Directional slides working improperly

Hi there. I was told about this site and thought that someone here might have an idea to my issue with MVP 2005 right now. I have been having issues with my Saitek 2500 rumble gamepad. The sildes do not seem to be working correctly.

For example, I have been testing out stealing home through the game's scenario editor. Only through pulling the right thumb stick down instead of pushing it up like it should be makes my baserunner railroad the catcher. If I move it straight up, he'll just try to slide feet first. If I try to steal second and perform a head first slide to the left of the bag by pushing the thumbsitck up and left, the runner will just slide hands first going straight in.

Overall it's nothing like it should be when it comes to sliding. The rest of the controls are fine, but the only way it seems that I can get a good chance at a steal is if I am playing the minors where errors are more likely to be done by the catcher.

I did a search on the forums yesterday and did not find any topics on this, so I hope someone has an idea whats wrong, becase I love snaggin' bags on slow pitchers and poor catchers. :)

Thanks for the quick response Fastflink. I did take a look at the configuration of my controller in MVP, but I did not see any way to configure my right thumb stick. It just had all the other controls except that one in the list under offensive and defensive controls.

mine is the same way and I have the same controller.. I just got used to it.. I slide left normally to do a normal slide.. down does a head-first slide or can railroad catcher

You're welcome, then try recallibrating or reinstalling your gamepad.

Well, I will download the latest drivers off of the controlers website and see if that helps out. Since cybernetic seems to have the same problem as me, then it's not looking too good. :(

In that case I think I will just get myself another inexpensive gamepad that looks/feels similar to this one if the drivers and reconfig doesn't help me out.

All that the guy had to do was change a couple of entries within one file...It's a pity that he chose to go out instead and purchase one of the flimsiest controllers on the market. What a shame..

For future reference, to those with a Saitek controller with its drivers installed...

These entries must replace the originals within the 'controller.cfg' file for any entries named "Cyborg" or "Saitek":

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to thank KerryW if you still check the site for solving my saitek controller problem. Its frustrated me for 3 straight games, cost me some runners on base. Thanks.

LOL this IS an old thread. I remember when it was first posted. This fix has been well known & is in fact posted in other threads too. A shame as KerryW said that TomtheBitx got a whole new controller when this fix was so easy to accomplish. I too have a Saitek p2500 & I used this fix already I believe on MVP 04.

haha, funny stuff. i couldnt take the screwed up buttons anymore after getting all confused on my slides.... so i started searching the threads for help... this was the 1st one that turned up helpful.... at least i searched, instead of making a new thread myself right.

mvp 04 was a game with some bugs in it... at least for ps2... man. cpu pitchers being pulled out of games in the 4th inning of 1-0 games. ridiculous.

Hi friends. Could you help me? I don't know how to slide head first. I tried everything but still I can use only one type of slide. I play MVP 05 on my PC on keyboard. Please, write me if you know it. ... Thanks a lot!!!

you hold right shift and press up on the numpad for head first slides. right shift and down for feet first slides. u can also do up and left/right, down and left/right.

hmm...i cant find anywhere in my controller.cfg where the right shift is used, but it works for me in the game. it might have been in the manual, not sure. can anyone else explain why it works for me and not for hafi27? are you sure u held the right shift while pressing a direction on the numpad? this combination also works for dives and slides in the field, so try it while you're fielding to see if it works at all

Maybe if you post what your controller.cfg file looks like, somebody may be able to help. It is located in your mvp folder that is in your my documents folder. You can open it up with notepad or wordpad.
