jpinard
Right now it's mostly gobbly gook in NOtepad and Ultraedit. I read Rod-Data's tutorial on editing this file but he failed to mention what program one must use to edit it, and if any kind of file conversation must take place. Thanks for the help! jpinard
But how do I get it from the .big into the .txt format? Just change the file extensions? <--- that seems too easy
silan72
Get biggui from download section. Open datafile.big with it and scroll to datafile.txt and hit export. Put into data directory.
jpinard
I'm looking through utilities and am not finding "biggui".
jpinard
OK, found it from another site. Thanks!
spitoon
You can extract the stock datafile.txt out of the datafile.big using a number of different methods; gfxpak, bigGUI, EAGraph...then you need to uncompress it, the MVP 2005 compression utility is best. You can then edit it, using wordpad, or TextPad...Notepad has a bit of a hard time handling it because it's fairly large. Then you must recompress it (MVP 2005 comp utility again). You don't need to repack it into the datafile.big, just put it in the /data folder (NOT /data/datafile) and the game will recognize it.
jpinard
Super, thanks a ton Spitoon. Editing this file is a lot more complicated than I'd thought. But at least I can go in and cmpaore differing edits with Ultraedit now. THanks!
spitoon
It can be a bit overwhelming...just poke through and you'll see that there are really only a few sections that pertain to actual game play...the majority of it refers to animation details and is something that really doesn't need to be messed with... I'm not sure what Ultraedit does but it sound like it's similar to CompareIt?? Opening two different .txt files and comparing them on the same screen, highlighting the differences?? Have fun ;)
