The Faces seem to load just fine in that I can see them in the MVPedit window. I have been very careful not to use duplicate FACE numbers.

When the game began to crash I reverted everything back to square one and tested each mod to see if i could discover the problem. It seems that FACES are the problem. Just changing the FACE number but not actually loading the FACE into the big.mod seems to be enough to make it crash.

I am using:

Real Mania 3.7

Total Audio 2005 0.4

Total Portraits

FACES by various authors

Having a face number assigned for a face that does not exist will definitely cause the game to crash.

I'm not an expert with faces, but I've read that if the faces are not properly compressed in the models.big file that this could also cause the game to crash. I don't know all the details about this, but I figured I'd pass it along.

I appreciate your input. However, I have tried and retried everything and yet still the game crashes when I add faces. I have used the installer provided by the many face mod authors. They all appear to have worked when I look in the window in the MVPeditor but the game still crashes when I play a game that these faces will appear in. i'm stumped!

Have you tried adding one face at a time and testing in between each one that you add? You may find that there is one particular face that is causing the crash after it is installed.

You must keep the models.big file checked for "read only" when you are not installing a cyber face.......it is still a mystery as to why files become uncompressed, but keeping that file unwritable will keep that from happen......also, big schmooz, has stated that he is now using eazip, to compress files....he has had success with this, search for his threads and you should find some solutions for your problems

my guess is the game uncompresses them to use them, then sometimes they don't get recompressed? Also many files work uncompressed anyway.

the uniforms will indeed work uncompressed (though I like them compressed because it let's me have a smaller file.) However cyberfaces that are uncompressed will not only not function in the game, they will in fact cause the game to crash.

I too also had a face mod problem, but I solved it by importing the faces into my Models.big file by using a .bat file. My game kept on crashing before by installing faces with Biggui but know it does not crash because now I install faces with .bat files. You should try my method and it might work. :wtg:

That method works because the installation compresses the files. However you come to an impasse when you have 3,000 files in the models.big. Then using a batch file to insert the files will no longer work. (due to gfxpak no longer fuctioning, you will get an error that says gfxpak has to close.) I currently have 3,827 files in the models.big.
