JoltinJoeCarter
95% of the people here who ask questions politely and without calling out the forums and 2 of our respected and helpful members get thier answers in at least a couple of days yea exactly, and a lot of the times within hours of the post. there's nothing wrong with these forums and if u thought that there was, you coulda PM one the admins or something if you had a suggestion. Kriegz
Also, riker should have read the thread titled 'Please read this before posting a new topic'! There MarkB posted rule 3... 3. Search the forum to make sure the information you are about to post hasn't been posted already. It's also a good idea to make sure it hasn't been posted recently by having a look through the other threads on the first page of this forum. .... Now I am willing to bet the "How do you load a mbe file?" question has been answered at least 50 times, and thats just this year
mooseknucks
Riker, I've had the same problem too. It shard to find things on the search function no matter how detailed you make it. People are going to be nasty to you some times. If you have a problem with searching try going to an admin or something cause this will start a fight. Lets face it, some people think their above everyone else. :eew: IDEA: Maybe Trues or Y4L, can delete older posts, or filter posts out that havent been answered in ten days or something. That would contribute to frustrated searchers like riker, me and the rest of the people on this board. Trues, Y4L, any chance of this happening? EDIT: O yea and just some commen sense. Don't use smart *** remarks when someone is trying to find something. Wouldn't it just be easier to help the person then to annoy them. People who don't use their brains are the people who dont even know they are starting a confrentation. Why should people attend to other people who are too lazy to do a search. If someone posted this example, it would be different ... Hey I did a search for something I'm not sure about, I manually searched and rifled through the posts that came up and I couldn't find an answer. I was wondering if someone could help me. But that never happens. People think everyone has to tend to them because they don't know how to use the search function. Kids come on here and demand answers and that's why they get the "smartass" remarks, because their rude and demanding. And why are you trying to defend someone? Don't you know you don't have a leg to stand on? Riker: You're in the wrong, no matter what these people say. In the sight of the administration and the "trusted" members, you're wrong. You're trying to rip into this site and find answers? It doesn't work that way buddy. With an attitude like that, you're never going to find or get what you want. Learn some manners and learn to be polite and maybe, just maybe, someone could get past your horrible first impressions.
Spivey11
Here's what I do to help out narrowing down the number of results that I get when I search for a certain topic (just put 'and' in between every word that you want to search for): install and new and mbe. and file. When I did that, I got 28 matches that had those four words together in a topic.
Hollywood70
Interesting topic. I have found this forum to be VERY helpful, but at the saem time, I've seen an unusual amount of hostility towards people who don't search.. That's the part I don't understand. Rather than be hostile, why not just ignore them? If it's against the forum policy, so be it. But why take the time to call someone lazy, or any variation of that? Rather than take it personally, why not just shrug your shoulders and move on to the next post?
Snash13
Riker, flat out. If you had come on here and asked for help politly you probably would have got some help. But not only are you not going to get help now but Im sure people are going to think alot less of you from now on. If you have a problem with something, PM a admin about itPeople who don't use their brains are the people who dont even know they are starting a confrentation. Now I wonder who that describes..... No problem. Not my fault you can't use your head. :lmao:

MarkB
If you learned how to use the search feature CORRECTLY as opposed to simply bashing words into the search field and hoping for the best, I can personally guarantee you that at least 9 times out of 10, if the question has been asked and answered, you will find it using the search function. It's not rocket science, people, it's a server-based search engine that does what it's told. Garbage in, garbage out.
krawhitham
Not even close. Did you read my WHOLE post? are you selecting the "Search for all terms" option dumbass default is "Search for any terms or use query as entered" which would result in 800 hits

mastasports1
Interesting topic. I have found this forum to be VERY helpful, but at the saem time, I've seen an unusual amount of hostility towards people who don't search.. That's the part I don't understand. Rather than be hostile, why not just ignore them? If it's against the forum policy, so be it. But why take the time to call someone lazy, or any variation of that? Rather than take it personally, why not just shrug your shoulders and move on to the next post? Because if we ignore them, all they will do is keep posting over and over and over, ranting like this, asking why people can't help in these forums, and maybe after a matter of 5 minutes the kids will throw a ****-fit. And when they post over and over, that's spamming, (against the rules) so admins have to lock the topic. Once that happens, another thread is created, more spam shows up, and all these locked topics flood and gag the forum. Finally, that member will reach three strikes with their now-hostile behavior, get banned, create a second account, come back and create a rant like this, and get banned for many more months. So, we can't ignore them. If we just tell them what to do kindly, they'll get used to it and NEVER use the search button again. It's like training a dog. If we are hostile, sometimes we'll bang them into shape, but sometimes they'll create things like this! Admins have it tough here. Nobody can win. That's why we just want to use the search button, use a little effort in searcing manually, or check the FAQs.
punishher
hmm.i'm sorta new, when i started out the search button indeed turned me off.i went to the forums, asked politely and waited for answers. then like abt 2 weeks back i sorta played arnd with the search button and found out that you could easily reduce the number of searches turnin up to be more precise. don't come here and start CYAO.pls. mooseknucks
 You're kidding! Precision works?! Since when ... ?! Jesus. Like my Mark said, it's not rocket science, or brain surgery, or anything else that requires an ounce of effort. The search feature "turns you off"? It doesn't matter, you won't get your answers. Either no one will answer, or someone will say do a search for it. I still can't beleive anyone actually defended this asshole. His break out moment is calling out the board. Stupid people. :wall:

spitoon
I think people simply get tired of answering the same questions over and over again...seriously, how many times has the "I can't get the patch to work" question been asked? 100, 200?? I'll generally answer the question (or link to it), and then suggest that the person try the search feature next time... This can be a very helpful place if your questions are worded properly. Almost all the answers are here in some form.
Hollywood70
Good points... Personally, my method is to browse the forum every day or two, and then I get a feel for what's been discussed... Makes it easier to search for things if you have a vague memory of seeing them before. As far as forum etiquitte goes, I think it's a lot like the old computer saying.. "Garbage in, Garbage out".. You get back what you put in. Generosity is often returned for kindness.

No matter how inane the question, how badly worded, or how many times it has been asked previously, he posts an answer in, I'd guess, 90% of the cases. Spitoon, I salute you. carter
Just remember everyone that if you have questions about a particular mod, the best way to get answers may be to send a PM to the mod creator. The creator will be more inclined to help because he/she wants their work to work.
