kicko
anyone read this, take two was responsible not modders so why they still looking at them for change? http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,682...tw=wn_tophead_1
five
I'd like to get some feedback from everyone on this topic. What happens next? I say that the modders will be hurt the worst in the long run.
mastasports1
Take Two can do nothing about us. Everything is legal here. The lawsuits will be knocked down one-by-one since none are legit. All Take Two is doing here is scrambling to improve their impression in the face of the government. You won't see EA doing much about this since they endorse game modification to a point of inviting the leaders of mod websites ('community leaders') to their studios for sneak peaks. Another example can be found in EA sending out early copies of NCAA to community leaders and roster editors for they can have correct rosters out for the public release. In fact, the former director of NBA Live Series Center (NBA-Live.com) is now a producer of the game itself. EA Canada (remember downloading music in Canada is legal...but that's irrelevant) creates both NBA Live and MVP. As we know, both of these games are heavily modable. EA/Tiburon in Florida creates Madden, which is not nearly as editable (until around now when we are finally starting to crack their code)
spitoon
I don't know about this...I think we are comparing apples to oranges here...the sexual content was in the game, accessible via a mod, a bad move by Take Two IMO. We are adding our own which means that the game maker has no control over it, I think the law would look at them differently. Now I suppose someone could make 'uniforms' that made the players look naked, but it would be difficult to simulate a sex act in a baseball game... The downside for us may be that the government will simply legislate that all games be made 'unmoddable'...obviously some of it would eventually be cracked, but it would make it much more difficult. biker_jim_uk
IMO it'll make companies look at making their games much harder to mod incase someone make a nude patch or similar? I can't believe a hidden sex game upsets people in a game that includes some of the worst language I have heard in a game, and a game that requires you to take part in drive by shootings, revenge killings, and to beat people to death with baseball bats, yet this is the acceptable part? Whereas a consensual sex scene between adults is considered horrific!!! I really despair at times
Kriegz
I hope that doesn't affect the future of mods, but I would really put the blame on Take 2 because they actually put the scene in the game, the dutch kid just cracked the code to make it visible, plus it doesn't really compare to baseball, because you can't really put in porn other than on the loading screens. Its a shame because I doubt they are going to be as friendly with the code as EA was
spitoon
True Jim, I haven't seen the game but can't you also shoot police officers in the face? I'd suggest to you that is much worse than an animated sex scene.
biker_jim_uk
you can shoot them in the face, shoot limbs off people, beat prostitutes to death etc. But I love it and think it's what it is....a game, but I'd much rather kids were influenced by sexlove than war! Having said that it already had a 17 rating anyway so kids shouldn't be playing it?? It's this bizarre US morality I just don't understand. Back to the point, it will be the modders who get hurt as, despite what we want to believe about our importance to the game world, we are a small minority who's dissatisfaction won't hurt game sales in any way at all IMO
spitoon
Unfortunately you are 100% right there...besides, most modding is done on PC titles which make up a small part of the market anyways.
Kccitystar
I honestly believe that this lawsuit is going to go to modders who request that people pay them in order to get a specific modification for the game. It's pure BS, IMO. All the mods I created are freeware and people donate when they want to. I never charge anybody anything and neither should any of you. :wtg:
biker_jim_uk
the guy who made the hot coffee didn't charge! And I'm not concerned about being sued, it'll be the makers that make it so hard to mod as to be not worth it IMO. I used to make stuff for Tiger Woods PC games: 2002 you dropped a file into the folder, 2003 we needed an import utility built, that worked for 2k4 too, then by 2005 they'd packed it into a format that we can't export! This is what I think will start to happen, they'll change compression algorithms every version, unlike most EA stuff which can be opened by a 4+ year old utility
UncleMo
you dirty punk, you charged me 30 bucks! i want my money back KC! :lmao: Yo, this is all a political joke for politicians to get famous off of standing up for family values. What a freaking joke.
choppinnecks
They have been trying to get GTA pulled off of the shelves since Rockstar introduced GTA 3. To me this is just another way for the people who hate this game (parents) and believe that this game turns children into raging psycopaths to be taken off of the market. I'm sure most of you know the controversy surrounding GTA. I also feel that this in no way will effect games like MVP, Madden or any realistic sports title because all of you guys put in countless hours of work just to make these games better. There is nothing pornographic about these games and all Take Two or EA would have to do to realize that is a little research into sites like this one. Maybe I'm way off base but I don't see this effecting you guys at all in the long run.

acpython1
This story is nothing new. Any time a mod comes out that has anything remotely to do with sex, it is immediately flagged, and plastered over the news. The nude mod for Tomb Raider or the Sims, for example. These were big news when they came out. And yet after the first Mortal Kombat game came out, there was a huge amount of controversy surrounding the violence of the game. By the time the second one came out, nobody cared enough. But if someone released a Game Genie code that made Sonya Blade naked, there would have been a media storm. Politicians don't seem to care about violence, just sex. God forbid children (who shouldn't even be playing the game in the first place) get to have virtual, pixelated sex after a hard day of mass slaughtering police, mobsters and innocent civilians. As for whether that affects MVPMods? I doubt it. The mods that are posted here don't make the game any more violent, any raunchier, or make the players naked (eww). In the article, the ESRB seems to speak out against mods that change the rating of the game, which none of these would do. The only legal action I can see happening (it's a longshot) is if the MLBPA sues for us putting non-MLBPA players into a licensed product, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. biker_jim_uk
Yeh, Manic Miner and Atic Atac were like bottled Crack for a 12 year old back in the day :hic:
Kccitystar
Now when I think about it, this whole thing is just BS. Basically it says Take two had left the sex stuff part of their unused code in the game. Unfortunately it was exploited by a programmer who mods GTA: SA, so who's to blame, T2 or the modder? GTFO with that Adults Only rating. I wish I had more hands...so I could give that opinion, 4 thumbs down. :lmao:
biker_jim_uk
but it had a Mature rating before! Just means that 17yr olds could go off the rails but 18s are ok And IMO the blame is moot, it's RockstarTake 2 who could be out of pocket (however the furore over this will probably result in even more sales ) and so more producers will start locking stuff down. Strange though that the same fuss wasn't made about KOTR 2's missing end levels that some guy found! Just wish someone on here could find where the uniform style indicators are? Thought I'd found them last night but hadn't :wall: and I love this guy http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c....=ticket_to_hell be careful though there is pixellated nudity you young Americans should steer clear of :wtg:
Deathnotronic
Yup. I'm strictly offended by animated sex scenes in games. It not only corrupts minors, but it is also un-moral...What the hell am I talking about? This is the biggest bunch of BS I have ever seen or heard of...Wow...Cartoon sex? Who the hell cares? The only people that should be offended by this crap is the parents who make their kids live their lives as nerds and would masturbate to whatever this sex scene is, just like this kid at my old college who got caught masturbating to that DOA: Volley Ball game...It's pathetic and they are stupid if they start making their games "unmoddable" since it was their own fault for leaving that piece of code in the game when they could have easily removed it...I guess that's what happens when your staff is full of idiots who think no one is smarter than them...Most of the Take 2 games have sucked and most likely will continue to suck... :lmao:
